This is the series that made me realize that I didn't have to get back into raiding to have something to do in the game, and probably solely responsible to be sticking with the game this time around. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, thank you for posting everything you do and showing that there are more ways to WoW than those the most pervasive voices would have the world believe.

Lol. I love raiding; doing storylines; but I also enjoy doing silly stuff like hosting birthday parties at my garrison for friends; saving up snowballs to throw at horde after sneaking my rogue into crosssroads to pickpocket guards; participating in a naked dwarf race (level 1) from Stormwind to orgrimmar. (I won because I snuck onto the horde airship in Stanglethorn…so many fun things to do other than ‘business as usual’.

indeed, this is 2022, nobody should be telling you HOW to play the game! WoW is a second home to me and i've enjoyed the game since Vanilla (save for BFA, god that was HORRIBLE!) to this day i've NEVER been super competitive with it, though i have tried with little to no success. i still want to do all forms of content but honestly The Big 3 as they're known by in the community, all rub me in the wrong way (like Sandpaper on bare skin...) so i collect, i explore and i do quests in all forms of content! that is where i have the most fun and THAT is what is important, to have FUN, i swear the concept of fun has been twisted by the tryhards to the point that they are warped in their heads.

Re: adding your alts to your own guild. What I did was to use the Recruitment button on my guild master account, describe the recruitment as 'my own alts only' and then logged into each alt and searched for my guild then applied to be recruited. Didn't need a 2nd account or a friend to help. Hope this helps too.

A tip for those who still need to unlock Sunsong Ranch on alts - do it during MoP Timewalking Week - the rep boost means that you'll hit exalted and unlock every part of the farm will only take you about three or four days of dailies.
You also don't need to do anything to prep unlocking it - just go over to Halfhill and talk to Yoon to start off the questline.

  • @PelinAyter

My (very) long-time goals: Finish each quest in each zone with a cloth, mail and plate wearer to get questing mog items. I already have all the leather, as I've done it on my main :) Also, setting up your alt army early enables rested XP on each. You can rotate them for levelling, altoholic show what % of rested XP they have, and if you really are not into active levelling, you can slack in your garrisons to do XP quests from time to time (btw levels 10-50) to gain a level every other week or faster if you are bothered to check more often (although they nerfed this I think, the XP seems to proc less often)

I know you said not to do all alts as one race, but I've been leveling an army of all gnomes and having tons of fun. My main is a mage and I've leveled a hunter, a warlock, and I'm working on a priest. I also got a gnome rogue, monk, warrior and deathknight in the wings. Some are mecha-gnomes, but it's still an army of short people.

I realized some of these benefits right away when I started playing wow five months ago. I’ve also realized that as long as they tie crafting marks to achievements, it’s good to have your main armor maker have two of the armor making professions

I regularly come back to this video just for the "stop saying no" part.
I second guess my characters so much. I RP fairly often and I also enjoy actually playing the game with those RP characters. Often times I will try to fit the class around with potential transmog, as well as what class would seem more fitting for my character.
For example: My gnome Jennzi, whi I plan to RP as a crazy, explosives loving engineer, has been remade too many times because I second guess the class. I bounced back and forth between classes and just kept saying no after about 10-20 levels each time. My most recent viewing of this video's "stop saying no" section made me finally snap out of this loop and just say "screw it, i'm picking a class and sticking with it." She is now a hunter who wields a giant gun almost as big as her and I wouldn't see her as any other class now.
Also this video inspired me to make my own "Joke" character. A Kul Tiran rogue, shirtless, bald and with a handlebar mustache. Dual wielding the Theldurin's Fist weapon. At first was gonna go monk, but picked rogue due to not liking monk animations on Kul Tiran, and also Stealth Haymaker for pvp. Now I refuse to ever delete this glorious man.
Apologies for wall of text, but TL:DR - This video helped me a lot! Thanks and keep being awesome!

coming back to this video i must say, it’s really nice to hear how you shouldn’t worry about the upkeep of alts! It’s been one of the major stressors and hindrance for me since i always felt like they had to be “on par” with my main.. which is why I in turn always was reluctant to make alts. but being reminded that no, you actually don’t have to do that, is very freeing in a sense that I’ve started focusing different alts on different things. Like my hunter doing bfa-related stuff while my death knight grinds argent tournament dailies. I’ve also already started a few more alts with classes I’ve been holding off to play and found i even like some of them! So thank you again kraken, this has really renewed my obsession with this game!

Love that you put all the videos for this series into one video. I'm sure I'll be watching this more than once, as I have watched parts that were separate multiple times as well.
I still have yet to get my alts set up with several of the items you mention in part 7.
Several of my alts have been on the shelf for this xpac. I'm slowly dusting them off lately, now that I've retired from Mythic raiding, and getting them their catchup gear to start farming stuff again.

One nice thing about having a few characters scattered across other servers is you can hunt for pet discounts in the AH! I like the pet magpie site. I have toons with at least a little money on 6 different servers. When i see there’s a cheap price available, I pop over there and snap it up. If you get ambitious you can buy and sell across servers, but I do it just to build my collection. It’s especially awesome to get those pets that require a horrible grind…sometimes I enjoy working hard to adopt a pet, but not always! When there’s a good deal, it’s pretty awesome. Stilll…you’re right that it’s best to have most of your characters in the same place.

one great thing they just added is that if you have Alliance and Horde on the same server, they can now mail things to each other. That means I can gather ore on my Horde Paladin, ship it over to my Alliance character with Blacksmithing, and make gear for the Horde Paladin. I no longer need crafting on both sides of the fence. Good times.

Good idea - hadn't considered multiple alchemists, I just have the one Alliance/one Horde, but it would be easy to flip a couple of the gatherers over as they take Engineering at max level (the non-crafters) so they can use wormholes, etc. Void storage - good idea. Love the garrisons and have ALL of my characters with one. Some still need leveling, but they're there! ** Guild cloak as another travel option. **

I recently finished my army of Horde alts and I'm currently making my Alliance army of alts, It's has been so much fun leveling with the new chromie system and also doing pvp in between. My reasons for make those armies where for mount and transmog collection but also because i want a character of each race cause looks cool and i enjoy making them some kind of background history in common. I really hope that Blizzard implement more alt friendly features and also give us at some point some form of housing or something like Lost Ark, where we can have all our alts in a base or garrison, as if they were some kind of group or clan... For as long as I've been playing MMORPGs (think Anarchy Online) I've been drawn to creating alt armies. The friends I played with all prioritized leveling, gearing up and raiding, and considered alts as counterproductive in terms of those goals. My decision to make All the Alts, being able to play every race and class and do All the Professions was to them utterly baffling and wrong. So seeing a video like this is very validating to me.

I understand why they joke about alt armies, but occasionally you'll hear someone try to shame others for having an alt army. And those shamers are stupid. There's nothing wrong from piling your plate up with a bit of everything from the buffet. Plus, I'm the one paying the meal ticket. I can experience the game however I want.
I have 3 accounts because I love alts. The second account recently met the character cap wall. I remember most of their names. I'm an RPer and I keep getting ideas. Some are nothing more than ideas right now. Some of full backstories.
    I love my alts! ❤️

A couple toys that I find highly useful in an alt army are Katy's Stampwhistle for instant mailbox access anywhere, and the Angler's Fishing Raft. The former is unlocked if you follow the Dalaran Postmaster questline, which requires finding Lost Mail on the ground near a Dalaran mailbox. The latter requires getting up to Revered rep with the Anglers in Pandaria so its a bit more of a slog to get, but well worth the effort.
Getting the Half Hill farm up and running is worth it IF you have any alts doing Pandaria crafting professions; once you get it fully operational you can literally farm the mats you need, and grow songbells to get spirit of harmony which is currency for certain recipes.

As for professions i love the insight, but i have to add that you probably want enchanting (+tailoring, or whatever you want really. I chose tailoring for the extra cloth drops, not because it synergizes well with enchanting) on one of your more often played characters if not your main, since you will end up needing crystals, which usually only come from epic loot

I would disagree on one point regarding professions--I used to do the whole "pair gathering with matching crafting" thing, but that's horribly inefficient for actually playing the character. There are two major factors here for why I don't follow that idea anymore.
For crafting professions, you often need to have the character fully leveled into current content if you want to make all of the new stuff, so having one crafting prof per character means you have to level twice as many characters early on if you want to be ahead of the goldmaking curve. Also, having that many characters that are of classes you don't enjoy in current content as much that you "have to" level can be daunting. I know that I don't like playing my mage, but she's always been my tailoring/enchanting character, so I have to level her to take advantage of her professions, rather than some other character I enjoy more.
For gathering professions, especially herbing and mining, these are often best together, since you can then dedicate a bunch of characters to do gathering and get essentially double the materials per round of a zone (assuming you do any farming). Also, tailoring IS a gathering profession, since you get extra cloth (cloth scavenging) just by being a tailor. I have tailoring and skinning on my monk specifically because brewmaster monk has the statue which makes pulling hyperspawn mobs super efficient, and allows her to just Rushing Jade Wind every so often, then pick up all the cloth or leather. Enchanting is a profession that I use as a filler for all the characters that I don't have a dedicated profession on, so I can disenchant all of the gear they don't need. I don't actually level most of my gathering professions (particularly tailoring or enchanting since they gather at 100% rate at skill level 1).
The way I lay out my professions is thus: JC and BS together (was really handy for SL leggos), tailoring and enchanting together (both for crafting), then with few exceptions I pair off each other profession with enchanting. For gathering, I have a double gathering character (herbing/mining) which is a druid for easier herb gathering, and a tailoring/skinning monk for easy killing. Also, the monk is my cook, since she doesn't need bank space for crafting materials. I will probably be adding alchemy to my scribe at some point, to gain that bit of inventory management efficiency.

Its spreadsheet for dummies/lazy ones basicly.
    But great guide. TY

48 toons maxed all over ilvl225 with maxed proff, and treat all as if they were mains. I don't raid unless it's to finish quest. I play at least 8 hours a day since I'm retired. Only wish I would have is changing class in store would roc. 12 mages and would love to change maybe 3 to 4 to maybe another rge or another sham. 8 locs also maybe change 2. Ya I have problems but love playing. Mostly solo player , found out guilds long ago isn't for me.

Collecting, buying and upgrading heirlooms is great for leveling an alt army. It gets expensive real quick if your buying with gold, but I would only focus on the ones you need at the time. It really helps that 1-50 grind just fly by especially. You can level them up to 60, but you only really need to do it till 45-50 depending on if you wanna do the maw intro to shadowlands at lvl 48 or skip it at 50. Also the higher lvl they are the less gear you have to worry about gathering gear. Though it really cuts down on the grind of leveling. If you collect enough heirlooms it also gives you a mount you can use at level 1 such helps you speed through the starting zone. Though the only thing that sucks about them is you have to level them up bit by bit form like lvl 30-40-45-50-60(or something like that) and the prices go up for each upgrade so you have to buy like the 40 upgrade then the 45 upgrade, and so for every their and there are like 5 teirs. It's a total pain to lvl them in mass, but it will help you level every subsequent alt.

    • @darkmyro
      @darkmyro Год назад

to add on to what I wrote, it takes about 30k to fully upgrade one item to lvl 60, the current cap, and currently there are no heirlooms for hands, boots, bracers and belts.( though I really think they should add heirlooms for those slots!) I would only really focus right now on getting things up to about 45ish cause at lvl 48 you can go through the maw intro, but that's probrobly gonna change with the next expansion. I've done the math and there are 94 heirlooms to get and 30k to upgrade them so that means it will cost you a whopping 2,820,000 gold. Also certain ones like defending/returning champion take some pvp work. but you only have to worry about those if you plan to pvp. Though I wouldn't worry, you only have to worry about that if your trying to upgrade everything all at once. So you only need about 420k for a full set of maxed out alt gear at this point.

I didn't really want to make an because i don't want my progression split between characters but now because of warbands you can have all your characters contributing to your account and share to your other characters like one big family, like just imagine the RP potential within your own characters now

I know this is a bit late, but there's a good reason to use an Elixir Mastery Alchemist for your Archaeologist. The Vial of the Sands recipe uses 8x Flask of Titanic Strength and 8x Flask of the Winds. It's a teeeny tiny cost savings (probably eaten by posting costs on the AH), but it *is* a benefit, so might as well?

Here is my alt leveling process (Just fyi :)
1: Go to Chromie and choose the WoD expansion
2: Do the intro questline until you have your garrison, first followers and can make your own decisions
3: Build the tavern (dont know the name for alliance) that allows you to recruit followers
4: Now you can passively send followers on missions to get Garrison Resourses and even raw exp for you, if you build a trade post you can also exchange those GR's for WoD materials
5: Now Hearth back to your capital and talk to Chromie again, this time choose the MoP expansion
6: From here you can take your time to level through the Jade Forest while also LFG instances once a day, i suggest picking 2 gathering proffesions while you are going through this
7: When you get to the halfhill market, thats when you can slow down a bit, Halfhill has a bunch of easy to do daily quest on rotation that also unlocks the Sunsong farm which lets you plant several types of mats for easy mat gathering.
Simply log in on an alt, start in your garrison by sending off followers and getting rewards, hearth to MoP, Que for a dungeon and pick up your dailies, when you are done with them and the dungeon, use the garrison hearth and log off in your garrison, then switch to the next alt.
I liked this lvl'ing proccess because A: didnt have to progress through story content or such and get quests i didnt like. B: MoP mats are some of the most worth while mats (on my server) because you need them for lots of transmogs (lightning ingot), mounts (panthers and sky golem) and pets, so Sunsong farm gives you lots of mats and you gather alot while doing dailies. and C: All the content is easily soloable while giving a big chunk of exp, garrison missions can give exp too and since you do it each day and log off in garrison you have lots of rested exp too.
Long term the garrison is also good for getting WoD mats for free by trading GR's for mats at the tradepost, use it yourself or sell them on AH.

just one smal thing: you don't need a second acc/friend to invite your alts into a guild: just list the guild in the guildfinder tool, log onto your alt, apply, log on the next alt, apply, and so on. then log on the guild char, confirm the applys and the next time you log in on your alt, you can join the guild.

I obviously made my Hunter one of my Engineers, because guns, scopes and ammo. The less obvious choice was Paladin, but at the time Pallies didn't have a real ranged attack to pull with, so having dynamite to throw would be a very useful addition to their toolbox.
Made the Hunter Gnomish and the Pally Goblin because at the time one of the draws for Goblin was the Goblin Sapper Charge which made a melee range AoE instead of being thrown, so it wouldn't see any use on my Hunter.
All of this was back during WotLK, so while it's not really relevant on Retail anymore I suppose it's still decent advice for Classic.

My alts are situated differently. I only have 1 main gathering profession. Having 4 enchanters with different armor class is really good that way you can pass around gear for D/E esp for catch up BOA gear.
    1. Miner/Herbalist
    2. Enchanting/Blacksmith - (Plate-D/E)
    3. Enchanter/Tailor - (Cloth - D/E)
    4. Enchanter/Engineer - (Mail - D/E; Gnomish Engineer)
    5. Enchanter/Engineer - (Leather - D/E; Goblin Engineer)
    6. Tailor/Engineer - (Gnomish Engineer)
    7. Alchemy/Herbalist - Potion
    8. Alchemy/Herbalist - Potion
    9. Alchemy/Jewelcrafter - Flask/Elixir
    10. Alchemy/Inscription - Flask/Elixir
    11. Skinner/Leatherworker

Although I do have one alt for each class, I still tend to spend about 95% of my game time on my main. Even when I think of doing some kind of content every day/week on all my alts, I rarely manage to. It's nice to keep at least some options open. But most of my alts lie dormant most of the time.
