Troys transition from a 23 year old British man to a wizard is surprising
Omega-Tech he's not British though. He's from Georgia
Yuki Kitsune maybe he meant Georgia? Not sure where he would get British from lol
Yuki Kitsune whoosh
He was 32
@@blackfireoffire He's from Atlanta, Georgia. Georgia is a country.
Brann is a monster at drums
He's an Octupus !
@@BlankRami but the octopus has no friends 😢🐙
Monster at everything, guy is a great singer and songwriter, even wrote blood and thunder and iron tusk on guitar
It's not even how good he is at drums so much as the fact that he can fucking sing while he's doing it, that's amazing to me
The drum solo starts at 0:04 and ends at 3:32
The drums on this song sound like a study in how to play awesome fills in a sludgy metal band, in the best possible way 😂
❤
The best metal band of the 21st century hands down. Progressive, groovy with a bit of sludge. 0% gimmick, 100% metal.
Mastodon are titans of prog metal, and just metal /rock music in general
hands down
I thought Metal was on its way out in the 2000's. Then someone played Mastodon for me.
Wrong
Bran "I'll add a fucking roll wherever the fuck I please and make that shit sound perfect!"
This is one of my favorite live clips of a band ever. So intense and heavy. Stands right beside Neurosis "Locust Star" from Ozzfest 96 and Pantera "Domination" in Russia.
Pantera is my number one band. Dime and Phil may be the reason the Soviet union fell! Lol . But for some reason neurosis musta slipped through the cracks on me. But damn right I checked there ozzfest performance! Badass! And yes I agree mastodon during the remission , Leviathan, and blood mountain Days were heavy as fuck! Metal at it's finest!
@@flippertheslid3642 repeat
And Venom's black metal live in London xD
Bill is wearing a Mars Volta shirt, and Brent is wearing a Melvins shirt. I love this band.
Mastodon are absolute riff machine - it's baffling how many fantastic riffs they've written over the years. Their music might not be everyones cup of tea, but it's undeniable that they have written some of the most badass riffs in metal, not to mention the incredible musicianship of all the members.
Bill is one of the best riff writers in the business and Brent is just an awesome unique guitarist.
Bill and Matt Pike are the overlords of the R I F F
this is my favourite mastodon live clip ever, so intense, so raw. Shit damn !
Man... if you don't like this you don't like metal.
Fuck that. If you don't like this, you don't like music.
I always tell this to my grandma before she goes to sleep.
You a AIC fan huh sickman?
I seriously can’t take my eyes away when watching this, the energy is fucking relentless
Epic af
I’ve been there since remission
Any performance will Bill helping on vocals is fuckin awesome, hearing him scream on songs like this and fire ants/blood And thunder is glorious
Brann is a time traveler confirmed! He looks exactly the same today!
He'd need to be a time traveller to be able to comprehend those bomb-ass fucking time signatures
Hahahahah
Yeah
Lsd.
And today...... 4 years later again.
No gold tooth bruh
2:07 - Bderp Hinds
***** i think he got some sweat in his eyes
metalehead95 most definitely
It's actually an ancient method of intimidation in which you aggressively blink at your enemies to make them fear your gaze.
wow this made me giggle
When they were young and hungry.
They had plenty to prove and they delivered.
Lots of bands went down the same road. Some last, some Don't.
Blame it on..........LIFE.
Watching this brings me tears of joy. I was only 13y.o. in 2006 when they visited athens alongside Tool. I had no idea who Mastodon was...I year later they returned to support metallica and i remember i was just losing it for the 1 hour set, and there were people around me looking at me like i was mental! From then on they became my all time favourite next to Down!
You my fried have a great taste in music!
Mastodon with Tool would've been an epic fucking show!
These kinds of songs really show the life and power that Mastodon had rushing into the metal world, hell even Bill is giving it full force with those vocals! I just wish he'd push himself more vocally for new tracks, I wanna hear him lead one song.
FalafelWaffleGames Id love to hear that too! When they played this song last month when I saw them, his voice was even deeper and more gutteral. It gave me more goosebumps than at any other point during the whole show!
bill has stated in the past that he doesn't like singing and playing at the same time, because it throws his playing off
Bill just doesn’t like singing, it’s a bummer because he kicks ass but don’t think we will ever get Bill doing leads solely because he just doesn’t like singing much.
@@puppetmaster8551 i think i heard in an interview he said he’d rather do only singing or only guitar, trying to do both makes his guitar skills too choppy.
@@Dicegremlin55 he can definitely do both and so it well but he’d prefer not to. Sings and plays great on mother puncher/fire ants/blood and thunder, even does cleans live on the high road chorus. He’s definitely capable of still doing it really well but I’m sure it’s harder for him than normal especially because it’s probably something he rarely ever practices. Kind of similar scenario with solos as well, he’s an incredibly good guitarist and could easy write and play dope solos but he just prefers to keep jamming and playing riffs and instead let’s Brent handle almost all the solos.
There are no words to describe how much I love that song
A great example of when a band is soooo lethal live, the crowd is reduced to a stupified, stunned, mesmerized state. 😆
No, the crowd doesn't suck. This was kind of my reaction when I first heard Mastodon. I just sort of froze--so blown away by the immensity of what I was hearing that I couldn't really move. They were opening for Metallica. I had heard of them, but not many of the other folks around me had. People weren't really headbanging or going nuts because we were all just taking it all in. But everyone afterward said a collective "holy fuck". I felt sorry for Metallica (as great a set as they ended up playing) having to take the stage afterward.
Makes since why Metallica made fun of Brent when he got the face tattoo.
antobio nabarro haha. Brent makes himself an easy target, that’s for sure!
bah, Mastodon shines in crack in the sky, the hunter and cold dark place. Other than that are riffs without meaning and direction just noise.
Mastodon is great examle of what like high culture metal would look like. It's like not so much about the immersion or the headbanging you get, but more about like the musical brillianc :D
Ki co boy you dumb.
For 15 years I've kept coming back to this video by far the best version of this song
Still coming back
Skill coming back
Bill was majorly fucking pumped playing this, love it !
1:21 Branngasm
Kvng Christian shut up
Bill's roaring vocals starting at 2:56 rev me up every literal day
Ohhhhh my god this is the best mastodon performance I've ever. Seen how is that crowd not an absolute war zone?!
This performance is great. Highly recommend their workhorse performance from the same dvd and also Roskilde 2011 and live in the kpit with Scott Kelly. Those are their best performances imo.
@@puppetmaster8551 “work fuckin’ sucks!” … great performance, great song
I don't know how but I always end up back at this video at some point.
Probably because it’s fuckin glorious
the crowd definitely didn't appreciate the awesomeness that was in front of them. But it was a while ago, they knew not what we know now
Change stand grow
These things you'll never be
Taste your fate
All that you'll ever be
A life love unconditional
A life love
Love unconditional
Chase
Chase 'em down string 'em up
Hate
Hate the ones who bring you down.
Bill's vocals are the most metal thing I've ever heard in my life
Drumming under appreciated here. I got this on DVD with a magazine when I was a fat long haired 14 yo drummer and I was blown away by how the toms bounced up and down as he filled, beating them
And him on the ride cymbal fuck me I love him
Brann is a god, one of most fun drummers of all time to listen to.
God I miss this mastodon era :(
Dude, that snarl at 3:27 was fucking monstrous for Mastodon.
brutal and majestic
I remember being in the very front of this show. Man, that song made me fall in love with their music!
2:08 Somewhere a parallel universe implodes and Brann's spidey senses kick in
It wasn't the spidey senses that "kicked in" :)
DoesNotInhale *brent
they are almost playing at double the speed haha still sounds fuckin raw tho!!
Kinnzie Martin nottttt double the speed at all
CStubbsSubs I was exaggerating lol they are playing it fast as fuck compared to the album version
@@Thevitamindealer it’s not that fast, pretty much only 12 seconds shorter. It sounds amazing too
@@puppetmaster8551 you might be surprised how many bpms you would have to add to shave off 12 seconds, I was exaggerating for sure though
The brutality of early Mastodon is so giving.
badass duo guitar!
Gotta see it live...dueling guitars is EPIC!!! LIVE!
Mother of fuck, what a monstrous performance \m/
Too bad there isn't a video in HD, the camera angles on this are badass.
Just. . . The dopest of songs. This video is what originally sparked my interest in Mastadon.
i can´t descripe how awesome this is .. thes guys are fucking monsters i love this band
Monsters, you said it. Their growls actually harmonise in places.
Everyone is in their own world during this song, THEY LOCK TOGETHER SO WELL
Bills back up vocals > Brents back up vocals
hhahahahaha bill is a secret weapon
But like. That was back when brent didnt have shit screams
Brent sounds really good on the first 4 albums
I'd really like to hear more bill focused vocals overall.. It's the next progression since Brann got his vocals onto so many songs ;)
@@stiggyyyyy But doesn't Brann only do clean vocals?
Man, I can watch this performance a million times and it never gets old. An awesome song. Awesome vocals, awesome guitar, very passionate. Just epic.
God these guys are ruthless.
Fucking love Mastodon.
This is the song that got me into Mastodon and I'm glad it did
this will always be the most "fuck yea" Mastodon song for me, of course they're prog deities but this heavy in your face shit from their proggy hands was my ticket in.
Shit is a masterpiece, still in their setlist today also which is great to see, just saw them on their most recent tour and this shit was glorious to hear.
Look at this energy presence by all of them compared to their later (more recent) live shows. It's night and day. What 10 years can do to you. Dream jobs can become... just jobs.
46n2ooL I think they just got older and had to slow down. They still seem to really enjoy what they do, and the music that they make.
46n2ooL Don't forget copious amounts of alcohol and drugs.
46n2ooL i saw them a month and a half ago, holy shit, its just your opionion man but i disagree with it
+Daniël Kortekaas I take back what I said, these guys could lay down on the stage all set and I wouldn't mind it one bit. Mastodon is just that incredible.
Everybody burns out. I've been playing in local bands for 15 years. I don't have the energy that I used to. And the music I write isn't as aggressive and angsty as it used to be either. It's just a part of growing older.
THE track I would want to see/hear them play live, period.
It’s so glorious to see live
I think that drumming is gonna bring the whole fucking stage down!
My Ol Nessie 240p, how i missed you
wtf is that thing on drums
An amazing drummer.
a machine sent from the future to rape drums
A manifestation of god in a drummer form
It's a ten-armed-octopus-god
Brann fkin Dailor!
The best 240p video ever
Bill's backing vocals > Brent's, but Brent's lead vocals >Bill's
? Bill hasn't done any lead vocals.
Evan S That's the joke.
One of the best live performances of a song by any band ever. I used to watch it many times on Workhorse chronicles DVD every fucking day when i was at school.
still my favorite song besides "this mortal soil" by them
I was just introduced to this band, was just browsing around and I’m glad I found them. Changed my taste in music 🤘🏽
We need more Bill on the mike!
This right here is the video that got me into Mastodon back in 07. Thank you man
So fucking baddass...
This is my favourite Mastodon song, it blows my mind, all the instruments are master class in this song. Kick ass
Bill needs to get back to screamin like the good ol daze.
I'm english and i would be fkn embarrassed if i was there and hardly any headbanging going on, i would be going mental.
This is the heaviest thing that has ever happened
Brann is the most criminally underrated drummer ever.
he good
At 2:04 it looks like Brent's head is on backwards
LOL yeah :D
killer sound
that crowd was bloody awful
The loudest they got was at the end of the song.
Always gives me chills.
INFUCKINCREDIBLE!
where was this shi.t crowd, its important to know
city please
MrAndiconda MrAndiconda
Probably Montreal. Buncha French Canadian fucks.
wesclev83
It says at the beginning it's in Germany you moron.
Normally Mastodon only gets shows where they're supporting some band that's bigger than them, so you'll often see them playing for crowds that are there to see someone else and just don't appreciate them.
It's tragic, really.
this is a festival, this was back in what, 2005 ? In complete daylight, this means probably not a lot of people knew their music before the show.
This is one opf my fav vids in utube, watched dont know how many times, the best moment for me is from 1:05 , Brent walks towards Bill so they can play toghether that sick part, and the camera jumps from their backs to the front, and then bounces to the back. You cannot plan that!!! Freaking awesome perfomance and very inspired camera work!
Why do I feel like they could hit some bombass gutterals?
Nagol Relwof they can't
CStubbsSubs Those are Bill's gutturals you here in the background.
Every time I watch this it brings the hair up on the back of my neck. It's friggin awesome How the crowd can be so passive is beyond me!
When Mastodon were really great...
Hurto Ravez LOL!
Hurto Ravez Heer, heer!
+Hurto Ravez I saw them live lately, they're still really great
+Hurto Ravez I agree Remission was spectacular, but what about Crack the Skye? Probably my favorite album of all time. And the drumming on Blood Mountain is incredible. Mastodon has no bad album, each is awesome and unique.
+Ryan Marr I love bands like this wich always evolve and bring somenting new in all their albuns like Mastadon, Coheed and Cambria, Tides of men, Trivium (unitil 2011), Tool, The Mars Volta, Perfect Circle, Rush, DT. I just fucking love bands with "prog style" in their sound
One of the best live i have ever SEEN.
Bill >>>Brent
Man, look at this crowd nodding their heads and enjoying the music, not beating the crap out of each other... The nerve of them!
Dude! Brann Dailor looks the same in 2005 as in 2025.
One of the few titans of metal.
I love how when you search for 'mastodon mother puncher' this comes up before the studio version. This recording is better anyways :D
This video is the true definition of Metal Music. No questions. Straight. Period.
Still my favorite opening to any mastodon song ever, that riff tears mountains down
Man watching them Live is pure Awesomeness.
One of mastodon's absolute best songs.
think of it as them just showing how much mastery the have over music. slow songs full of groove, fast songs filled with crazy ass riffs and sick screaming, these guys can do it all
This was my "It" song with metal. I'd seen a bunch of local bands do Metallica and Ozzy Osborne covers, but the first time I heard this song was an absolute revelation. Still probably one of my favorite songs to play on guitar
Holy damm one of the Best Mastodon songs, Freakin amazin....
So.Effin.Sick!
If i was in the crowd i'd be doing the exact same thing. Standing still in awe.
the screaming sounds awesome love there old and new stuff
I saw them live in August and they sounded flawless.
No matter how many times I play this incredible song, it's never as seemingly easy as they make it.
I love how Mastodon pulled a real, "Well, I guess y'all aren't ready for that yet - But your kids are gonna love it!"
I saw them in Monterrey, Mexico last year in a small venue with like 500 people, It was insane, We meet them after the show n they said that the whole place was going crazy. oh, n they are the coolest/most modest guys
Who's craving to watch this in 2021 after having listened to "Hushed and Grim" ? Been wathing this live since 2006 and it does not get old
"Hate the ones who bring you down" Amazing song, amazing lyrics by the best metal band there is now. And it's taken from one of the best debut albums ever made, "Remission". Some of my all time favourite songs are from that album, "Workhorse", "March of the Fire Ants" and off course "Mother Puncher". Mastodon revolutionized metal as we know it with "Oblivion". Mastodon recieved the metal torch by James Hetfield himself, and they truely deserved it.
favorite song from theese guys! ; )
Greets from norway
Such an amazing performance
I just found out about these guys recently. I gave up on heavy music when I was a teenager since nothing good was coming out. These guys are badass!! It's good to see a heavy band with true talent.
What a powerful performance.
At the Buffalo show on Saturday, the crowd was helped fucking captive by Mastodon. No moshes to speak of - we were all in awe of what we just saw. And this was with all the older, gnarlier Mastodon songs they played after Crack The Skye in entirety
you took that sentence out of my mouth ... :D
their great !!
