Agreed. Amazing a passenger car with these tires did this well. Tires are the best and cheapest performance upgrade you can make. Cup2s are the best choice for this Florida car. They'll make a massive difference on dry days and even run ok in the rain.
@@MultiTerpen regen only does so much to stop the car under high speeds. It's well documented the plaid is under-braked from factory without the new track pack which includes carbon ceramics. I'm sure the weight reduction helps but still

Was he beating him that night regardless of the lane he was given... absolutely not
Test and Tune at the Freedom factory playing and dialing the stability control, testing other tires would be pretty cool! You guys are freaking pioneering the next era. A grudge race with Tesla Racing channel would be cool too.
Maybe also get some softer spring rates/shocks. Removing almost 1,000lbs of weight might have made the suspension much stiffer and could be negatively affecting the cars performance as well. Just my thought
no, do not mess with the suspension; the air suspension keeps the height correct which is important for the geometry. You will also get errors and not be able to enter track mode if you start messing with it.
@@ChargedTTq the suspension on the tesla is handled by a computer. if kyle messes with it. the computer wont know how to deal with it. there is no aftermarket as far as i know of that offers the stuff for a tesla. another thing is it wont drive properly if it doesnt know whats supposed to be there and ultimately disable itself. the tesla is literally a computer on wheels. its not the same as a normal car buddy/ your the one who doesnt understand that the tesla cant be completely modded without a computer overhaul and system remap

Mehhh, Porsche is on better tires and Cletus has a ton of experience in both his car and his track. If anything, the plaid, designed as a four door family car, being that close to the Porsche was a testament to how fast the plaid is.
I only have a model 3 performance so it may be different on the plaid…but in track mode you can change the AWD bias, the amount of traction control, and the amount of regen it has. EDIT: just finished the video a saw you figured that out 😂

Acrylic or other plastic see-through body parts to improve aero. On the leeroy windtunnel video they said it acted like a parachute without the body, so improving aero a bit without ruining the aesthetic i would love to see you try
Nice run guys, yeah for sure try playing with the track mode settings, it lets you go anywhere from full to no traction, and even lets you go any ratio between front and rear wheel drive or both, etc. It makes a big difference depending on track you wanna customize for, that's for sure!

Seeing that screen having "Drift Preset" and "handling balance" I think you need to fully unleash this thing and do some sick AWD drifting,burnouts etc. Would be sick to see the Tesla chained up against Wyats race truck for a Horsepower pull off.
Yeah you can put a full steering wheel on that car, idk if it's an option from the dealer. I think it's an option you can get, not for sure though but I know you can put an aftermarket wheel or buy a normal tesla wheel and put that on yourself. The yoke is a cool idea, at first I thought damn that looks sick but then I experienced it for myself and my first thought was this is not a good steering wheel for the masses. Most the population is accustom to normal wheels so you know where the wheel is, the yoke isn't the case so if you find yourself in a situation where you gotta turn the wheel quick, I can see people grabbing for the wheel as if it was a normal wheel and it not be there
I daily drive a plaid and I changed the yoke to the round wheel. Tesla now offers a round "retrofit" steering wheel which is $700 but I got mine for free because my yoke had a peeling defect that they warrantied. The round wheel is 1,000x better than the yoke and I would imagine it would help substantially on a track like this. Tesla also offers a "track pack" that upgrades the brakes, wheels and tires which would make it much better on this track as well.

I would love to see a one piece plexiglass front end. And also turns le struts to offset the cross weight for circle racing.... this thing could dominate once setup

I’m a Tesla fan. But hats off to that Porsche. It held its own. The need for traction control with 3 electric motors pretty critical on a track like this. If you break traction you may as well pull on the handbrake as far as traction is concerned with no gears or RPM to limit wheel spin.
Would be cool if Tesla adds a circle track setting in an update so it changes suspension settings specifically for left hand turns. Can't wait to see what E-roy can do with some better tires.
It already is. You can adjust the parameters for front and rear engines and the traction. So by fining your sweet spot you can make your own Setting. This feature was the reason to buy the Performance M3 😎
@@christopherbeevor9315 These cars have air suspension and adaptive damping suspension systems. So while you're point is accurate, the car has quite a bit of built in and manually controlled suspension configuration available at the touch of a button.

I think that’s the goal. With the right aero for the oval and tyres/suspension settings he’ll dominate there, and with the right aerodynamics he’ll smash the 1/4 mile record too. Lots of potential in that car!

Having driven a few Teslas, they go like the clappers (as we say here in Oz), but it's not a "visceral" experience. I used to own a 964 and rode a Ducati ST2 - both gave such a glorious note. Never been keen on electrics, but i kinda like this chopped up space frame car. The windscreen and dashboard will probably get you another 100 pounds. Softer suspension to match the new weight, will help out too. Keep it going, pretty cool idea, that no one has been crazy enough to do

@@JamesBalazsormally you want to stiffen up a suspension for a track car, but without all the extra weight its basically already done that. Some good shocks valved specifically for the car would help, but not absolutely required. The wheels and tires and possibly reevaluating where the spoiler is located and how surdy it is would give the best results. The sidewall of the runflats is probably naking the car skittish and the pilot sports are good tires, but not specifically track oriented

Order of operations: Full fiberglass/carbon front clip Cut rear towers out and run a cage and body setup similar to savage garage’s r8. Can you ask @richrebuild to build you a lighter battery? You only need 50% capacity as last week you only lost 20% battery capacity in all the 6 or 8 passes you made with the same voltage output of course...
Check the track mode settings. There is an area you can save a bunch of various presets which dictate how much (from -10 to 10) lateral slip/TC is allowed as well as a slider for FWD/RWD bias. Could help you tighten the car up a bit. edit: Nvm you figured it out 😅
For cornering michelin cup 2 slicks would be very nice for this car but the pilot sport 4s which are on it are not bad either just a different ballgame altogether
Holy sh*tsnacks! That thing is crazy fast! Controversies aside, Electric vehicles can perform very very well, expecially when it comes to torque. Yeah better wheels, tires and maybe even suspension and it will be a weapon.
+1 on wheels, tires and brakes but in addition if you can get one throw on a good front splitter, the plaid pulls over a G in a straight line and that pulls a lot of weight off the front tires. A rear wing without a front splitter will actually pull even more weight off of the front tires and make it even harder to turn

If you know anything about aerodynamics, they you would reposition that spoiler. It needs to be on a downward angle so the wind pushes the rear of the car for more traction and stability
Kyle, under driving profiles you can setup a "Drift Profile" and just send all power to the rear only. At least I think it would be wise my Model 3 Performance has this option.
I love E-Roy !! That thing is a beast!! I will say get rid of those tires tho, I’ve replaced a couple due to flats and they are lined with a foam insert. It’s to reduce road noise but also makes them pretty heavy.. 🤙🏼

The tires on it are very good if they’re stock, not for the drag strip though. Wheels will be have some unsprung weight savings though.

Falken RT660s would do great. They warm up quick and grip HARD for a street/track tire. That's what I run for AutoX and track days on my Eclipse.
Also those stock Tesla wheels are not light at all

Im not sure about that, you could see the wing had pressure on it if i had to guess it was doing some stuff.. just guessing though.

Having driven a few Teslas, they go like the clappers (as we say here in Oz), but it's not a "visceral" experience. I used to own a 964 and rode a Ducati ST2 - both gave such a glorious note. Had a stupid grin on my face every time I was out driving/riding with them. Something special about mechanical drive IMHO. Cheers mate - Dave

Never been keen on electrics, but i kinda like this chopped up space frame car. The windscreen and dashboard will probably get you another 100 pounds. Softer suspension to match the new weight, will help out too. Keep it going, pretty cool idea, that no one has been crazy enough to do

Absolutely awesome! You need lightweight wheels and slick tyres as this will make a ton of difference. 👍🏻
And some coilovers! Ideally not off the shelf ones designed for a Tesla. Needs softer springs and valving for the lower weight, it would make a massive difference.
@@JamesBalazsormally you want to stiffen up a suspension for a track car, but without all the extra weight its basically already done that. Some good shocks valved specifically for the car would help, but not absolutely required. The wheels and tires and possibly reevaluating where the spoiler is located and how surdy it is would give the best results.
The sidewall of the runflats is probably naking the car skittish and the pilot sports are good tires, but not specifically track oriented

Order of operations:
Full fiberglass/carbon front clip
Cut rear towers out and run a cage and body setup similar to savage garage’s r8. I want to see some really wide stickies on this thing in the future too. Keep up the good work keep living the dream!
Can you ask @richrebuild to build you a lighter battery? You only need 50% capacity as last week you only lost 20% battery capacity in all the 6 or 8 passes you made with the same voltage output of course...

Check the track mode settings. There is an area you can save a bunch of various presets which dictate how much (from -10 to 10) lateral slip/TC is allowed as well as a slider for FWD/RWD bias. Could help you tighten the car up a bit.

For cornering michelin cup 2 slicks would be very nice for this car but the pilot sport 4s which are on it are not bad either just a different ballgame altogether
I’m gonna say some softer and wider tires (335+?) all around, and maybe some suspension tuning or better yet, widen the stance as much as possible 😊

+1 on wheels, tires and brakes but in addition if you can get one throw on a good front splitter, the plaid pulls over a G in a straight line and that pulls a lot of weight off the front tires. A rear wing without a front splitter will actually pull even more weight off of the front tires and make it even harder to turn

If you know anything about aerodynamics, they you would reposition that spoiler. It needs to be on a downward angle so the wind pushes the rear of the car for more traction and stability
Rims and rubber (drag and track setup), suspension and alignment tuning, aero for both dragracing and track.
Kyle, under driving profiles you can setup a "Drift Profile" and just send all power to the rear only. At least I think it would be wise my Model 3 Performance has this option.

I love E-Roy !! That thing is a beast!! I will say get rid of those tires tho, I’ve replaced a couple due to flats and they are lined with a foam insert. It’s to reduce road noise but also makes them pretty heavy.. 🤙🏼
Lighter wheels. Get two sets, one for track work with some Sport Cups or P-Zeros, and the other with a drag setup.
