The biggest enemies of this deck on Master Duel are unironically the timer and the bug. Your Turn 1 combo is very long and also necessitates a lot of special summons
It does seem like it can take awhile to fill up your graveyard. Does unchained have the same problems? I know unchained dies to Maxx c as well, but I'm just wondering if I suck at unchained combos, or if it has something to do with the "destroy my monsters to build bigger board" gimmick that dies to timer.
@@CamelotsmoonI'm no Unchained expert, but from my experience the timer isn't too bad? Like, what are you trying to end on? Rage + Wave High King Caesar + Unchained trap + Yama in grave, something like that?
@@genm4827 Well I was using the deck in the fusion/link event, so there is no wave king or tour guide. The deck feels super bricky in the event, but my time issues might be because I'm trying to load up the grave a bit (with the link 2 soul lord yama, unchained soul of shyama and abominable unchained soul mainly), while ending at least with the escape of the unchained trap and the link 2 unchained soul of rage. As a mexican myself, Im so into the Mementotlan archetype. It combines 2 of my favorite things in the world, Prehispanic cultures and OG retrains of some iconic Yugioh monsters from the first Yugioh Booster pack. Viva México carajo
@@reuenqad818 Oh yeah S:P is crazy in Memento because S:P can reset the attack on creation and can clear your own field so you can OTK when needed. You need a good hand to do everything though.. Angwitch does a lot on her own but you need 2 cards to really pop off.
The first wave of Memento from valiant smashers was literally unplayable. It got the fusion spell and fusion monster and suddenly became a rogue option, and with the latest support in the OCG is getting tournament results there. I like this kind of decks, I would decribe them as "dynamic", they have a lot of interaction, quickplay spells, also don't lock you into anything but also you are encouraged to play a lot of archetype cards, also it doesn't rely on floodgates as many rogue archetypes end up. This is good design.
15:47 mucha cerveza cristal, that's how he ended up dead, the cirrosis was so bad crystals started to grow inside his liver, until a crystal pierced his skull
Here's a fun tech for this deck: Chimera the King of Phantom Beasts. You can make it with Tatsunootoshigo (and soon Sheep) + either Goblin or Ghattic, and it's a good play in a pinch. I had a game where the opponent handtrapped me twice but because I had the Fusion in hand I was able to make them start their turn with a three card hand. Also, it has a Graveyard effect that can come up sometimes to revive one of the Chimera tri-type (Of which you have three good picks in this deck with Tatsu, Gyatthicc and El Goblino) for follow-up.
Also, for Master Duel specifically, Spright Elf is VERY good in this deck, because Gyatthicc is a Level 2 that gives you so much follow-up, and looping I:P and S:P (This one is basically the unofficial boss monster of this deck) is criminal
Horsey can only pop Memento monsters so you dodge stuff like imperm with the fusion into Twin Dragon or Bone Party into Tri-Horned and it will still pop them and let you foolish 4 monsters instead. The chimera stuff has some nice utility on later turns though. Guardian Chimera is nice but Memento already has two cards that can pop two cards on the field.. =/
I actually used this series’s ideas when looking at Memento myself. It helped a lot, and made me know what I was looking for with this deck. I did have to look up other stuff to figure out the deck more, but knowing what I was looking for was good
My experience playing against memento is either "Opponent surrendered" when going first or "Time Limit win" going second, no inbetween. The lines take a lot of time to execute on MD, and most players just aren't fast enough to do it properly, and if they're interrupted, they usually fold on the spot with most hands.
Yeah it's super frustrating learning what to do when hit with what handtrap because if you make the wrong decision you literally end on nothing lol. That said, you can play through a lot of interactions if you bait out the interruptions and still end on like a 7+ interruption board. Loses super fuckin hard to Maxx c and D Shifter though 😂😂
I’ve been watching your videos a lot lately. You’ve taught me a bunch. You really deserve more subs. Your actually funny, play well and have great energy and take the time to explain things. Keep up the awesome work guy.
The issue that this deck has in MD is the timer, but more specifically, if you use Goblin, Tatsu, or Twin Dragon to do multiple, it does not let you do multiple at a time. It goes one. Would you like to add/send another? Yes. Two. Would you like to add/send another? Yes. Three. That takes you like 10 seconds usually just to resolve those effects, and you will be doing all three across your whole turn. So that's 30 seconds gone already.
I love how most of the mementos look like a starter, i imagine it cam be tricky to know whats a 1 off whithout knowledge. Also i know its not meant to be the best build of the deck but if anyone wants to play memento, dark blade is the theoretical best starter so play a rota.
Memento is a fascinating example of how different "On paper" vs. "In practice " can be. You'd think that the level 1s would be the best starters, but Blade and Witch can give you so much more, especially thanks to the extra bodies you can use as Link material. That extra complexity has made it one of my favourite decks, up there with Ghoti
Trying to learn this deck from scratch was quite the experience for me. It's not the easiest thing in the world to learn the initial play line, and the play arounds to survive disruption are even trickier.
Some stuff to mention that was brought up on MBT ten minute test version of deck (I think it was that series) First of all the chain of events for one turn with this deck can chew up an insane amount of time with all the choices and searches being done... in short a sharp learning curve to not time out and end on a good field. Second its about as complex as D/D/D so play test it heavily to learn what you need to be more efficient with your search. Seemed super strong but difficult to pilot for casual players based off what I saw and heard on that vid.
For the intro, you were not sure, what the theme of this archetype is? Obviously this is a christmas archetype. The monsters are skeletal versions of old vanilla monsters...basically ghosts from the past. They are here to remind us grumpy modern players, who are always hungry for more powerful effects and many negates, of the simpler times back then. Just like in this classic christmas story of a greedy grumpy man, who is haunted by the ghosts of his past. Also, they kinda look like christmas trees with all those bright and colorful crystal thingies.
I fought a couple of these during the Fusion festival, this would've helped during those duels, but it definitely helps for fighting them in the future. I did however learn that the Horse is the one to Ash. XD
This deck really needed Spright Elf. It's still not great but it does give at least some protection to the Combined Creation so you don't instantly lose to a single piece of removal. You still needs to hard draw the field spell to make a decent board and even then it's pretty mediocre.. and it still loses to a single Ash Blossom or any non-targeting removal. You could run Bone Back to ensure that a Comhined Creation sticks around but then you can't end on Fracture Dance or the fusion. They could really use more proactive protection and a few more good names that don't rely entirely on Combined Creation.
There is a really cool interaction with the horsey and the fusion spell though. If you chain Memetotlan Fusion to Tatsunootoshigo it will resolve and pop the Twin Dragon instead which lets you foolish the 4 smaller monsters. The first effect on Twin Dragon won't trigger but it's still full combo if your opponent tries to use something like Imperm on the horse.
Honestly, your ratios weren’t the worst I’ve seen for a first attempt. The deck can fit a lot of non-engine, but since everything searches everything, it takes trial and error to learn who you need at 1, 2, and 3.
This deck does a lot, and with the next 2 additions, the deck can go super crazy and disrupt and I think it is worth playing. It's a fun deck and I play it IRL
There is a deck that I would like you to checkout, it’s a combined version of to winged-beastarchetypes. One of them is black wings. The other is Harpies I believe these two will make a good combination together to play with.
No way to stop spell traps does really hurt the deck, especially since there's. Lot of non-destruction removal running around, love the idea of the deck but it's basically a reverse ancient gear deck where instead of monster effects ruining your day spell traps do
Well, Memento is a word in latin, and If I remember well It means "remember the death" or "It's time to die", the first meaning on the sense that death is inevitable.
I know this is your first time playing the deck but that combo at the end actually hurts my eyes. This deck has like 15 one card starters to full combo, that ends on an i:p , tecuthlica, a mace in hand or angwitch in grave to summon by tecuthlica to search mace, mace stealing a monster and using it and i:p to summon s:p, and the monster negate trap or the pop. This deck need skill and knowledge of the deck to play and is not linear, unlike other meta decks.
So Mictlan sounds like meeked lawn, tlan is one syllable that rhymes with flan. Nahuatl isn't hard to read, mostly it sounds like it looks. So don't move vowels around
I personally find it funny that when I looked over these cards a few days ago (not knowing that you would make a video on them), I also referred to combined creation as "Big guy" when reading over their effects to memorize. But odd question Joe, what's your take on the TCG and do you still play in paper?
Not well, really. Memento monsters can only destroy other Memento for effect, and Twin&Horned are the only ones who have any effect when destroyed generically, and they both need another Memento monster for said effects to work. On top of that, Unchained has Fiend locks on the Water and Fire twins, so any version you play would have to either make sure to use them after you've finished your entire Memento combo, or just cut them outright. Realistically, you'd be better off just playing a PUNK or Horus package
This deck is just so much fun, it can end on a decent end board that does not feel oppressive but man does it feel like it spins it's wheels for a while lol. Also unlike the last couple of fun but "mid" decks this one is actually cheap!
currently only used this in the event (although with very random ratios - a pretty cheap deck to craft, but still a bit short of the big lads) and I'm having a gay old time. Plus, I just pulled an S:P royal for when I take this out into the wild ^_^
