For me Wipers are the most important Band of the 80s. First I listened to them while hitchhiking in 1985 and I was so deeply impressed as never before by a band. Thanks to Greg Sage for this nearly unbelievable rock experience over years. Kick ass for all time! 🔥
he is a nice guy. very private. very much into his own thing. i interviewed him for about 6 hours when i was in high school and he told me all kinds of interesting things. hipped me to other old portland punk bands and people. strangely, years later i wound up in a band with Mish from SadoNation and we covered some wipers tunes...
Sounds like you love him a little bit.... and you want to marry him. That's what it sounds like. That you want to be his lover and make little wiper babies. You should just marry him if you love him so much!!!!!!!!!!
I thank god every day for the internet so I can witness actual music. OH god its so blissful .. this day in age where my fruits are spoiling and my hate grows as love.. Its like this everywhere...this empty/full contradiction that sadness gives. Makes you want to shout your vibes out to whoever is listening and make a movement. But nothing moves...
I was really into punk in the UK and loved all the usual suspects. Around 1979 I picked up a compilation of obscure punk and there were a couple of Wipers songs on it - Window Shop For Love was one. My mind was blown, then I heard Peel playing some tracks, then I picked up an import of This Is It and my life was complete 😊. This was near the end of decent punk music in this country - it was all getting a bit cliched and the smart people were inventing the future with post punk shenanigans. Wipers were the step ahead for me - still very punk with its attitude BUT also looking ahead to other things. Still got that original album.
Discovered them - almost two weeks ago omg I’m obsessed. Years ago hole covered “over the Edge” but i didn’t realize it was a cover and a wipers song. Anyways I love “doom town”!!!!! I was born in 1980 if you’re wondering lol
ALL their albums are terrific. I really mean it. I've written about Over the Edge and the great song Romeo on it. I was just reading about the Wipers on another site and their album Follow Blind seemed to get very little respect. It is their most jazzy, spacey album. If you want something other than hard charging garage rock, or however you want to characterize their signature sound, I highly recommend it.
its never too late... hey --- greg, we love you. solo greg with acoustic guitar or.. fuckin accordion is just as weaponized as wipers. thank you for your heartfelt songwriting. just had on sacrifice (for love) today.
The only band in my opinion in the 1990's that could blow nirvana out the water. Yes nirvana was mainstream in 92 and more people would choose that but if I'm taking a time capsule and wanted to see gritty raw rock show wipers would be my bet. Them or dinosaur jr. Nirvana is my favorite band but I'm not blind, wipers were "IT".
People saying music is boring now, change your fucking tune for crying out loud. perhaps if you look beyond the mainstream and the charts you'll find some fucking amazing music that still exist.
Yeah, if you like electronic music and hip hop. or combinations of them. they say that hip hop is the 'new' folk music but I just can't seem to speak or understand its refracted language and nonsense lingo. these artists have nothing new to say which hasn't already been said more eloquently and with more wit in early blues recordings.
Nothin personal evan but if you were born in the time you think you wish you were born,u probably wldnt have seen the wipers.thy wre fairly local in fan base (portland) and their records were hard to find, gig dates even harder.people during this time were saying 'i wish i wasnt born in a time of Bon Jovi and culture club.I wish i ws born in (past year like 1970) so i could see (a band like velvet underground, also obscure while active).point is thres some gems out there evan,u just have to look
@DirdeeD Been listening to Sage and The Wipers for a long time. I've given up trying to pick a favorite song. Any other band I can break it down. Not the Wipers. If I had to "No one Wants An Alien." Check out documentary on Netflix Alien Boy.
Magnesium- Lite Probably is about the character in 'Alien Boy' who happened to be a real person. And, by the way, 'No One Wants An Alien" indeed could be best wipers song ever, along with dozens of other songs ;)
@pantherboy3231 yeah exactly. Greg Sage was part of a do it yourself movement. All of these bands your into are because of a rebellion against music at their time and lack of. I have started to create a band. Where are you at?
@EvanTheKillerWolf Oh, back when this was recorded we had New Kids on the Block and Milli Vanilli, each generation has its chaff that most people listen to, just look for the wheat!
It would be cool to contact Greg. He'd definitely have some *sage advice* to give. THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!! Thanks. It was definitely worth reading wasn't it?

Pixies are up there too
Greg Sage is not only a musical genius he's a fucking force of nature. Long live the Wipers ! 🤘
Sage is a master of tone.
I wish I could learn more about Greg's life... he seems so mysterious
he is a nice guy. very private. very much into his own thing. i interviewed him for about 6 hours when i was in high school and he told me all kinds of interesting things. hipped me to other old portland punk bands and people. strangely, years later i wound up in a band with Mish from SadoNation and we covered some wipers tunes...
Stefany Soares probably had a fucked up childhood like all the rest of the good musicians
Sounds like you love him a little bit.... and you want to marry him. That's what it sounds like. That you want to be his lover and make little wiper babies.
You should just marry him if you love him so much!!!!!!!!!!
He has some good post wipers music♡
@sabbracadabra Ampeg Gemini 1 from 1965 and he had two black Gibson SGs from 1969 with p90s
I have become obsessed with this band. I love how the Wipers connect Hendrix to grunge in a dreamy super powerful way.
You mean black flag didn't do that lol
@@leahflower9924did Black Flag do that?
If so, could you recommend a track or two of theirs that does that?
“Grunge” shet up
Wipers predate grunge by a good bit. Cobain loved them, as he should.
I thank god every day for the internet so I can witness actual music. OH god its so blissful .. this day in age where my fruits are spoiling and my hate grows as love.. But nothing moves...
God I wish I had seen them live...
Ditto.
And here my friends, you see a true genius performing...
This is fucking awesome. Love this band. This is my favorite song by these guys

This is just fantastic! I discovered the Wipers about 2 years ago and it feels like I've been listening to them all my life.
Amazing live version of this great song
Love Greg's music.
True legends! I had seen them 3-4 times in Thessaloniki, Greece. Amazing band!
I fucking love Wipers
the wipers are true giants, in a world of sleepers!!

Lucky guy , I wish I met their music today , check all the lyrics from the three first albums

I was at the Amsterdam Paradiso this night and it blew me away!
Just this one band makes me happy to live in oregon.
And so many more to (galoshe) boot.

Mellowship Slinky Its a weird thing to say on this video considering this was filmed in the 80s, but I agree.

more punk rock emotion than 15,000 emo mall faux punk bands could ever express.
Haha I think the singer of operation ivy stole his look
I feel like it's a short walk from Victor Tsoi to Greg Sage. Both musically and that kind of discontent.
The begin of the grunge!!!!
@DirdeeD Been listening to Sage and The Wipers for a long time. I've given up trying to pick a favorite song. Any other band I can break it down. Not the Wipers. If I had to "No one Wants An Alien." Check out documentary on Netflix Alien Boy.
