I remember hearing this poem for the first time 12 years ago, I'm half syrian half palestinian and I first heard this poem when bombs were dropping over our heads . Rafeef has been one of the only voices that has been able to translate our suffering into a language they understand. I cried hearing this again . They want a human story. Our whole life has been walking around eggshells and censorships and journalists need for "human stories".. Life has become an evil waiting game. Waiting for the next massacre. Waiting and waiting and waiting. How much more do we have to lose? How many more children will have to hear the sounds of bombs for the rest of their lives? They say we teach hate but how can a child love the occupation that left them limbless and murdered their brother? That flattened their home and favorite restaurant? That forcibly starved them and deprived them of the privilege of sleeping and dreaming. Yet if there was one thing my baba and Palestinians in Palestine have taught me; it's how to hold on to joy when its there, because you never know when it might leave you.
We Palestinians wake up every morning to teach the rest of the world life, sir
    Thank you Rafeef.
