I did that same upgrade on my Fiero 2.8 and was really pleased with it. The starter is much smallet only weights half of what the original starter did and turns the engine much better with very little draw on the battery.
I would guess I could find that starter cheap new. But I wouldn't reject a used starter either. I've stopped buying starters and alternators from the parts store though, I get them rebuilt locally after having to many problems with "remanufactured" parts. I do buy new online occasionally, especially for some of the cheaper stuff like ecotec starters that cost $45 new with no core charge.
@@ExtraFungus right for that price it’s not bad. I’ve bought a “new” alternator online from AC Delco and within a month it began falling apart internally and I had to take it apart. I think quality among lots of parts has gone down unfortunately
i accidentally found they bolt up (what happens when you order too many parts for diff cars at once) put the new 88 gt fiero starter in a 3800 swapped fiero and it would grind and made all sorts of terrible sounds n barely turned it over. iirc one starter said 11 or so tooth and there was another option, or it has something todo with the 3800 flexplate vs a fiero flywheel im not sure, was for a 2000 3800 engine. Swapped starters and it was fine, but glad you see you made it work. Also the demonstration on the bad starter was fun to see
I've had a junkyard 3800sc starter on my 86GT for over a decade 🤘, that white early second gen cavalier RS is nice I'd have pillaged parts from it for my daily driver 89 cav 👍
Hope you disconnected the battery before messing around with the starter. Didn't hear you mention it, definitely don't want to bridge the contacts when you're under the car.
I’m really thankful for this channel, imma get a fiero when I can and this content is great to help me but also be inspired to keep it running
Nice, didn't know they bolted up.
Yessir! I found it somewhere on a Facebook post like 10 years old and had to try it. Sure enough, direct fit
@@FieroKyle Lol that's why I didn't know!!

Great information. Loved the junkyard you took us to. I've got to really hunt to find good ones - ones that have cars older than 2000.
This upgrade works for the Duke as well.
Good to know. Thank you for the confirmation!

That Camaro seat fabric is worth a lot of $$$, Kyle. You should remove the covers and sell them on a F-Body forum. 83-86 Camaro Lear Siegler seats.
where did you get the side skirts and the front lip? thanks
Hi! The front lip is off of an early 2000s mustang GT, the side skirts of from an 02-07 WRX and the rear spats are off of an early 2000s civic
First! Legend

@@NavyPanther54 that was the first thing I did yes
After dealing with my starter going out i can tell you first hand, 45$ rockauto and 60 for a performance one (you've seen it on my story)
@@ekho9787 that’s my problem lol, I was looking on advanced auto and the auto parts stores. $246 + core. Yikes. Now I know for the future lol
