This is simply beautiful. A beautiful version by Cory Hart. I was pleasantly surprised. Patti Labelle's version is to die for. Edith Piaf's original version is spectacular and I even love all of the French versions even though I cannot speak a word of French.
Quelle fabuleuse interprétation en anglais de cette chanson mythique d’EDITH PIAF un grand merci et admiration à la chanteuse BRAVO 👏👏💞💞❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥🎶❤️🔥🎵🎶🥰🎶💞🎶💞💓🙏🙏🇫🇷🇫🇷
If one day you should ever disappear Always remember these words If one day we had to say goodbye And our love would fade away and die In my heart you will remain here And I'II sing a hymn to love....(Α+Ε)
To clarify, Corey Hart did not write these lyrics. This is the version that Piaf recorded in English in 1956. It was translated into English by Piaf's protégé Eddie Constantine.
It was definatly better at olympics. Lot of things happened and the song made more sens to her. It was all about her life and her losses. May God give her strenght ❤
The French version are not these words but Edith Piaf wrote an English Version as the French version when translated into English sounds odd. I think this person has done a lovely job of trying to make a very old song sound relavant to day. I think its Beautiful, would make a lovely 1st dance at a Wedding
When we translate a song from one language to another, it is very difficult to translate word by word, line by line, the best way is to translate the general idea of the song which go along with the lyric, nothing else we can do. That why we always say: ''Lost in the translation''. As we all know the song ''MY WAY'' is the translation of the French song ''COMME D'HABITUTE'', if you listen to these 2 songs, you will notify the meaning of thee 2 songs are not the same. Thanks..
When I was stuying languages we were taught to make a "literal (word for word translation)" and then a "liierary" translation with words that expressed the meaning of the original, but able to fit the original music.
Hello @@jaswmclark, What you have learned is just theory, it is only true when you translate an article, a book, a poem, but it is very difficult to apply in music. In music, besides the meaning of the lyrics - it also depends a lot on the melody of the song. . For example, the verb "TO LOVE" is translated into French as "AIMER", two different pronunciations, it is difficult to find the harmony, to fit between these two verbs.
Hum bon je comprends qu'on peut pas traduire mot pour mot, et bien que cette version soit vraiment jolie...l'Hymne à l'Amour a, d'après moi, perdue toute son essence et son sens par le fait qu'elle ait été traduite...En français, je la trouve sublime, magifique...En anglais, elle se compare à toutes les autres bonnes chansons d'amour....je trouve...Mais bon...
Love the song, but the translation is all wrong. It's the right tune, but wrong English lyrics. But, still it's beautiful. FAR prefer the French version.
I just realized you must be mad at french people for bashing you so much for something you didn't write. Sorry for that. But still, the cheesyness that comes out of the english version makes it paintful for us.
Lyrics are SO wrong ! ô.ô Seriously, WTF ? I totally hate this version 'cause it's such far from the original ! I'm french & I speak english quite well, so I can say that it sucks for the lyrics ! v.v For the "refrain" it's something like : " Don't mater If he loves me I don't care of The whole world" Something like that. Nothing about saying "hymn to love" ! --' Edith is the best
there is no soul....pain ,,spirit in the way it is being performed here..There is only Edith Piaf's version that is worth listening to. All other performances of it....is empty air !! Just my humble opinion.
Very different from the original song. Arguably the most important line hasn't been included (Dieu reunit ceux qui s'aiment). I dislike the vocals as well. Lost all of its charm!
Yep it's called plagiarism. No shame at all. And the worst part is most people not understanding the french lyrics believe that this crap (that sound like Bryan Adams) is based on the actual lyrics. The original is nothing like this cheezy rip off. It's actually profound. I call SABOTAGE!
Who is here after Celine Dion's spectacular performance on Paris Olympic? 💖💖💖
Me
I am , it was fantastic.
Me
❤
You already know ❤
I love this interpretation by Corey Hart
Beautiful. All my life I've only known the 60's Brenda Lee version, this was incredible and I'm so thankful I found it.
Me. I can't get enough of this song in French. It's beautiful

It's actually Patty LuPone and it's wonderful!

Corey Hart....❤
Celine Dion....❤️❤️ ...They should sing this together. 😊
Be well Celine... 🙏
My father had a "78" record of this song by Edith Piaf. English on one side, Francais a l'outra.
If one day you should ever disappear
Always remember these words
If one day we had to say goodbye
And our love would fade away and die
In my heart you will remain here
And I'II sing a hymn to love....(Α+Ε)
Amazing!

Such a pretting song

The singer is Corey Hart on this version. Lots of great stuff by him.

Yes....and this versión is Lost in translation from the original....

Hum bon je comprends qu'on peut pas traduire mot pour mot, et bien que cette version soit vraiment jolie...l'Hymne à l'Amour a, d'après moi, perdue toute son essence et son sens par le fait qu'elle ait été traduite...En français, je la trouve sublime, magifique...En anglais, elle se compare à toutes les autres bonnes chansons d'amour....je trouve...Mais bon...
Lovely song..a very remarkable come- back song by Celine Dion at the 2024 Olympics, Paris.
Great song I knew but haven’t heard it yet until the Olympics
❤
jut wondering if anyone has got Mandarin version of this song...
Yes
The old English version is better: if you love me.
But Corey Hart is always great to listen to.
where can i find this?? It is actually the Same music as "If you love me, really love me" by KAy Starr/Brenda Lee
Literally me when I was watching Loki
Original by Edith piaf....
Which is better.
💙💙💙
it really changes all the meaning of the song xd nice though
Really beautiful pop version of this. But it's not the
correct translation of the Piaf version.
Who wrote the lyrics?
This is the version that Piaf sang in English in 1956. It was translated into English by Piaf's protégé Eddie Constantine.
I’m here.
That is so not the original french lyrics holy shit
Love the song, but the translation is all wrong. It's the right tune, but wrong English lyrics. But, still it's beautiful. FAR prefer the French version.
who's the singer ?
Corey Hart
This is just the killing of a great French song - A hamburger hymn to love!
The most beautiful version!❤
Me.
I just realized you must be mad at french people for bashing you so much for something you didn't write. Sorry for that. But still, the cheesyness that comes out of the english version makes it paintful for us.
On est d'accord c'est scandaleux haha
Les gens,
#Lokius
Actually, I should blame Cyndi Lauper...
Lyrics are SO wrong ! ô.ô Seriously, WTF ? I totally hate this version 'cause it's such far from the original ! I'm french & I speak english quite well, so I can say that it sucks for the lyrics ! v.v
For the "refrain" it's something like : " Don't mater
If he loves me
I don't care of
The whole world"
Something like that. Nothing about saying "hymn to love" ! --'
Edith is the best
there is no soul....pain ,,spirit in the way it is being performed here..There is only Edith Piaf's version that is worth listening to.

Je me demandais qui pouvait répondre à ce message depuis le temps, ahah !
Oui, un vrai massacre...
Mieux Edith piaf
Sing not Ding
