There are 3 or 4 different versions of the 4 speed, the 85-86 v6 4 speed, which is the strongest, and works well with many engines, although it has a slightly high rpm at highway speed. There is the performance 84 4 speed, which is 4.10:1 final drive, which I'd higher then the others, gives incredible of the line acceleration (4 cylinder with 4.10 beats a v6 with normal Muncie through 1st gear, until it has to shift and the v6 still has half of first to go), with a lot of rpm at highway speeds. There is the normal 84 4 speed, which is the same ratio as the v6, same rpms, and there's maybe an 84 economy 4 speed, but that might have been considered the "normal" one, lower rpms at cruise, with horribly slow acceleration. All of the 84 transmissions had a non-reinforced case, and the gears are weaker, so even with the v6, it is easier to break something, so don't shift it to hard, whereas the 85-86 4 speed is reinforced, and is the strongest of all Fiero transmissions, still breakable if shifted badly, but can hold V8 torque.
Thank you for making this video & show us how it's possible to get it done. That hydraulic flaring tool you used at 18:14 ... Is it Mastercool brand? What model? 72485-PRC or 72475-PRC?
Just to inform you. That Tran case will break Look at the driver side case where the axle comes out of the case. The V6 case has reinforced webbing. The case you are using is smooth. I have had to replace the trans on a stock V6 that used that case you used. Good luck. Also the gearing that that trans you are using with the wheels you are using is the gears you want. Sooooo Get the V6 case and use the 4cyl gears. You will be so happy you did. It not hard to flip gears from one case to the other.
@@keithhuff7430 thanks for the info. I recently just picked up a 5 speed getrag to put into the car, but driving with this trans all summer I have not had any issues at all, this trans has the 4:10 gears only ever offered in the 84 4 speeds. I am aware it is weaker and maybe I have just been lucky. But it is just a temporary transmission anyways
With the Chevy Cruze with dimensions almost identical to the Fiero, with an F40 and a diesel engine, it would be a conversion that I would do... If I were 20 years younger.
Ok Kyle. How are you going to get reverse lights? Will the car start in gear? I have an 88 GT auto. I do have an 88 GT manual and engine. I am hesitant because of the wiring issues stated above. You and your dad are awesome Are those Corvette hoods I spy on the wall?
I will need to wire in the reverse light switch to the shifter, and the neutral safety switch to the pedal. I need to route the wires from the automatic gear selector to achieve both of those.
@FieroKyle make sure you make that video. There are alot of guys out there that want to make that swap. I think the wiring and the clutch hydraulic line scares them off. Could you list your parts and suppliers in the description so we can get the axles and all that? I think NOT modifying the wiring allows you to return to auto if need be
I’ve already done an engine swap on another car. It doesn’t hurt that bad. Just temporary so I can still drive and enjoy the car until I get enough extra money to do the swap I want
@@kipperbeans I have the 4:10 gears on the 84 first is peppy but manit falls on its face fast. the thing he needs to watch out for is the smooth case can crack.
Nice! Many years ago switched mine with a good friend from the auto to the Isuzu. later upgraded to the F23. Great job, enjoy!
Awesome job, kudos to your dad.. Nice shop.. Keep it up..
Manual LS4 TURBO ❤❤❤
Love to see it. And here I am putting off redoing my burnt out fuel pump wiring lol
super glad to see this. been waiting for the video sense i saw you announced the manual swap
I have followed you on instagram for a while now and this just popped up in my recommended
Been follwing you for like 6 years or so on ig, since way back when i had my fiero. Bout time i started watching your videos.
Now you get to see what crap I need to go through to keep the car alive lol
Well done! Thanks for all the detail and info.
COMMITTED CREW!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
It’s a shame you didn’t just do a 3.8 swap. Nice work though.
Awesome job!
Love your channel homie
Great job!
I want to do the F40 transmission swap.
Great job. Almost makes me want to swap out my auto….almost.
nice nice, i want to manual swap my Fiero too, just started watching but curious to what transmission your going to be using
What are the rims? Who makes them?
I'm literally about to do this dude thank u lol
Hi Kyle, have you ever heard of installing an S10 digital dash into the Fiero?

Thanks!
I had an 84 2M4 with the 4 speed trans. I hated it. My 87 V6 5 speed is way better!!! Hope your's works way better than mine! Fingers crossed!!!

What else did you have to do wiring wise I’m trying to do the same with my gt
nice :3
As an Fiero engine swap guy, it’s difficult to imagine putting that 2.8 back after taking it out.

@@FieroKyle You’re making me want to go Fiero shopping.
Pray it’s not 4.10 gearing. If you are gonna go on the highway. Great for accelerating. But first gear is almost pointless
That’s just my opinion from experience with my swap. Still love it
