STAR TREK Logical Thinking #43 - False Equivalence (A Fallacy of Inconsistency)

- Educational PSA where Mister Spock corrects some crewmembers after overhearing them employing a logical fallacy in their discussions.
Had NBC decided to teach principles of sound reasoning in the mid-1970's they could do no better than to have the logical Mister Spock do the teaching. As an addition to the the two-dozen or so Public Service Announcements I created featuring the animated crew of the Starship Enterprise, I have created a new series of PSAs featuring Mr. Spock called "Logical Thinking." Using the Vulcan science officer to educate them in proper reasoning is "Only Logical" as he states at the end of each PSA.
Done in the style of Filmation's 1973-75 Animated STAR TREK series.

Seeing Uniblab, the alien from Dark Star and one of the exterminators from Zardoz in the cells made my day! Nice one!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Watch closely as Spock walks by, Uniblab robot from " The Jetsons" and Emperor Ming are both in the brig. Just noticed it. 😄
The Alien from Darkstar is missing cabbage.
Don't forget Twikki and Bender. I can't place the robot on the left though.
I love Darkstar
In these great illustrative examples people recognize their error and endeavor to do better which does not actually happen down on planet Earth.
Well, maybe people are better in the 23rd century?
WOW! At 1:25, Starfleet managed to apprehend none other than Ming the Merciless!!!
they probably think he's just a fancy Vulcan.
Bender from Futurama has a cameo!
And *that's* one to grow on
The Dark Star beachball creature behind Spock makes a note to never have a conversation when he is nearby.
Loved the Easter eggs! I was expecting to see Drone #2 from Silent Running in a cell, charged with terrorism and theft for blowing up Valley Forge and stealing a forest. 😂
Did I see Ming the merciless in one of those cells? That’s totally awesome.😅
Yup. He's there.
It would be interesting to have a series like this using events and dialogue directly from STOS.
Great content. I liked the Easter eggs too, Bender from Futurama ,Twiki from Buck Rogers, Zed from Zardoz ,and a couple others familiar character i can't name locked up
Also Robert the robot from Fireball XL-5 and the big robot Uniblab from The Jetsons.
Wait. Was one of the prisoners Bender? He's standing next to Twiggy/Twiki ? I believe. 2:48, About the third cell passed as Spock walks away.
Yes. The little robots are Robert the robot from Fireball XL-5, Twiki and Bender.
Spock: Spock to Bridge.
Uhura: Go ahead Mister Spock.
Spock: I think I stepped on one of Mudds jellies.
McCOY: Sickbay here report to Sickbay for a once over.
Spock: Logic is a little tweeting bird that smells bad!
Jim: Wtf?
Spock: Herbert Hebert!
Spock: Herbert!
Jim: Spock report to Sickbay!
Spock: Herbert
Jim: Pull the plug on it!
Spock: I let Jones and Mudd out they are me crew! Why don't you come down here and try to do something about it!
I think the Enterprise must be a multidimensional prisoner transport vessel, at least some of the time! 😁
The makers of these animations have a great sense of humoor. iN THE BADCKGROUND WALKING SCENES OF sPOCK i SAW uNI-bLAB, FROM THE kETAONA, ns Bwnswe feom Futurama.
I have learned more from this channel.. Please never stop making them!
Thanks! I have monthly logic lesson videos queued up through May of 2024.
@@CHDanhauser Fantastic. When I have children they are going to be watching these videos as soon as they can understand them. I wish I had when I was a kid. Like I said, I STILL learn a lot from them and am almost 30. Glad to hear there are many more coming.
Let's see Mr. Spock have such a discussion with Bender (2:48).
That rocked , i saw bender and a zardoz guy.
😲 how many noticed in the background there was: Unib-Labb from the Jetsons Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon, Bigfoot, Bender from Futurerama,Twiki from The Buck Rogers TV show and probably some more i wasn't able to make out all in the Enterprise brigg!!!!!!!!!!
Uniblab, Bender and Twiki stood out for me!
That wasn't bigfoot. It was a monster that Maya turned into on Space 1999.
Friend Spock! I can understand why Bender is in the brig. But Twiki? Did he do something to the person who hijiacked his voice in the beginning of season 2?
Thank you for the video.
These videos are great. False equivalencies are not just a single fallacy, but actually one of the three main *categories* of all logical fallacies, as I show and explain in my guidebook on logical fallacies (see banner icon).
Dang, how many people are they holding in their jail?
The Darkstar beachball alien gets my like not to mention Bender and Twiki!
Hopefully your Sub as well. I loved Dark Star. So funny.
💫I love these episodes 🤌
LMBO!!! 2:48 🤣😂🤣
It was only a matter of time for Bender.
Special appearance from ZARDOZ!!!
Yeah!!
And Twikky from Buck Rogers! No-ice!!
Subbed
Thanks!
Wait, they put Cyrano Jones and Harry Mudd in the same brig cell? That can only end well.
My question : What were Twiki and Bender doing, presumably together, as they were in the same cell, that got them incarcerated.
1:25 I don't know who the robot is, but I'm sure Ming is thinking "et tu, my fellow pointed eared friend?" Aww, Delonge even has his pet squeaky mouse!
2:46 is that the killer alien from the 2nd season of *Space:1999* (the one where Mia became a bee and did an Ant-Man and short circuited it from within)? 🤣 Oh, and that follow up! Now I want to see a caper with Bender, Twiki and whoever that other robot is working together.
2:50 I'm thinking it's a vulcan who took things a little too Pon Far.
The first big robot is Uniblab from The Jetsons. The little robot next to Twiki and Bender is Robert the robot from Fireball XL-5. And yes, that is the monster that Maya took the form of in an episode of Space: 1999.
What lunatic would put Harry Mudd and Cyrano Jones in a cell together?!
Are you calling the maker of this series a lunatic? 🤨
@@jasontoddman7265 No, just whatever security personnel who made that decision in universe. : )
@@jamesgasik3424 The Federation knows little about Security anyway. Otherwise the Enterprise D wouldn't have been destroyed so easily in Star Trek Generations. Among a dozen other egregious errors they made over the years. 😁
@@jasontoddman7265 I'll give you that, but I'm terrified of the schemes those two rascals would come up with together while being cellies.
@@jamesgasik3424 Hopefully even Starfleet security has heard of hidden microphones. 🙂
Great job on Logical Thinking, Curt. Are you planning to do the new episodes of Star Trek Animated fan film?
I am working on a new episode now. Hopefully will debut late next year.
Bender and Twiki for the win!!
Yes. And Robert the robot from Fireball XL-5.
Banks are now allowed to charge a monthly "inactivity fee" for accounts that haven't had any deposits or withdrawals in 6 months. I said that's like stealing, because there are legitimate reasons someone might not do anything with their savings and/or checking accounts in a 6 month period. Like being broke with just a few bucks in the bank to maintain the account; a minor who had the account opened for them, but hasn't put anything more in or taken anything out; a college student who paid his tuition in January, and then will add money to it, to pay tuition in August; a retired person just keeping their savings there for a rainy day; someone overseas (like in Iraq) for a year, or someone in a nursing home or rehab center. Heck, even someone in jail or prison is unlikely to make transactions with their bank account in a 6 month period.
The question is whether it's false equivalency? In the example of the space ship, he can get it back if he pays his fees and the spaceport doesn't use the ship like they own it. But in my example, the bank can then use your money as if it were their own.
I wonder what Robert the Robot, Twiki and Bender did that got them locked up in a cell together? 😊
Maybe they were temporarily under the control of an evil Robot Master and needed to be locked up until their circuits could be restored back to benevolence.
If you ever run out of topics.
How about when Spock meets Adam and he Reaches Dr. Severin?
Here is a little switch Spock pays his fees.
Well God Dammit Spock they are both in Jail im pretty sure they are not rationally thinking at the moment!
Is that Bender in the cell ?
Yes it is.
The Easter eggs are cute. Twinkie and Bender in the one cell. Hilarious! Who was the 3rd robot? Shake my memory.
It might be IG88 B
Robert the robot from Fireball XL5 by Gerry Anderson (British) 1962
@@KevinCollins2157 ahh
Yes. It was Robert "On our way ome!" the Robot.
Recognize everyone/everything in the cells except the robot with Twiki and Bender. Not sure what it might have done but I'll wager poor Twiki was framed or caught up by something bad Bender did. 🙂
Nice to see Ming finally in jail somewhere. Long overdue. 😁
That third robot was Robert the Robot who often piloted the Fireball XL-5 beside Steve Zodiac.
@@CHDanhauser Ah. I missed seeing that growing up; I was just a tad too young at the time and its never aired around here since afaik. So no wonder.
I wonder if they named him after the more famous Robbie from Forbidden Planet.
Federation credits Oo?
They obviously had them in TOS.
Logical thinking does not supercede erratic emotional dusturbed gibberish in 21st century earth discourse, Mr. Spock. Earth needs it's current crop of of politicians replaced with logical humans.
So with fictional entities?
Why is Bigfoot in jail?
It's cyborg interstellar Bigfoot from The Six Million Dollar Man. Surprised Stephanie Powers isn't in the visitors lounge.
@@STho205 Actually that was something from Space:1999's second season I believe. I don't recall the exact episode or why it was there, though i think it was probably something the shapeshifting character Maya turned into.
@@jasontoddman7265 wouldn't that beg a bigger question,
Why is Maya in the brig?
Yes, that's Maya from Season 2 Episode 14 "The Beta Cloud." Trivia: that was David (Darth Vader) Prowse in the beast costume.
@@CHDanhauser I suppose Cyrano Jones is still cleaning up Tribbles is why he is being held?
