The birds are noisy little critters sometimes but I love their song! Yes, phrags can get very big. I baulk at the size of some of the specimens in the Botanic Gardens.
Beautiful phrag! Where we are there is no problem using tap water for phrags, in fact, I didn't know they were fussy! I guess it very much depends on the water quality in your particular area. May people here also have great success growing them in semi-hydroponics.

Great culture tips! It's surprising how many orchids (especially paphs) that come from areas with limestone type rocks around them and adding calcium does wonders for these sorts of orchids. In the 'paphiopedilum world' there are some that grow actually ON limestone cliffs/rocks and have constant seeping water running down. But others live in leaf litter and decomposing soil areas that need more acidity. In the world of hybrids though, it's a bit like guesswork so 'middle of the road' might be the best way. I don't grow any phrags - but this one has 'caught my eye' so maybe........
I remember a video about phragmipedium besseae growing in the wild, and it was exactly like you described, Roger. Growing on a limestone cliff and around it, and there was a layer of moving water running down the cliff constantly over their roots. Looked beautiful. That's the best conditions for phrag. besseae. I love the red blooms very much. There are a lot of phrag. besseae crosses nowadays, and they would love the most to have the same conditions, which are hard to reproduce in a home environment, but crosses are more forgiving. They like pure water, and to be flushed frequently. Some people grow them in a mix of rock wool and other stuff, which has the advantage of not decaying too fast and repotting doesn't need to be done so often, but I read that's hard to remove rockwool from roots sometimes.
Very good repotting. I'm sute the phrag will love it. :) Do you need to change the media on a yearly basis? I suppose bark decompose quickly when constantly moist. Thank you for the video. I just got a Phragmipedium Chuck Acker division and it was re-potted in a sandy soil. It has a spike and looks like it will bloom in the next week. Would you recommend repotting it into bark or moss the next time I repot?
The red/orange ones are really impressive but I like the shape of some of the more subtly coloured ones. I will have to get a besseae and some stage though.
I have Phragmipedium Fisheri x Richeri. Now It is gowning a new plant. I water it daily, and let the water go trough the media (bark+rock wool). Please tell me am I doing good or wrong
You are doing the right thing. I am lazy so sit my phrags in water but I believe it is actually better to do as you are doing and flush them every day. And both of your species are wet growing phrags. Happy growing!

+Gardening at Douentza No i dont. repotted in February. I try and water daily in the summer afternoons. I have them misted by the misters also daily in the mornings. i find them alot easier than paphs

I would suggest bark for aeration. Sand can choke an orchid.

I have mine in pure bark as well. Had them sitting in water till the media was absorbed. now i only wash the water from top with no tray
