Great game. Thanks to Steinway Billiards, and also to InsidePoolmag for posting it. I love to see people having fun like this. Clearly Efren was now more used to the table. No offense to anybody but Efren the GOAT.
Efren Reyes, or the magician, did not gain his exquisite and unique proficiency from nothing. He started playing pool since he was 8 y/o and now he's 65 y/o (dated today) which means he has been playing pool for 57 years (born August 26, 1954). Efren has mastered the entire pool table angles, strikes force, unimaginable control and precision on the cue ball, and a very high self-confidence with absolutely no vanity (He's very humble and friendly by the way). Two more things about Efren Reyes, he has never underestimated any opponent, and he has never neglected the calculation of any hit no matter how easy the ball is. God bless Efren Bata Reyes.

The Zion guy hurts the broadcast. The sighs, eating the mic, and the not-perfect english are annoying but him interrupting the other guys trying to speak and shouting their opinions down is actually painful to listen to. So rude.
I like how Earl always says nice things about Efren. In the Earl Strickland Presents series, he narrates and analyzes pool matches. He's always saying "Efren would do this here" or "Efren was the best at these shots." In the 9 ball round of this match, when Earl gets applause for a nice shot he says "I learned that shot from Efren. Half this stuff I'm doing here I learned from that man." It's a special bond you share with the people you battled the hardest and how much you needed them to be your very best.

You rarely see a jump when these two meet up , they'll challenge each other with safeties and work until someone gets away . Beautiful stuff ! There may one day be a challenger to the crown , but Efron and Earl will probably always be the two best on the planet .
Can someone please explain this to me? At 35:31 Earl plays a safety shot on the 2. NOTHING goes in. It was a decent safety shot on the 2 put behind the 5 and 9. I repeat...NOTHING goes in. Why is it still Earls shot?? He shoots twice in a row but didn't pocket anything. I am beyond confused.
Iwant to strangle that commentator that always says “yeah.. yeah..yeah..” he feels that hes the one who always knows everything, wont appreciate or give what could be the best tactical move to do. Stupid man. He shouldn’t return when he left. I hope someone cut his tongue or lips apart!! He doesn’t sound like he knows how to play he doesn’t even talk about cueing technique that the players should do. Imbecile! He just sees where the balls are going but didnt knew technicalities of the game. First time as a commentator. Never get him again!! This is the most stupid guy that people have heard in commentating!! “And now what??!!” Stop coughing!!
I stand corrected, but I'm pretty sure it's because Earl called to "pot" the ball (blue 2) rather than "safety", and then snookered Efren unintentionally. Sort of like a foul snooker. I think Efren has the option to play or send the player back in.
Can someone explain to me what happens at 35:37? Earl plays a safety, doesn't get any balls in, and then shoots again. How is he allowed to shoot again if he didn't pocket anything?
10 ball is call shot and Earl missed and got accidental safe. The incoming player has the option to make you shoot again, and that's what Efren chose. No lucky safes when you miss a shot you called.
I believe that Efrén Reyes has telekinesis when he concentrates on playing well and can dominate the balls mentally, although Efrén must not know that he has telekinesis unconsciously obviously. What is certain is that Efrén Reyes's destiny is to be the best pool player in the world despite the fact that he has lost pool games because he does not concentrate well...

@@Regoriroger must be a special 10-ball rule for this tournament.. I been playing 10-ball since I posted my original comment and that rule has never once come up lol
Maybe Tel Aviv would be a nice place to visit for our commentator who can't stop laughing and snorting and smacking his lips. The UK guy is very well-spoken, indeed.
Earl was penalized for not calling the previous shot as a safety. He called the previous shot into the corner pocket, missed, and left a snooker on the object ball. Normally, this unintended safety is a blessing, but 10 ball penalizes flukes. Efren has the option of giving control of the table back to Earl.
Ty Sell Oh I see. They don't wanna allow any luck or flukes. This will result in more skill and less luck involved. Good rule. Thanks for explaining. Reminds me of another game I saw where they played any miss = ball in hand for the other guy. So that shot would've just been ball in hand for Efren.
Not sure why the commentators keep saying Earl was handing Efren games. Efren missed just as many shots as Earl missed to give Earl the victory and Earl missed just as many just as Efren did to give Efren victory. Were they at bad times? Yes, but both players played very well in this game.
It's amazing to watch these two great players taking on each other they're undoubtedly the greatest in the business but I would go with Efren as the goat because he does things that nobody else can and he does it so easy so effortlessly and he can play under any circumstances I remember his historical comeback against Earl in Hong Kong when he was down by 17 games and won the game what stroke me the most in that game was that Efren didn't give up at all and fought till the end to be down by 17 games against Earl Strickland in his prime and come back nobody can do that
he cheated in color of money, purposely coughing all night when it was earls turn to play. earl is a professional, multiple times champion of the world.
@@useranother667 Hmm... probably the single dumbest comment ever written... well done, at least you're tops at something. 👍 And I'm an Earl fan, but that is pure nonsense.
Can anyone explain to me what happened at 49:20? Efren makes a great safe on the 1 ball, hides the cue behind the 4, but for some reason continues to shoot. It confuses the commentators as well, but they say "Efren called the shot" but from what I can see nothing was pocketed.
It's call shot, call safety. He called the one ball, missed it, and got safe. In that scenario, the incoming player has the option to make you shoot again, and that's what Earl did. If Efren had not called to make the shot, Earl would have had no choice but to shoot.
The Asian/Indian commentator ruined the video. Nothing personal just the accent is annoying to listen to, he cuts off people while they're talking and it sounds like his mic is too close to his mouth.
It's only the shot immediately after the break. Depending on who gets to shoot right after the breaker breaks, that player can decide to "Push Out". That means they get to hit the cueball somewhere and then the other player can decide if they'll take the newly places cueball, or if they'll make the player who pushed out shoot.
What a great game. Thank you for video. Both are superior shooters. Efren proves he has magic in his shots and Strickland shows he knows the table and its possibilities!! Beautiful, again thank you for video!!!

what did earl call effren at 35:47 ?
Quiero ver a estos grandes Jugadores de Pool tantos Masculinos y Femeninoa , como están sus años en su tercera helado, ¿ siguen jugando?
Efren was amazing on this game.I don’t know of no one that can play pool like Efren.
Cool guy and was fun watching his expertise. Thank you
You should watch more pool I’ve seen many better players than efren
@@teddyhaynes9876 you should have seen the old player, Minnesota Fats, Willie Mosconi
Ahh-soo ! 🧐🤓🤠🤮 🤚👳♂️
I want to give a shout out to the commentators for making this great video miserable to watch.
Worst commentators ever
I read this before watching the video Jesus you are totally correct i had to mute my phone
If you think this commentary is bad, try sitting through the entire Efren Reyes v. Mike Seigel match. That's nauseating.
Why don't you give it a shot.. big mouth 🤪🤪🤪
He is sixty years old in this video, but Reyes could still beat the finest players in the world with that level of play--amazing.
The older fellow with the cane looks like he’s fighting to stay awake, around the 1:13:50 mark, while Reyes is finishing a rack 😂
why earl did shoot two shots in row? 35:30 and 37:20
Meysam Farhoudi That is exactly what I was thinking, right after he said a dicky comment to Efron.
I stand corrected, but I'm pretty sure it's because Earl called to "pot" the ball (blue 2) rather than "safety", and then snookered Efren unintentionally. Sort of like a foul snooker. I think Efren has the option to play or send the player back in.
Effren shot twice in a row at 49:20 without making a ball ... Comment or said he called the shot ?????
Can someone explain to me what happens at 35:37? Earl plays a safety, doesn't get any balls in, and then shoots again. How is he allowed to shoot again if he didn't pocket anything?
10 ball is call shot and Earl missed and got accidental safe. The incoming player has the option to make you shoot again, and that's what Efren chose. No lucky safes when you miss a shot you called.
1:44:44 love this shot. and more 2:15:44 , 2:33:33.
I love this non-ESPN commentary. Like sitting at a bar.
Never let zion commentate again.
Every time i tell him to shut-up, I'm taking a drink of whiskey.. bout hammered o'er here lol

What does "Call safe" mean?
Means the player is going for safety.
I follow Earl on here and try to watch his matches.havent seen any in awhile.anyone know if he is playing?I always figured he will die with a stick in his hand.thanks Steinway for posting this match I've watched them all a few times.
3:03 "We've got Jeff Conway and Zyklon B who're going to be in the booth here with me...."
Q
The most-watched pool player of all time is the GOAT no other than. EFREN REYES..
35:35 why does Earl shoot twice here?
good question. I don't get it
Maybe he didnt call the safety shot?
@@81883215 as far as I know, if you call a pocket and miss, it's always your opponents turn in 10-ball. Not 100% though, the rules in 10-ball are a bit unique compared to 8/9-ball..
10 ball is call shot and Earl missed and got accidental safe. The incoming player has the option to make you shoot again, and that's what Efren chose. No lucky safes when you miss a shot you called.
@@Regoriroger must be a special 10-ball rule for this tournament.. I been playing 10-ball since I posted my original comment and that rule has never once come up lol
A great match to be sure. I wish someone else would be making the commentary during the match. I am not a big fan of braying donkeys
Lol
Maybe Tel Aviv would be a nice place to visit for our commentator who can't stop laughing and snorting and smacking his lips. The UK guy is very well-spoken, indeed.
これいつの対戦ですか?
2014年かな。
How come earl got to shoot twice in a row? (around 36:19)
@@tysell7802 thankyou so much for this information. My brain really needed it haha
Not sure why the commentators keep saying Earl was handing Efren games. Efren missed just as many shots as Earl missed to give Earl the victory and Earl missed just as many just as Efren did to give Efren victory. Were they at bad times? Yes, but both players played very well in this game.
It's amazing to watch these two great players taking on each other they're undoubtedly the greatest in the business but I would go with Efren as the goat because he does things that nobody else can and he does it so easy so effortlessly and he can play under any circumstances I remember his historical comeback against Earl in Hong Kong when he was down by 17 games and won the game what stroke me the most in that game was that Efren didn't give up at all and fought till the end to be down by 17 games against Earl Strickland in his prime and come back nobody can do that
mohamed kamal he was down 17? Wow
he cheated in color of money, purposely coughing all night when it was earls turn to play. earl is a professional, multiple times champion of the world.
@@useranother667 You've got to be kidding 😂
@@paullaney3339 how so? i spoke facts
@@useranother667 Hmm... probably the single dumbest comment ever written... well done, at least you're tops at something. 👍 And I'm an Earl fan, but that is pure nonsense.
Changing the table angle viewing so much is distracting !
35:37 I DO NOT GET THIS! Strickland played safe here so the next to shoot is Reyes. Why Earl played the shot again?
And Gail comes to the rescue ! Thank You
I like Gail and Zion as a commentary team
Efren schooled Earl and the commentators too
Can anyone explain to me what happened at 49:20? Efren makes a great safe on the 1 ball, hides the cue behind the 4, but for some reason continues to shoot. It confuses the commentators as well, but they say "Efren called the shot" but from what I can see nothing was pocketed.
It's call shot, call safety. He called the one ball, missed it, and got safe. In that scenario, the incoming player has the option to make you shoot again, and that's what Earl did. If Efren had not called to make the shot, Earl would have had no choice but to shoot.
Z. Good commentary. But maybe less is best. Thanks
The Asian/Indian commentator ruined the video. Nothing personal just the accent is annoying to listen to, he cuts off people while they're talking and it sounds like his mic is too close to his mouth.
Israel
im confused. can some1 tell me y they take 2 shots in a row sometimes?
It's only the shot immediately after the break. Depending on who gets to shoot right after the breaker breaks, that player can decide to "Push Out". That means they get to hit the cueball somewhere and then the other player can decide if they'll take the newly places cueball, or if they'll make the player who pushed out shoot.
