You are awesome. I love the step by step detail you provide. I’ve been sewing for decades but hate alterations and avoided them like the plague. I’ve lost weight and was ready to give tailored skirts away. Not any more. I can now easily follow along and take in my skirts. Thanks a million.
This is great to hear 💖 I’m so happy you are going to start tailoring your skirts. I have a handful of videos on tailoring different types of skirts. So be sure to check them out if you get stuck.
Great video. I have a number of skirts that I need to take in after losing a few inches off my waist and now I think I have the confidence to do tackle them. You’re the best at showing how to make clothing alterations Anastasia, thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad that my video has given you the confidence to tackle your skirt alterations. You're doing amazing, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for this video. I am altering clothing for my childrens' Halloween costumes, and was intimidated to start. I followed your video, and the skirt I needed to change from a women's XL to a kids 6 looks pretty good!
this is fantastic, super helpful. I am a beginner sewist. I am working on a maxi skirt and felt intimidated, but now that I’ve watched this tutorial, I’m excited to sew it. I have another project that was a “fail”. I will go back and remove the waistband, re-pin and try again. Thankyou so much! ❤❤❤
I'm so glad you found the tutorial helpful! Don't worry, every beginner feels intimidated at first, but you'll do great with your maxi skirt. And don't be discouraged by the failed project, it happens to everyone. Just keep practicing and you'll improve!
Thank you for showing all the detail that you do on not only this video, but all alteration videos! Only thing I would say is that you should try on the garment you alter so we can see how it turned out. But other than that, I have so many of your videos saved. Yours and professor pin cushion. Ya’ll have great detailed videos that truly help me in my sewing more and more. I’m not a beginner by any means but I still learn quicker, easier and sometimes even more thorough processes every time I watch one of your videos.
Awww thank you so much! I can try it on but thought it would be easier to see on the dress form with me talking about it. I’ll also try it on next time. 🎀 Thank you for watching. If there are any specific videos you want to see just let me know 💕
Absolutely love your videos. So thorough and informative. Professionally recorded/edited. Yes, I would like to see the finished product modeled/styled TFS.
love the way you teach! so so excellent ! with practice & all you have shown it's a win win thx "Sew" much...Oh I chose this video because I was looking for...How to take in the side seams on a dress with side pocket's, Same way as seen in video ..Thx...new Subcriber
Excellent video with exceptional directions!! Can you pls pls do a video on how to alter a denim jacket…especially the sides?? Thanks for your consideration
Thank you! I designed the pattern and I have a whole sew along for it ruclips.net/video/mIygXkB0zIU/видео.html and you can get the pattern from my web site www.sewanastasia.com.
I wish this video had existed a couple of years ago. I found the most beautiful skirt at Goodwill that would have filled a gap in my wardrobe. But it had a side zipper and I did not know how to take it in to make it fit. I still regret not getting it, and waiting until I did learn how. The skirt did have a satin lining. Would you make the alterations differently in this case?
Ah, the regret of not getting that perfect skirt! But hey, at least now you'll be prepared for the next fabulous find at Goodwill. And who knows, maybe you'll find an even more amazing skirt with a side zipper that you can alter like a pro! and yes you would so the same thing even with a lining.
I love your videos!! I have so many clothes at various sizes because my weight fluctuates so much between a 4 and a 6 and once in a while an 8 or a 2. I’d love to condense my closet and be able to use some clothes at different stages. Do you have any suggestions for tailoring the waistband to a “temporary” size that can be undone to fit me through a couple sizes? (Assuming the sides can be undone). Bursting at the seams of my closet 😅 😂
Hi Anastasia, I left a comment with a question on your video about how to tailor a dress from awhile ago and wondered if you have had a chance to look at it, would love your advice. I don’t know if you go back and look at comments from previous videos. Thank you.

You don't have to pin down CF and CB if you are careful not to take in one side more then the other or just even it out when you take it off. Pinning to your undies is a great idea or a pair of tights or bodysuit would work too. Happy sewing!
I really wanted to jump on it after your video, my skirt has the zip on the back so I was like : GREAT. But then I realize my skirt has pockets on the sides, so I can't follow your tutorial, so sad 😭
Awwww booo. You will need to take off the pockets , take in the sides & put the pockets back on/in. Great news 📰 You don’t need to take out the zipper! So yours is easier with that! Hope you figure it out. Happy sewing & thank you for watching.

Love the dress you're wearing in the video. Do you have pattern available? :)
Thank you & I sure do! It’s the princess line dress under dress patterns on sewanastasia.com

Thanks for sharing!! It sounds like you might want to add elastic inside the waistband so it will fit many sizes.

Hi, I will try to get caught up. Maybe email it to me. Thank for watching 💕
Does this work the same for a dress with a side zipper?
Totally!
Can you please share where you purchased your dress form?
I got them so long ago. I think on eBay but try Roxy mannequin. I think that’s where it’s from.
Thank you so much!

What if I only need to take in the hips??
Pin up where you need to take it in & blend from seam to seam.
Do you need to pin the cf and cb if you’re fitting on yourself? Maybe to your underwear lol
You don't have to pin down CF and CB if you are careful not to take in one side more then the other or just even it out when you take it off. Pinning to your undies is a great idea or a pair of tights or bodysuit would work too. Happy sewing!
What if your skirt does not have Darts?
You can still take it in through the side seams or any seams that it has in it.
Why didn't you move the zipper to the back?
You want space at the top of the zipper for a finishing technique like a waistband, facing, bias etc

Not me over here barely able to thread my second hand sewing machine thinking I'm going to take in all my pencil skirts that are too big for me
It will get easier. Just keep practicing. Maybe start with some thrifted skirts you don't care about incase you have any major sewing accidents.
