If you’re right hand dominant you should be operating with your handle on the left side of your body, that’s part of the design of that handle is to get the steering across to your left side and also adjust it to hip height while standing. Highly recommend a grab bar. Great vid man thanks for posting!
I've never run a mud motor, but I've read there is a sweet spot in the wake where the water is actually flowing forward. When the prop is in that spot, the water is helping push you forward. I bet you'll get the hang of it pretty quick!!!
Duck Gun Chronicles fr get the chills everytime i watch ur old video’s, last season was kinda bad are engine was running crappy and my dog cut his foot, hopefully this season works itself out, and i can pull together my first limit🤘🏽🦆
Do you have the trim bolt in? It looks like you are still having to fight it. I had modify mine. Works more like a tiller vs a long tail. Also. Do not trust the mount. Had mine come loose when going through nasty stuff. Pain but get the engine where you want and drill through the transom. Don't want to be in the marsh or on the highway and drop the motor off.
What kind of bushings did you use for the shaft when you made the long tail into a short tail? I know you said you were going to try. Have you tried it yet?
Gary Reams don’t take me as a negative Nancy, not near fast enough tho. First couple minutes appear to be like 10mph maybe... and that thing is a booger to work. Trust me. On a cold morning headed to the duck hole, you don’t want that headache. Speaking from SD experience
@@jacksonseale7191 I have a twister, with the 212 engine. For a boat that size its plenty and way less wrasslin. The 22 could push a 16ft hybrid flat. Cant really beat it for getting in WAY to the back of your favorite hole without an hour of push poling in the dark.
Curious to see how the mud skipper holds up! Just invested 6 grand into mud buddy surface drive, planned on getting the mud skipper but wanted to insure I was spending my money on a lasting product. Love the vids!! Keep it up
Looked like fun. By chance do you have a tall transom? If you had a short transom I don't think the throttle bar would be up so high when you are operating it. Hope you find a fix!
Hey man, I remember my first time using a SD, coming from a outboard it’s very foreign. The more you play around with it the better you’ll get. Having one with a clutch (f-n-m) is handy.
I recommend a grab handle and solid footing to stand while running. Your handle is way to tall imo. Should be waist high. There is a definite learning curve with mud motors.
Hey bud i also have a mud skipper surface drive and i found that if position the unit slightly above the bottom of the boat and put trim pin or bump stop in middle position it will get you really close to the sweet spot but you definitely want the prop shaft on the surface the prop being half way out of the water and the motor will always kick up if you go over a log
@@DuckGunChronicles You may need a jack plate to get it both high enough and level with the water. Is that a 14x32 jon? Thats a lot of motor for that boat. Be careful not to roll it with the motor up high it will get tippy.
Was that some drone footage that I was seeing? Really love the video quality, good luck with the motor! Never used one but I've heard there is a sweet spot in the water column for better propulsion
U gotta change that handle bud or make u a hande to hold onto so u can stand up. And is ur blind permanent? Might be easier to run if you can taje it off when running then put it on when u get to the hole. JS
Agreed. We put a 9-horse Mud Buddy on a 24ft pontoon blind on Saginaw Bay Lake Huron when the.lake levels were way low in the early 2000s. Maneuverability was crap and it was slow but it got us through all the mud flats. Definitely need to get used to standing while under way!
Sounds like she runs great. Once you get the hand of it you'll be golden. Can't wait for the season to start!!!
Oh ya! I agree with you there!
Putting a bimini top on mine for sun protection ,don't need my beer getting hot

Nice! Ya I’ll keep at ir
Wish I had that setup! Im still just using my yak til i can save up for a boat, so congrats on the boat and motor!!!
Thanks man! It’s a working progress but I’m pumped 🤙
One more season on the yak for me. Hopefully April I will be looking for a boat!
sam wilkes nice! Nothin wrong with yak hunting 🤙
I think you did great for your first time out. You will master it for sure!! Can’t wait to see what comes next!!👍🏼🦆🦆
Thanks man!
Looks good. Hope you enjoy it man.
Thanks man 🤙
I’ve got a swamp Runner long tail. I made my own handle out of black pipe
Its looking great! Man I love that drone footage! You better bring that drone to KS
Thanks man 🤙🤙 heck ya
The struggle is real!!
Haha 😬😬
Looking good for the first time on the water with it! I bet having a grab handle would make it easier to operate while standing
Thanks man! Ya prolly, I’m planning to just hang onto the blind for now
Can you get the prop out of the water to float kinda thing? Or is it just always below?
You can lift it out of the water
#1 comment deserves a prize! Your videos are getting better every season, keep up the great work.
Haha Mayb so 😆. Thanks man!
I need to get my kit put back together so i can go out and practice 🤘🏽
Ya man 🤙 season is comin in fast

I recognize that ramp! I live close by there. I've been wanting to upgrade to a mud motor but I'll be running the ol 78 johnson 25hp one more season😬
Nice 👍 ya it’s legit. Small world ha I’ve never actually hunted there

What shades you wearing?

Boat size ? I have a 14-36 curios to know if that’s similar
It’s 16 by 48 lund
That thing looks like a workout...
Ha it was.. I think it wouldn’t pull so hard if I dropped the motor a few inches
About how fast was it
I’m really not sure I should get a speedometer app.. it seemed fast tho
Duck Gun Chronicles just judging by the wake I would say at least 15-18

Me too! A mud muddy is solid brand I couldn’t afford anything like that right now. Thanks man I’ll keep em comin 🤙🤙
Looks like you have it trimmed down to far prop should only be half way in the water when on plain
Interesting it seemed to push harder when it was further in the water
Duck Gun Chronicles just need to find the sweet spot all surface drives have one
How’s the reliability of the kit been?
Looked like fun. By chance do you have a tall transom? If you had a short transom I don't think the throttle bar would be up so high when you are operating it. Hope you find a fix!
Nah it’s a short transom. Ya I prolly need to adjust it some
@@DuckGunChronicles okay, that's good. They can be tough to deal with if it were a tall transom and a short motor.
How is this mud skipper motor holding up after a year?
Honestly I had some trouble with the lower unit staying sealed
Hey man, I remember my first time using a SD, coming from a outboard it’s very foreign. The more you play around with it the better you’ll get. Having one with a clutch (f-n-m) is handy.
What size is your boat?

Thanks for the advice!

Awesome thanks man! Ya, I ended trimming it up quite a bit and it was a lot better

Definitely better standing up, you could mount a grab handle. They handle way different once you load all your hunting gear.
Nice ya I figured more weight in the front would be good
Stand up while running the motor and stay in front of the handle. If it kicks sideways you're going out of the boat if you're sitting beside it
How big is your boat? Looks like its chugging along pretty nice.
It’s a 16ft. Ya it was rippin pretty good 🤙🤙
U gotta change that handle bud or make u a hande to hold onto so u can stand up. And is ur blind permanent? Might be easier to run if you can taje it off when running then put it on when u get to the hole. JS
Ya it is permanent.. I might have to change something it up.. hard to say what I’ll do though..

Looks like you weren’t able to get the boat on plain
Not sure, I’m not much of a boat guy but it might be easier with more weight in the front to even it out
be easier if you were standing with the z handle other wise put the straight one back on.
Ya I’ll try it 👍
stand up or drop the handle
Prolly so
That blind has to go! need it to fold down and out of the way!
That does not look comfy to drive you need to rig something up better with the handle so it comes down more so you can control it better
Ya prolly right I just don’t know what exactly right now
😂😂😂😂😂
Take that stupid ass handle off and cut it down 🤣🤣👍🏻🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
