@@pradeepmuniandiHow's your experience so far with zv-e10?
I just brought the camera after watching all your videos on it and you had me sold, thank you for the informative videos for us to all learn 💙
Thank you for sacrificing 5+ hours of your time for these tests. You're awesome
It was tedious at times - but I do it for the people!! 🤣🤣
My ZV-E10 is overheating too early, I cannot record on sunny day 26c for 10 minutes, I cannot record in studio for 1 hour, and I'm so disappointed what why I bought it.
go to the toolbox menu (tab 4) click on Power Setting Option and set Auto Power Off Temp. to High. keep your camera on a tripod with the screen open. You should be fine with that.
Nicely done! Thanks for the info. I need a little studio camera with good autofocus that doesn't overheat. I think you convinced me this will work great.

lotta inside jokes. love it. also the 99k thing. perfection!
Haha - thanks!!
Yup. Hillarious.
Ive now tested the overheating of the ZV E10 and unfortunately it overheated quite quickly, although Ive set the overheating temperature to "high". Ive recorded in 4K (100M) in a room with about 77 F (25 C) for about 40 minutes with open display and then I shuts off because of overheating. This really sucks! Ive tested it three times and it overheated every time after 30-45 minutes.
Have I done anything wrong? Do you now a solution for this problem? Maybe it wouldnt overheat with the 4K 60M setting instead of the 4K 100M?
Thank you!
Greetings from Germany!
SuperExtreme
That does suck - 40 mins of continuous recording without much ventilation at 25 degrees is warm for sure - but it shouldn’t overheat like that. Is the camera on a tripod - if it is resting on a flat surface it will definitely overheat faster.
mine overheats at the same rate. were you able to find a resolve?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis mine over hears @ 4k. Same issue. On a tripod ... Not much happy. Also stabilizer sucks!
I've really enjoyed your videos regarding the ZV-E10! Your perspectives on this camera are helpful because I can better understand how it fits my workflow. Other reviews I've watched make it seem like this thing is a cheap knockoff of Sony's better (way more expensive) cameras, but for what I need, this camera fits my use case perfectly. Thanks, and keep up the good work, subscribed!

Hi Mark, mine overheated at 40 min and turned off, was shooting 4k 30 fps 60mm in normal temperature room, temp set to high, I was using it on extendable selfie stick tripod from ulanzi the one that you already reviewed for 20$, i bought the camera new from Amazon😢 should I return it?I also bought a guarantee for it, what's your advice? thanks in advance
Your tutorials and videos have given me way more concise and valuable info and insight into these cameras than any of the other youtubers I've clicked on! God Bless! You deserve Millions of Subs man!
Haha - thanks!!
I was able to overheat it!!!! I think it was somewhat around 90 degrees. 1080p 60fps. took about 15-20minutes of recording for it to turn itself off because of the heat. Lesson learned: keep it in the shade in the summer.
yes - pretty much all cameras will overheat 90 degrees in the sun
Thank you for the amazing content! I’ve continued to watch videos for cameras I haven’t even been interested in because you go so in-depth! What’s your opinion on owning the ZV-1 AND ZV-E10 for beginners? I plan on using the ZV-1 as a pocketable camera for places that I don’t want to lug around like converts, music festivals, sport events, and the ZV-E10 for more stable events and photos such as weddings or places I know that I can take backpacks or a slightly larger setup.
Sounds like a great setup. The ZV1 and ZV-E10 are suited to do exactly what you have in mind
Any thoughts on using a dummy battery for livestreaming? since the camera was designed to continuously charge while the USB type C was plugged in for streaming mode..
Dummy battery should work great for streaming. will save you some time and effort to set it and forget it!! 👍👍👍
I would like to use it as a webcam for peroods of 10 12 hours 7 days do you know if this is gonna hold , i will conmect direct to power ( no battery)
You the man, Thank you Man
what about low light qualities of the ZV-E10 is it any good? Great Videos!
So far - it’s been good. I will do a more in depth test and post the results. but no complaints so far
All modern cameras are very good at low light. Just buy a lens with wider maximum aperture that takes in more light, to bump up the lowlight performance.
But full frame but this but that camera?
Really? 5-10 percent difference won't make that picture/video whoaa better in low light.
Still, focus on the lens..

When I’m filming outside, my camera gets hot from direct sun but doesn’t overheat. I did notice my battery life was depleted sooner, I’m guessing because it was hot out, the fan was blowing longer than usual. I can’t wait to get my Doug, I’ll call mine Zed. Great video. Take care.
Hahaha. well done!!
What about 4k60fps recording? Some youtubers show it overheats like in 5minutes
Ah sry it's the ZVE10 not E1 :)
ahhh mine overheated today and guess where I came hunting for more info.... here. Ugh right in the middle of recording a video. I made three 12 minute videos and it overheated. I saw the orange light come on and I was like what is that??? then it turned off. Only question I have now is did I lose that video? Hoping not. I haven't had any overheating issues with 1080, but 4K.... I was using a dummie battery too. Good to know I need to change the temp settings
yup - those Sony cameras need the high setting. Your footage should still be there even after it shut down.
I just got overheating while recording indoors after 40 mins
make sure internal temp is set to high (you have to change that manually), out it on a tripod with the screen open.
I don’t understand. How is the camera losing battery while connected to power? That’s messed up
It's the case with many cameras, the USBC can provide power, but it needs a top up from the battery for enough power

Guys I would like to know if this camera is suitable for football video recording, it is to film my child the field is small up to 25m
I would actually get the Sony AX53 Camcorder for that. Great stability, great battery life, great picture quality
5:26 why would it overheat if the flip screen is closed? Wouldn’t that mean the screen is off so no heat generating from the screen?
it's not the screen that heats up - it's the body. Heat from the body needs to escape - if the screen is closed - it traps the heat.
What power bank did you use?
4:34 I think they do it to reduce noise on the sensor.
Useful video, thanks for posting. You just saved me the $165 for the dummy battery. Please keep the content on Doug coming. Liked and subscribed :)

Thanks!! Hi from Canada 🇨🇦
Yo! I like your channel. You're entertaining and your workflow is somewhat smooth, I dig it.
I want to get a ZV-E10 and get some lenses but I'm not sure how those would look or work with Catalyst Browse. Have you heard or tried the Tamron ones for APS-C cameras? The 11-20 mm and the 17-70 mm. I would love to see a video of you trying those out with the Sony camera. :)
The Tamron lenses are great and will work perfectly with Catalyst Browse. I use Tamron 28-75 for my A7iii and love it. if I can get my hands on the apsc versions, I will try them for sure.
Thank you!!!
Can you do a overheating test on the Nikon z30?
I did do one in my Nikon vid - but it overheats in 4k after 25 mins and doesn't overheat at all in 1080
I bought the Sony ZV-E10 for Streaming, should I buy a dummy battery or is it enough to charge the camera while streaming? Would the latter damage the battery? What do you recommend please, thank you!
I would get a dummy battery if you are doing a lot of streaming.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis What dummy battery do you recommend?
This one should work well amzn.to/3PtgLnL
It would be good to tested out the highest frame rate. I assume people pay money for this camera, because of its capabilities of 4K and high frame rate. Therefore, they expect it to not overheat on those conditions. We really need to understand better before buying.
I am getting 5 minutes with mine. I think mine is a dud. I have been trying for 2 hours to get even 5 minutes of footage and it overheats. Even at high temp setting. Back to the store it goes
Yes something is wrong - just to make sure, heat comes out through the bottom and behind the screen. So if the camera is down on a flat surface, especially a blanket or couch with the screen closed - it will overheat. If you have the camera on high temp setting and the screen is open on a tripod and you overheat after 5 minutes it’s definitely faulty, unless you are in 40 degree Celsius weather in direct sunlight
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you! I do have it on a tripod. Do you think that is why? The bottom may be blocked off?
@@NataleeHEALS No - if it's on a tripod with the screen open and the auto off temp set to high - you should definitely not get overheating - maybe after an hour or so in a hot room. But 5 mins is not right. Check your settings because you need to select the auto off temp to high. If you just move it to the setting without pressing the centre button, it won't register and will default back to stand temp
Love this! Another real test. Makes me think all the other camera channels get under table money from news media with their sky is falling reviews. I also thank you for using the kit lens to prove a point. I'll likely be attaching my sony 16-55 onto my zv-e10 when it arrives next week but you using the kit lens had more impact than if you had used that 16mm lens that every channel guilts you into believing you have to get. Great lens but I'd feel like a lemming if I got one.
Thanks, Glen!! It’s a really nice kit lens. I considered not ordering, but I’m glad I did. It really works for me in the studio
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis It's a good point. If you need to be at 16mm are you going to see much background blur? Not really but up around 35mm, definitely. When people actually learn how to use their gear, it really is possible to get great results from relatively basic equipment. Another awesome vid Mark 👍
@@KPGuitarStudios True dat!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Side note, I just implied you know what you're doing Mark.... What have I done! 😛
*Watches Mark's ego grow to be as big as Dane Cook 20 years ago* haha
I'm using the 16-55 kit lens on ZV-E10, happy with it. It's clearer at F5.6 sure. Corners? Softer. And this and that. But in general, you won't see anything unless you really look for them. If you frame the picture right, the results are very good on the 27inch monitor. Default Jpeg quality is very nice.
Sure, you can buy another lens to get better low light performance, better cropped sharpness, and other things better.
But this Lens is stabilized as well, compensates for lowlight situations a bit. Fun to use.
Above all, never forget! This is a pancake lens!
This is a lens you can take everywhere and it weights nothing! So It's not even a lens. It's the default form of APSC.
So there is no reason to mock or even compare this lens with others.
It has above average performance in all aspects in a compact form, which already comes with your camera. And it's always with you.
Any other lens? You can still buy and carry them, when you think it's worth it, situational.
The battery does get hot to touch after/during recording 4k… right?
I don’t use a dummy batter, but very likely it will get hot after a while. regular batteries do too
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thank you so much Sir… yes i don’t use dummy batteries either but yea my original battery heats up after 4k recording
My zv e10 just arrived and am learning how to use it ❤
IT DOES NOT DAMAGE COMPONENTS IF YOU SET IT TO 'HIGH'. If anyone just gave it one second of thought, they would realize that if it damaged components, it would be a warranty nightmare to allow the enduser to be able to slowly break their camera. If it burned people, it would be a lawsuit nightmare. If it did any harm, Sony wouldn't allow you to bypass it by setting the internal temp to 'high' IN THE FIRST PLACE. Please use critical thinking people, I know it can be hard sometimes.
Usually when people break stuff, they have to go out of their way to mod/flash it. This is literally in the settings of your camera, Sony software developers put this in there, FOR YOU.
no - it doesn't damage anything on high. I have always set the Sony's to high and it is now Sony's recommendation as well. Anyone who thinks it will damage it is incorrect. Which is why I mentioned it in the video.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yeah, I was agreeing with you, the comment was for the people who even entertained the thought that sony would kill their own cameras.
@@nickfosley2882 ha - ok good - same page👍😀
Fellow RUclipsr here. I'm looking at replacing my G85 with the ZV-E10. I do TV reviews, and the G85 doesn't have enough range to capture HDR brightness or dark level detail on new TVs very well. Can't afford an A7S III yet, but can probably sell my G85 and lenses for the cost of the ZV-E10 and one lense. Do you think the range will be a noticeable upgrade? Also being able to do up to 120hz would be nice for recording motion.
The G85 can get you great footage (I have a GH5 and A G7 and I love them), but it's true it doesn't have 120p for slo-mo. There will be a dynamic range upgrade yes, because the ZV-E10 will allow you to shoot in S-Log or HLG. When you shoot HLG especially you will get more useable dynamic range that you colour grade without the image falling apart. But take it from me - it's a little harder to use the Sony cameras - Panasonic menus, buttons and touch screens are sooo nice. So there's always a trade off.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanks for the reply. I pretty much always do manual settings and do like how easy the Panasonic is to get there. Haven't touched a Sony yet, but I'm sure I'll get it figured out.
I'll probably get it with the kit lense and pick up one or two extra. Generally for my use case I use 16-24mm range on the G85 which has a 2.2ish crop at 4k iirc. Sometimes I need wider as well. When shooting the TV screens I use between F4-5.6 with ISO between 200-1600 depending on what I'm trying to capture. But when unboxing or shooting objects I need under F2 for this room's lighting.
So for the Sony if there is one that gets around 12mm and F3.5-6+ range, and a 16mm F1.4 or so, those with the kit lense should cover what I need.
Thanks again 👍
Thanks for this video. FYI-I just ran my ZV1 in 72 degrees, on a tri-pod, with high heating setting on. At 12 minutes it shut down from over heating. I cooled it, ran it again, and at 13.5 minutes it shut down again. I think I’m gonna return my ZV1 and buy the ZVE-10. Thanks again.
That sounds pretty quick. I don’t have the ZV1 so I can’t test it. Was the flip screen open? And was it in direct sunlight? Just trying to get a gauge
Same issue with my Zv-1 unfortunately. 12 min at best. The issue with overheating starts after 4-5 months and makes it impossible to use it indoors without air or something to cool it off. And since I mostly record indoors definetly I will consider switching my ZV1 to ZV-10
@@divinekataroshie4805 That’s too bad!! Make sure you update the firmware if you haven’t before you get rid of it. Sometimes these things are improved with that.

The rolling shutter is so bad at 24fps, it's not even good enough for taking head. If you set it to 30fps it should be closer to acceptable.
I’m really not sure what you mean by that. Could you explain what you mean by the rolling shutter you are seeing - at what point in the video.

did you set the internal temp to high (changing that setting is a must) and keep the screen open?
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I of course changed the setting to high, however overheating in 4k is pretty much a given at this point unfortunately.

I am interested in buying and using the ZV-E10 to document my field work (conservation/animal researcher).
Each field work session can last 10 hours, so I need a camera that can handle this. Theoretically speaking, if I have unlimited memory and power banks, the ZV-E10 can record forever?
I would probably look into something like a GH5 for that. You'll have two card slots, in case one card corrupts or to do recordings back to back on the two - and it's a workhorse - rugged and likely no overheating no matter how long you go. It sounds like you'd be manually focusing in those situations and the autofocus and lowlights are the only flaws of the GH5
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for the reply. I just looked through the GH5, a little too expensive for me. Anything else you would recommend that is more budget friendly?

I wish I was that lucky :( I was streaming in 4K with this camera with a 16mm 1.4f sigma lens, running on the official sony AC adapter. I unfortunately had it overheat 3 or 4 times during my last stream and shut off. My room gets pretty warm but I've never had it happen with any of my Canon EOS's. Man, I love your style! Thanks so much for the video.
Do you have any experience livestreaming with this zv beast? Would it also be prone to overheat, even when connected to a powerbank? Thank you!
most people who livestream with the zv-e10 are reporting no overheating connected to a power bank as long as the screen is open and the camera is on a tripod
Hello, I am a little confuse. Some people did an overheating test and get results very differents... Why is that ? This camera don't have 1 million options so I don't understand...
I can’t tell you what other people are doing - but I know that if you set the internal temp to high and keep the screen open and put the camera in a tripod - it doesn’t overheat in reasonable conditions
Everything is okay but why why sony selling this camera with all features in low price , any guess , many are saying that they are assembling old parts and selling to sale the stock ...or the plasticky body decreasing price ...how sony is so merciful ..what the mystery....???
They are just being smart - the sensor is still great, and their technology has updated, so they put the nice sensor with new software into a body that didn’t cost them much to make. That way they can offer very high quality footage at a low price, and that gets more people into the Sony system and buying lenses.

Great video. I have a question regarding the power. Can the video be recorded while the camera is connected to usb or dummy battery is necessary? Thank you.
a battery of some kind must always be inserted. You can run it off USBC power and record - but there has to be a physical battery inside the camera
Wow. This video is the definition of infotainment.
Unfortunately my zve-10 is overheating and shutting off when I do podcasts or filming a comedy show. I'm using the 30 mm 1.4f lense from sigma.
I already set it to high temp. control and manual focus and also bought a dummy battery and the screen is flipped out.
I heard that the sd card also maybe adding heat if its not powerful enough for 4k footage. I'm using a v30 card. What card are you using and do you have any other tips to avoid overheating?
that’s too bad. I use a sandisk extreme pro v30 amzn.to/35rRohD
Heat escapes through the bottom, so being on a tripod is necessary - I assume you’re doing that.
so, the only thing I can say is that it might be the dummy battery. How long are you recorded for? my battery lasts 100 mins of 4K recording, so if your podcast is less than that - maybe try the battery??
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Hey Thank you very much for your response! I think you are right with the dummy battery. Can you try sigma 30mm with e10 and post results including 120fps.
I don’t have the 30, but the 16 will be very similar in quality so I’ll have some tests with that.
What is the science behind telling people that it is not damaging the internal components in the short time that you've owned the camera? Seems like a lot of people will need to revisit this channel in a couple of years when their cameras crap out. I'm thinking maybe a competitive brand temperarture gun comparison would have been a better video review of overheating issues.
Sony has no trouble with you setting your internal temperature to high. I've have many Sony cameras for many years all set the same way. It's the first setting most Sony owners change. The camera will shut down long before anything is ever damaged.
You rock bro
Hello, does your zv-e10 have shutter sound in taking photos? I can't find option to shut it off. So that I can save battery
you can set the camera to silent shooting mode. menu 2 page 5. set silent mode to on. This will not save you a ton a battery life. a much better way to save battery is to put your camera into airplane mode - menu 3 page 1 - airplane mode to on

thanks, Tina!! that is very nice of you to say!!
I managed to overheat the camera after 60 minutes in standard mode. the camera just turned itself off during the recording. Wifi was turned on and connectet to the remote software. May this be the reason?
60 mins is standard mode is actually pretty good. Everyone advises (me included) to turn auto off temp to high. This will not damage your camera and it will still shut off if it actually starts to overheat. The only reason Sony seems to have for the standard mode is because they don’t want people holding a warm camera in their hands and potentially get a burn after extended use. I, and everyone I know have used the high temp on every sony we’ve owned with no issues.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thanks for your advise. I just switched to hot 🔥 Mode 👍😆
Sounds great! Got the dummy battery waiting, oh did I mention Doug is hanging out on my buddy's couch? Doug's a bit of a hobo you could say 😛
What's the plan for the next video?
Doug likes to couch surf. next one will be picture profiles probably. or best video settings
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Or how to break your camera in spite? Haha.
Doug, the couch surfing, low-life camera from Sony # shorts haha
Can you try hdmi output at 4k and recording at the same time and see if it overheats?
a friend of mine just streamed for over an hour HDMI out to camlink4k in 4K and no overheat warning at all.
You addressed my concern 100%. Many thanks.
does shooting 4K @ 30 FPS yields the same results, or is the heating issues when shooting 4K @ 30 FPS?
No overheating for me in the same situation
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis good to know that... Still waiting for the camera availability... Hope it will be available soon
