Mr Allen.. I truly enjoy your teaching and your presentation. Been playing since I was six and am now 70. Not the greatest, but not shabby either… a frustrated rocker but your videos have helped me immensely in a lot of songs I would not normally listen to or try to play… I hope you continue to give us the same continued excellent instruction… thank you again for what you do,…John Nelson
One of the first songs I learned on guitar way back in the 1700`s! Seriously it is. And as many of you might know, it is a blast to crank out at a gig. My first band had it on our category , we would play it if the vibe was good. Simple yet funky tune.
You sir are a great teacher. You show things that let me see which strings and frets you are playing, unlike some online teachers. That makes all the difference. Some of them look like they are covering more strings than they are. It becomes apparent pretty quickly but as a newer player, you make it easier.
This is great! I was a pretty strong player in my younger days but life happens and Mtv never came knocking so I had to get a day job, the kids happened..now my oldest wants to learn and I've developed many layers of cobwebs! This definitely helped to knock some of those loose! Thank you!!
Perfect , as all your lessons have been - Thank You!!! I started playing guitar 4 years ago at the age of 55. moved to intermediate thanks to lessons like yours - touching on all my favorite bands/songs of the 70's and 80's keep em coming
Your picking hand is so smooth a fast. I have elevated my playing trying to copy your technique. Picking depth is such a game changer! At least for it was! Great lesson!
Thank you! I busk at the (Boston) Garden and Celts may be Champs in a few hours. An ROSmith kille kut. Somehow I never learned this solo. I met Stevie Tyler at a record shop in Manchester NH in 9th grade. 1979. My friend was wearing an Aerosmith T Shirt 😅 Everyone else was playing video games next door. He comes up to me, an absolute Aerosmith fiend, because he thought I worked at the store! He was looking for an obscure blues record. This is my first brush with greatness, but for me this was "greatest". No way, that isn't....? He was a little cat and I noticed a tattoo on his arm that read "Ma Kin". It was him! I handled pretty well and actually said " Sorry Stevie we don't have that record" Trust me they didn't. The real workers were behind the cash register in awe going "Is that Stevie?...." I go of course it is and ripped paper and pen right of the counter. He was riding a taxi and my friend and I bolted out. We were smart and didn't blow his cover. I asked if he'd sign. No problem, We scored got one of our heros' autograph. Very cool! He went "Nice Shirt" to my buddy Somewhere on RUclips is a demo recording of this song from 1971. It's is absolutely outrageous! Somehow better than the record version. Thanks again for this clutch lesson. You nailed it as usual!!
I loved the way you presented this. It's a song that was covered by GNR and I had completely forgotten about it. You video caused me to immediately add it to my Songster Favorites. Thanks man!
Love this ! I remember working on it back when. I didn't know musically what I needed to know to get it down. It was fun trying though ! Now I need to see if my older hands can catch up. Cheers from Toronto !
Yeah, I don't know exactly what Joe was thinking here. All the notes match up to Dorian, which is perfectly fine to play over a blues progression, but one can also look at this as mixing up major and minor as well.
Mr. Allen… I notice you seem to pick songs with good chord progressions, which give players like me a chance to make a song sound very good without being a great lead. A song I haven’t been able to find instruction on is” Like No Other Night” by 38 Special. It incorporates a great intro, good chord progressions and relatively easy soloes. I think it would be a great song for you to teach for us mid grade guitarists . Really appreciate the work you put into this… John Nelson
Thanks man, I can be lazy now, Thanks for not being a total beginners lesson. (Not bashing beginners lessons just some are so basic). I like how you kept moving and showed the solo.
One of my favourites to play along with somebody off the first album!Loved the breakdown 🙏 Always struggled to replicate the exact recorded track tone but this sounds super crunchy! Any specific settings you’d recommend to dial in for the tone?
If you slow the track down you'll notice that the triplet/sextuplet in the opening solo isn't actually an C# B G. but a C# G E. Since this is played against an A Major, I think this makes for a fragment of a Mixolydian scale. If it's played there at the position at the 12 fret, then I'm guessing that it's played as almost a 3 string sweep. Difficult compared the simpler C# to B pull off. Not criticizing your performance here, sounds great. I think there was a studio guitarist that actually played this on the album. Aerosmith never plays this opening lead in any live footage that I can find. I love the tone on the original album as well, it's an overdriven, but not too much, boxy sort of tone. I recall reading someplace that it was a cranked Twin. Sorry I don't have references .
The heroin substitute, known in the illicit drug culture as "Ts and Blues" was a combination of pentazocine (a synthetic painkiller market under the trade name Talwin) and pyribenzamine, a common antihistamine found in many over-the- counter medicines

It's one of my favorite Aerosmith tracks. I like how he shows the normal speed and then slows it down as he explains. Great lesson.

"Joe Mama"....lol....I love it!!! Excellent lesson.
Stop reading my mind Kelly...I listened to it 3 times earlier today...Fun song to play...
Would absolutely love to see you break down the entire first album. Yes they are all relatively easy but think it would make a great tutorial.
YEAH! Ty man! Always wanted to cover this! Dabbled with it in the past, but this lesson will help me get it done! TY!
Great choice, great lesson !
Cheers, thanks!
Awesome! Thankyou. Looks like E Major and parallel E Minor keys.
Yeah, I don't know exactly what Joe was thinking here. All the notes match up to Dorian, which is perfectly fine to play over a blues progression, but one can also look at this as mixing up major and minor as well.
Just added this to my to do list for the summer. Thanks!
Awesome tutorial, awesome song! Thank you, Kelly Dean!
You're so welcome!

Great help, thanks.
Could you please do a video of SPACED ?
He sounds like the guy inbspinal tap that said "currently residing in the where are they now category"
I'm so happy to see no political statement stickers on this lesson! ❤
Please do Milk Cow Blues?? Please?

@ShaneMcCrae Traynor YCV 50 actually. Kick ass amp

... back in the day, we had to learn all this by ear...
I still do personally.
...in contrast to kids these days is what I meant...
Wow !!!!!!!
Living out your fantasy, sleeping late and smoking tea
Evh is fun music to play
By GNR?
On the very end, I think Perry is just playing an E9 on the seventh fret.
Possibly, I wasn't 100 percent on that.
Well you were 100% on the rest of it. Nice job!
👍🍻
What is smoking T ? Tea ? Tee ? I feel like I’ve missed out on something in life.
