I've never shared this video with anyone, I come back to it time and time again to remind me that there are things worth living for I saw Mark dozens of times over the years, met him a handful, I gave up trying to collect everything he recorded long ago my heart aches tonight
I managed to stick with the collecting. Including the song for a children's book where he was a bear singing about his sneakers. Well worth looking up. Ends in a terrible pun, shows how he was so much more than that dark presence on the stage. I'll miss him dearly.
@@gijswitdouck6929 I never knew where to draw the line, like do you get the Manic Street Preachers album with his cameo? I've got both versions of his Christmas album and was always on the look out for the bootlegs he sold of gigs I was at

I just finished his book. Wow. The shit he went through just to get through those Trees tours made me cry. Especially listening to him tell it in his voice on the audio version 😢
I was so blessed to see Screaming Trees live, and Mark Lanegan with an acoustic band opening for Johnny Cash (Mark stole the show if you ask me, he was that big a giant). Rest in peace, brother.
@@hangingon Definitely historic. It was sold out, of course, and I busked on the street before the show and managed to get a ticket gifted. The magic was flowing that night. It was obvious Mark did not want to disappoint. Have some very clear memories despite the many years...
I have cried like some uncle of mine passed away. Never saw live gig, not even a close to it. But some of the songs mean a world to me. One of the most important persons in my life. Rest in peace, Mark. You left your burdens finally.

I heard this song for the 1st time just yesterday. The footage of him singing it is so real. He bleeds into every line. It blew me away again how raw and Intense that song and he could be. So many gems he has left us.
Totally agree. Endlessly is the word. I'ld like to be able to speak english a bit better, just so I could discuss with fans like you a bit more. Sinds a few years I have seen Mark two times, once in Amsterdam and last november in my home town, Rotterdam. I just love him so much... It's hard for me to express my feelings, when I hear his music. Just hope you understand me, when I say he overpowers me, again and again...
Yeah, I was just listening to him w/Mad Season. At his much younger self, “The Black Book of Fear” being my fav esp.lyricism & velvety rich baritone vocals. “Slip Away” makes me cry every time. 🚬&booze will effect any1s vocals esp.over yrs of using. Set that aside, but as we all age, our vocals get lower. My dad’s vocals, he has checked, are 4keys lower on the bass end. Any1 who trains & takes care of their voice can reach higher🎶, even to the point where 1can B considered a tenor. But if u r Mr. Mark Lanegan, Y would u want 2do that (except taking care of his inst.as much as possible). I haven’t checked, but I wouldn’t B surprised if his lower register is now in bass territory.…w/that velvet sound gives me goosebumps😇❣️
This man just gets better with age. Quite possibly my favorite artist of all time. I picked up the Winding Sheet almost 30 years ago, best money I ever spent!
Of all the musicians that have passed over the years Mark ls the one I miss the most. He never lost his beautiful voice over the years, and I do regret that I never got to see him live.
I never tire of telling people that he has the best voice of all the Seattle bands, and that says a lot when you're in the company of Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder.
@@keithpatrick156 Love Lanegan! One of my favorite voices ever! But none beats Cornell and Staley voices to me! Vedder? never told me much ... even less now. But with Cornell tragic departure ... Lanegan is today best vocalist! No doubt!
@@christar9527 Vedder never really told me much... I mean I like some of his records... but in fact I think he lost himself a little with the glamour and everything that fame brings. Lanegan has always remained true to the roots! You can hear this voice today, with the same feeling as 30 years ago. One of the last rock&roll warriors, such a badass motherfucker, I am grateful that he remains with us, when he could easily have died. His drug problem was no less than Layne Staley... he "simply" chose to clean and take another direction in life. Respect! I don't even put Vedder on top ... I mean there are vocalists even in Seattle a lot more badass. For example, I prefer Jerry Cantrell voice over Vedder... and he not even "technically" a vocalist!

Townes Van Zandt. They all hit it in a different way. Mark Lanegan is new to me and i am at a loss for words. I just experienced this One Way Street and all i can say, honestly, is Fuck. Fuck.
I saw mark with his band last year, and this guitarist with them. Just incredible. The guitarist, Jeff Fielder is quite astounding too. I'm lucky to have seen it. Also met mark and his wife afterwards, not rubbing it in!
man, this brought back some very good memories o Mark's voice. I used to love the Screeming Trees!!!! I loved every song they sang. Really miss them as a band.
one of the most brutally honest songs performed in the best possible way. may the wind forever howl your name. your passion and your talent will live forever in your songs. this song forced me to tears.
Love that he doesn't focus so much on affecting his voice and everything that comes out seems effortless. So many artists now days are focused on trying to sound as genuine and road worn as Lanegan naturally was.

To that vacant fame
Oh the deafening roar
Remember that's called a one way street
