I absolutely love your scope of literature! Absolutely love it!
I am opening up my preferences as well. One day the love of reading just snapped back into place for me and I realised that in my 20’s all I enjoyed reading was romance. So I said to self let’s do black romance this time, the that took me to African American authors. (You’ve brought me to Toni Morrison, I’ve bought six of her books so far) That thought then took me to “but wait, I am from the Caribbean and I don’t know any of our classics” so now I have been going down the rabbit while of curating my Caribbean author collection. Ah, but it did not stop there because even more specifically, I and from the Turks and Caicos, so I’ve been researching books from TCI authors which aren’t that many. This realisation then reminded me of my desires to be an author (just ONE book, one book and I can die happy 😆).
I say all of this to say thank you, because you’ve help to bring me back to a place I had lost.
I will be slowly adding other types of literature to my little library. I will start with ‘The idiot’.
Reading does make you feel smarter and in fact make you know that you are that. Bitch! 😂

aww you are so welcome! your comments always make my day. Our back and forwards are one reason why I continue to make videos and upload, it's really all that matters, the building of community, that is. As you continue on your journey with researching TCI authors do let me know what you stubble upon. Also, as you work through Toni Morrison, any video I made regarding her books, feel free to find those and we can have conversation there!

Hey Diamond! I enjoyed the video. The way you expressed your thoughts on the books, I found you were eloquent and concise. I am curious to read some of the books you mentioned, but I am going to wait to reduce my TBR first! lol. I look forward to your next video.☺

Oh I just love hanging out with you! Excellent video. Love your whole approach to reading and you talk about books I've never heard of but I watch because you explain things so well. It's great to hear about the wide spectrum of books you read rather than all the currently popular ones that a lot of the big channels are talking about. I have definitely added a fair amount of books to my list thanks to you haha! Actually I wanted to ask you about Circe... Considering it has characters from The Odyssey should I read that first to get all the connections and enjoy the Circe story more? I recently spoke about getting Circe out at the library in my most recent video, but haven't gotten to it yet. And now seeing your video I'm considering waiting.

And I love that you’re here!! Thank you for watching! I feel that you would be ok stepping into Circe without having read the Odyssey for sure. It’s very accessible tbh and what will mainly happen is, you’ll want to read the Odyssey when you done haha. The interesting thing about Circe or should I say Madeline Miller is that she takes the narrative of the Odyssey and writes in a way that shows the humility of the characters and they become more relatable. Let me know if you pick it up and how you feel about it.

You are right about Nabokov in my view, I gave him numerous tries including that one ☝️ and certainly "Lolita" and have never understood where the "genius" is supposed to be! You already know the great significance of Dostoyevsky 👍 despite his thing about long and even partially boring books (try his shorter "The Double," "A Disgraceful Affair" and "The Village of Stepanchikovo" when you get a chance). You are right in those days they published long books in segments in periodicals before they became books 👍 I just finished the 1948 John Williams novel "Nothing But the Night" and haven't decided what I think of it yet, though that alone says that it was good enough to have me pondering about it

I wouldn't say Pinin was bad, it just lacked something that didn't tempt me to go ahead and finish, I have, however, started it back up and am enjoying it to say the least. I will add those Dostoyevsky's to my tbr for sure thanks for the recs.

Thank you for the shout out! 😭❤️🥰 I’m so glad you finally read Annihilation! I have so many thoughts! Eeeeee!
Okay, first, the concept of “fear”. I think the way vandermeer nurtured that feeling while also never quite showing us anything was so ingenious. This “fear” was curated with a slow descent, or a strange noise, and essentially around an unknown. I was so scared of what was always just out of reach. Like I existed on the cusp of actual terror and the anxiety before it-which was so interesting to feel the levels of just being scared and the author holding these things out of my actual eye sight. A blindspot.
Okay, my thoughts on “restriction” .yesyesyestetssss. Okay, I want to take that idea further-word dump style: The outside powers that lead to self restriction and self expectation. Another feeling of this unknown. These internal drives having an outside power-an outside “enforcer”. Or oppositely, the outside results from internal pressures. Very chicken and the egg.
Sit on that thought of “restriction” through Authority. This feeling of expectations, being herded, power, influence, internal stressors, etc. A very different way of experiencing “fear” and “unknown”.
Did you think about the intention behind the composition of this expedition? The women? I saw a lot in Reddit boards discussing it.

let me go see about this reddit thread. I totally agree on the concept or aspect of fear. Thoughts on all women on the 12th expedition actually didn't come to mind until reading your thoughts here. Now that you speak of it, my mind is instantly diving into what ideas vandermeer was permeating on when choosing women for this particular expedition. Girl I am reeling right now, I have so much I can say. See! this is why Loooovvvveeee booktube. I saw your video on possibly rereading the series before the next book. LET'S DO IT!!!

You are that B***h!!! LOL. Loved your wrap up. I own The Idiot but haven't gotten to it yet. I'm still working on The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky. You make me want to read some science fiction, Annihilation sounds good too. Great video!

thank you girly! Also, I really think you would like Annihilation. I just watched your wrap up yesterday and loved that your read the dry hear and first love. LOL to the fact that your hated first love, in my short books video I didn't necessarily say it was good lmao, but I totally get why you didn't prefer it. I'm also a Normal People lover, Sally Rooney is one of my favorite authors.

@@jadeddiamonds9983 Yes I have added Annihilation to my list. And I enjoyed Sally Rooney’s writing and would read more from her, I just didn’t like the direction the plot went in Normal People. lol
