    • @nomadicdramatic2496

      Mix up the training sessions! You'll be surprised how many tricks they can learn at once 😊 He's getting his paw out because that's what he knows as his routine. Sit, then paw. Changing the routine of tricks will make his brain work and that releases lots of endorphins for them and makes them feel good 😊👌

      with our dog, she just automatically assumes we want her paw when we try to teach her a new trick. I was teaching her the basics of retrieval and leave it today (she's deaf so I had to figure out the best way to teach her to leave things alone since I can't just shout "leave it!!" if she picks something dangerous up from the other room) and she kept trying to do shake whenever she was frustrated or didn't know what we wanted

    2:15 High five Just put your hand in that position and reward when your dog’s paw touches your hand
    2:32 Wave Same thing but slowly increase distance apart
    3:57 ring a bell Put your hand on top of the bell and reward when they ring it
    4:38 Press a switch same thing put your hand in front and reward when they touch
    Notes
    Remember to keep practicing only reward this behaviour when you ask for it if you don’t want it to happen otherwise and add the command once they offer it.

    People teach their dogs shake or paw by waiting for the dog to paw your hand for the treat, but I find saying paw and lifting the dog’s paw and saying your command and rewarding it a lot faster and easier. Eventually they will do it on their own.

    I have a beagle who is very stubborn. He listens pretty well inside on a leash but I live on a busy road and I cannot get him to come or stay on our property. I am so afraid he'll get ran over or worse. So whenever he gets loose at least 5 cars swerve to miss him. When he is roaming free it is like he is in a different world. Zak, please make a video about how how to train stubborn dogs like beagles. PLEASE

    • @lazypuppo
      @lazypuppo 6 лет назад +17

      Gabe Kappen If you don't want to stand outside with your dog on a leash and you don't want to use an in ground electric fence collar, then get a metal corkscrew to put into the ground and attach a long line to it and put your beagle in a harness and attach the long line to the harness so your dog can run around safely outside and play and sniff and not be endangered by running out into the street. Off leash training takes a lot of work and even then you still should attend your dog outside when they are off leash.

    • @pwnlogic361
      @pwnlogic361 6 лет назад +2

      I already a metal corkscrew to put into the ground and my beagle uses it but it just kills me to see him out on a chain. I want to find a way to teach him to stay on our property so he isn't dragging a chain by his neck

    • @Bellencer
      @Bellencer 6 лет назад +6

      Don't let him off a lead when he's outside unless the area (including your yard) is completely inescapable.
      Honestly though, I would hire a trainer. Scent motivated dogs such as beagles usually will never be reliable off leash unless they're ecollar trained, but that isn't something you should do without an experienced trainer present. Even then, I wouldn't leave him unattended if the yard is easily escapable.

They also have a soul a spirit who makes them who they are just like humans. They have feelings, get upset and get thier feelings hurt. Just because they cant speak English dosent mean they dont understand. Thank you for your video. My mini Australian shepherd can do alot. I swear hes at least half human. He knows close to 100 English words and can do many tricks to. He has a signal if hes thirsty to let me know. He puts his paw towards my water bottle then gives one small bark looks at me and then at my water bottle. That's if we are outside somewhere. He did that on his own. Dogs are amazing!!

    • @thomashines3429
      @thomashines3429 6 лет назад +27

      In case Zak doesn't reply, maybe I could help.
      First inspect the dogs mouth without the brush for a few seconds at most, then reward. Build it up until they trust you with their teeth.
      Then introduce the toothbrush. Put it on the floor in front of them and reward when they show interest. This will help the dog trust the toothbrush.
      Now combine the two. open the dogs mouth as before, but this time touch their teeth with the brush for a moment then reward. Build up slowly until the dog is comfortable with a full brushing action.
      Don't bother trying to brush straight away, they'll be confused and resist. The trick is to push them long enough to learn, but not enough to where they resist. If they do resist when you try to touch their teeth with the brush, allow them to retreat and hold the brush there until they come back to inspect it. Once they do, reward them and start again.

      I bought a mint flavoured one. My pup is doing well with it. But big one, she doesn't even try to taste it. Dunno if chicken flavoured ones come. Bcz that's one flavour i can say she likes most. Thanks for the suggestion.

      use less interesting treats. try a kibble. there's fruits and veg dogs can have as well.
      my dog is almost 5 and kind of has this problem, i've only had her a year though so we're workin on it. she's gotten a lot better and i can set biscuits on her nose, only ones she won't pay attention for are the fishy ones so they're for special situations haha.
      you can take advantage of it too. my dog doesn't like to roll over naturally but if i can get her really locked onto a treat she'll lay on her side in desperation, then i lead her nose towards her tail and then back in a big circle.
      also good for "up" and could teach her to catch them out of the air. my dog does really well with the salmon treats, she doesn't catch the others at all because she glances back at me for instructions on what to do with the fallen treat haha.
      good luck, aw puppies are such adorable buttheads

      RebecaEmpire Empire when your dog has to be alone for 8 (!) hours....DON'T get a dog.

    • @Bellencer
      @Bellencer 6 лет назад +9

      It's not fair to leave a dog alone for 8 hours a day. You seriously need to think whether you can provide the hours of exercise, playtime and training that a golden retriever is going to require. If you're at school full time and your parents work, the answer is most likely no.
      If you do have a spare few hours a day and can hire a dog walker/sitter to come in during the day so that your dog isn't alone for 8 hours then maybe get the dog, but you have to put the needs of the dog above what you want.

    • @francescamaria87
      @francescamaria87 6 лет назад +6

      Rzepy 310 That's an unfair statement. The majority of people living and working have to leave their dogs for at least 8 hours a day. I adopted a puppy and she gets lots of love before and after work, but I have to leave her for about 9 hours. She is also very well trained and house broken. So what? Only people who work from home can have dogs?

    I dont know why u bring in dogs who already look too well trained..i cnt even teach my dog to sit...the method you gave of taking the treat close to his nose and then making him sit....my dog just jumps for the treat..please bring in dogs who arent trained...

    • @Bellencer
      @Bellencer 6 лет назад +35

      Most of his puppy basics videos have dogs that aren't trained yet.
      For your situation, hold the treat closer to the dog's nose and be patient. If they jump/paw at it/bite at it then close your fist around the treat so they can't take it. Wait until they stop trying to grab it and slowly move the treat above the head so that the bum goes down. If you need to, use 2 fingers to gently push the bum down and reward immediately when they sit.
      Remember to have tired the dog out before training as a hyper dog isn't very easy to treat.

    • @youtubepasserby8339
      @youtubepasserby8339 6 лет назад +3

      Really, it's gon be different for every dog. It was so hard to teach our previous dog how to sit and I didn't know how else to teach him. Then I realized it's because he just wouldn't sit on hard surfaces, and I figured that out and trained him to sit on the couch and the carpet instead. And our puppy right now is fine sitting anywhere. Even Jenna Marbles' dog is like that, wouldn't sit on hard surfaces. So that could be why you can't train your dog to sit. Sometimes it makes me wonder if they have butt problems but Idk

    • @travislongmore7797
      @travislongmore7797 6 лет назад

      You can add leash pressure to help teach the sit to the dog that backs up with the treat above the nose. Also you will be able to get a better sit this way. Have a leash on the pooch, slightly pull ( not jerk or tug) the leash forward and up as if its 45 degrees or in a straight line of the dogs spine when he is sitting, and have a treat in your hand so you are still luring you dog into the sit. As the dogs opposition reflex (i slowly push you, and you lean forward with out even thinking about it) as the dog leans back, push with two fingers on his but down. When he sits,treat him and make a big deal and do it like 5 to 7 times over and over again. I wouldn't doubt that just after 5 times of that you could just hold the treat and the pooch might sit right then. once fido has this start adding the command to it right before the treat lure. the dog will anticipate what is going to happen, and he will sit.

      @anniecats101 6 лет назад +2

      RUclips Passerby Yeah lots of little/toy dogs like chihuahuas won't sit on hard surfaces ever lol. I have a lab and a chihuahua and the lab will sit pretty much anywhere. Where as the chihuahua acts like she doesn't remotely know what sit means at all on any hard surfaces.
