I love this video. I like the fact that you didn't get all high tech and it feels like you are in my kitchen showing me how to make this meal. Awesome video brother.
Thanks for sharing, John. Over the years, your videos ring true with humility, frugality and down home good sense. You are awesome, Dude. And an inspiration for those of us going through adversity, which we all do at one time or another. That's why we're all just common folk when you get right down to it. Thank you. Love to the kids, Martha and especially Lupita.
I didn’t understand why I click on this dudes vids. But after about 200 vids I realized it’s because he is just a regular dude doing relatable things and entertaining at the same time. You can also learn a little something at the same time.
This is very easy to make and that is the good thing about it. If you are having someone over for dinner and want to do a lobster dish without the expense, this is a great way to do a nice upscale dinner for two.
Thanks, Great Vid. I've been making that for 50 years but never knew about the sugar and lemon. Used to catch white bass on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. Clean and then into a coffee can of boiling water and a bay leaf over a campfire. Drain the water off and right into the melted butter to gobble up. Yummy Thanks also for the tip about Ricky Wallace. Got one of the fleshing knives from him. Going to make gar sheath Lord willing this spring. Dave
Love watching all your videos! Great that we have this thing called the internet now LOL I grew up a country girl and always will be so I enjoy and gain a ton of great info from you. Please don't ever stop making your videos. Spring is right around the corner. Can't wait!
Thank you! I looked all over for this... I made it a long time ago, wrote it down... gave it to a friend. I could not remember how much of what to use... Now I can make some again. Ma 2
That's what I like about you. Down to earth, A county boy can survive! We do something like that but use bluegill. once its boiled we chill it with ice and then dip each piece in shrimp sauce. Gottta put your safety glasses on to keep from poking your eye out with the fork. God Bless you brother. Sure do enjoy your videos.
I live in Virginia, and I'm waiting on Spring. Can't wait to go fishing and try this recipe. Just found your Channel. And I like what I see. Thanks so much take care and God bless
You are a wonderful father and husband........and real down to earth person. Is there anything that you can't do? I could teach you how to quilt. Love your shows, Jo Ann
As a person who is deathly allergic to seafood which developed in my 20s this may be a godsend! I loved seafood so much and ate it all the time.. then all of a sudden It nearly killed me. I have missed it so much but I also love life! hahaha I'm trying this as soon as I can get to our fishery to buy some white fish. :-) Thank You!
krista, same with my mom. After years of eating everything, she suddenly became horribly ill to seafood of any kind. Even tiny bits of oyster sauce or fish broth. She underwent sublingual drops with an allergist and overcame this allergy after about 2 years. She had to take weekly exposures but finally built up a tolerance for it. She never acquired a taste for seafood to that great extent but was able to eat pretty much everything after that. Some hope out there if you're willing to go through the trouble.
Never heard of "Sauger" until today, looked it up, sounds good. ;) Thanx for the video, love fishing, love Lobster... We will have to try your recipe someday!! Thanx again!!
I'm a LOBSTER LOVER and I just made this using cod fish. Not to be a wet blanket but honestly this doesnt taste like lobster. It's good mind you. I made it with schezuan spicy fragrant rice. They complimented each other. The lightness of the fish dipped in lemon butter and the spiciness of the rice was yummy. But...Naw. Doing some research I've read other fish you can use for this recipe so I'm going to try it again using either *Monkfish. *Cod * Halibut. *Bass *Haddock (Although never heard of Monkfish) Btw I do enjoy your recipes. Thank you.
Hi! I did use lemon juice from a bottle - it works too, but isnt as good to put over it after it is cooked. I put a bit in the butter i dipped it in...yummo! It works, but a real lemon is always better. Good viddy, it is making me want to try it on other kinds of fish.
I can tell ya...it’s the sugar to sweeten it and the lemon makes it pucker and causes it to become a sweet lobsterish Nugget! Hahahaha IDK! I’m teasing. I just get such a tickle out of your explanations I had to be a “dudetteologist” Just once! It’s precisely your attitude and way of thinking that keeps bringing me back. I appreciate your honesty, your “git ‘er done” and make no apologies for it attitude! Wish more folks thought like you John! TFS...definitely will try...God Bless ~Lisa
come to think of it.. I firm up my catfish by soaking it in 1 part lemon juice to 2 parts water with a pinch of salt overnight. that may help your chunks stop flaking apart. I would try it but I don't have time to get the fish
cowboy said you should not remove from pot till it has floated to top you starting diggin it out when one piece came to top.each piece should float to top before it is removed. still a fun vid
Thanks, I appreciate your enthused attitude. Please consider providing a simple list of ingredients & methods. For example: One Guy's Poor Man's Lobster Cod or Halibut 1/2 Lemon 1/4 cup salt 1 cup sugar lemon pepper, melted butter 1. Fill a large pot about 1/2 to 3/4 full of water and bring to a boil. 2. Add in half a lemon, cut into 2 pieces and the sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Allow the mixture to come back to a boil for a couple minutes. 3. Cut the fish into about lobster like chunks and add to the boiling water. Do not stir! 4. When the fish begin bobbing and float to the top, strain them out and set on a paper towel or wire rack. 5. Sprinkle with lemon, lemon pepper and/or dill seed (optional). Dip in butter- serve warm. Bye
Thanks, John! I am not a big fish eater but lobster is my all-time favorite food. As you can imagine , I don't get to eat it much. I am going to try this with some swai. And if it is good, we'll be eating fish a whole lot more! :)
Yea, your video is back! Got to watch two today! I saw this within two minutes of your post. I hit the like button and then wrote a comment. That's when it all went blank. I hope my like registered. Thank you for videos on your channels?
I've seen this done a few ways on YT and I noticed you didn't add salt to your boiling water, I think it would be better without the salt so I'm going to try it the way you did it.
PML is amazing stuff brother but you have to try it with catfish! A big old catfish, type of catfish one would say not to eat, do it like this and one would eat their words with the fish.
Just an FYI: The acid in the lemon coagulates the protein in the fish and firms it up. Truth be told, vinegar will do the same thing but it won't taste as good as the lemon does. In many Middle Eastern dishes, salt and lemon is used in place of vinegar because it tastes a lot better.
Instant LIKE! I was looking for a different way to cook fish, as I have an unlimited assortment to choose from where I live, Gonna try this recipe today. Want me to send you some frozen halibut steaks? Greetings from Alaska.
Since food is also tasted by the eyes, how about a very gentle fall of mild paprika? Not enough to influence the taste but just enough to give it those pinkishs-orangy speckels?
I love this video. I like the fact that you didn't get all high tech and it feels like you are in my kitchen showing me how to make this meal. Awesome video brother.

I suggest you try freshwater drum next time. The density and texture of the meat can stand up to the boiling process.
tried this today with Pollock and it was so good.my wife is diabetic so I used splenda instead of sugar. so thank you for your time.

I "reverse engineered" this recipe. I used lobster and boiled as directed.
I ended up with boiled Cod!! genius.
Hahaha
shotgun red does same way but adds a lil garlic to butter.
I've seen this done a few ways on YT and I noticed you didn't add salt to your boiling water, I think it would be better without the salt so I'm going to try it the way you did it.
Well, thank you! I will be trying this!
PML is amazing stuff brother but you have to try it with catfish! A big old catfish, type of catfish one would say not to eat, do it like this and one would eat their words with the fish.

Terrific! Thank you!
Food ..... I want some
Dude !!! LOVE IT !!!!
Tried it, used Cod. No flavor on fish, only thing that gave it flavor was the melted butter with garlic salt in it.
Great job
looks great !!
Since food is also tasted by the eyes, how about a very gentle fall of mild paprika? Not enough to influence the taste but just enough to give it those pinkishs-orangy speckels?
Monk fish works good for that.
Good stuff bro...
