He literally did three things my former skill coach (who play 800+ NHL Games) told me never to do. You don’t take one hand off while stickhandling as it’s easy to strip, using your first step as a crossover is a wasted stride and way too much lateral movement.
Size and meanness. Most kids that make triple aaa (except the real special talents) have borderline evil fathers that teach them to be mean all the time.
What makes the difference between a AA to a AAA has little to do with lateral speed movements or a harder shot or even silky mitts. The BIG difference is hockey I.Q. Being able to read the play before it happens. Predict where the opponent will move, shoot the puck or pass. Being able to have a precise shot. AKA bar downs, picking the corners. Setting passes up for 1 timers for your team mates. Choosing which team mates has a better chance to score or outlet for a break away. Hockey I.Q will take you farther than any crazy moves this guy is doing down the ice. I played with a teammate at the age of 11 and his I.Q was probably around a 19 year old's level. He wasn't the fastest, didn't have the hardest shot but he lead the entire league in goals and assists. Years later went on to play in the NHL.
I made a AAA travel team when I became old enough for peewee full contact but when they told my dad how much a season cost to play and travel I stayed in AA. Plus I knew most of my teammates and we’ve been playing together forever so we were a strong team and beat AAA teams in tournaments.

i played aa hockey in northern california most of my life and the main difference between aa and aaa is money. probably 80% of my aa team was better than our aaa team. we even went back to back at states and the aaa squad didn’t even rank in the top 20.
Comment section doesn’t get it. He’s coaching kids. Kids need to see something to understand it. Obviously that’s not how anyones gonna skate in a game, but the kids see that and understand what’s being taught. Great coaching here
Lol you must have never played at a high level to think this is good coaching. You think making more useless cross overs will get kids to the next level. I played my entire career in AAA and was and OHL prospect. This is not good coaching this is having a ego and being upset you never played more than AAA. Absolutely terrible advice.
I am great on skates. Live in the U.K though so no real sport opportunities really.
