  • @roseychicka2298

    I did this but funny thing is that when he's excited he still wags his tail!

    • @roseychicka2298
      @roseychicka2298 3 года назад +4

      What I did was start w the down, help tip like you did, then I make a gun shape w my hand and use my fingers to help his face go as well. Sometimes if he doesn't do the full thing I wave my "gun" fingers over and he already knows it means he needs to lay his head back too. It's funny watching this after, basically that's also what you're teaching so I'm happy I did it right!

    It’s no secret by now that I enjoy your videos and appreciate the time and effort you put into making them but I wanted to share that you seem like a lovely human being. You’re a great teacher and a very happy teaching style. You clearly love your dogs and I can see the relationship between to you, which is super important! I’ve been an R+ trainer for 24 years (Australia) and just stumbled on your site and I watch your videos when they appear in my feed because we ALL need to keep learning, no matter how long we’ve been training or how many thousands of dogs we’ve trained. @DoggyU  Год назад +1

      LOL they are not calm doggos (they only play calm dogs on TV lol!). They are high energy working and herding breeds. But for certain dogs it's really helpful to take them on a nice hour long sniffy walk before starting training. And be sure to keep training sessions short. If they aren't listening to your cues, it's them telling you that they don't understand them and you need to train them further. Make it fun and keep it short.

    Hi there, I know this is an older video but I'm hoping to get a response. My dog is doing excellent with tipping, we've had 3 or 4 sessions roughly 10 to 20 minutes each and he's at the point he will tip each time I say bang and bring the treat around and over his head, but using the verbal command and the gesture of the gun alone won't have him tip. He seems to be stuck associating the action of tipping with my hand going over his head instead of the gun and verbal command. Is this something that more practice sessions over the next few days will help with? I'm following everything to a T. He is an older dog though but he's highly intelligent, I just feel I may have dumb something wrong to where he's associating tipping with movement over his head more than the command itself

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  2 года назад

      Learning the cue can be really challenging for some dogs and takes lots of repetitions. You're likely not doing anything wrong, just need more practice. I would do a 2 minute session twice a day for a week. Also make sure you're giving the verbal cue and finger cue a second before you use your hand to roll over his head. He will get it eventually, will likely just take time. Make sure the sessions are short, and if you'd like me to review video of your training and give you more specific pointers, check out my patreon page at Patreon.com/doggyu. Happy training!

    Any insight on when to introduce verbal cues? I have read a lot of conflicting things and it seems like you introduce pretty early , let me know what you think!

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  8 дней назад

      It depends if I’m shaping or luring. If I’m shaping, I wait until I have really nice behavior loops. If I’m luring and I know I can make the behavior happen, I’ll tend to introduce them earlier. But it depends a bit.

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  2 года назад

      Spend some more time getting him comfortable with tipping the hip. Be sure he's on a soft surface like a dog bed or a couch, and move through slowly. Take any small little step towards your goal of the flop. That could be a head tilt, a muscle movement, etc. Just break your criteria for reinforcement down really really tiny to get to the next step, and reinforce heavily :) Happy Training!

    I have two mini-Doxis. Their legs are 2’ long . You lower the treat to the floor and they can reach it just fine. Lying down doesn’t happen.

    • @DoggyU
      @DoggyU  4 года назад +2

      So to do this trick, you do need to teach a down first. For little dogs you can build a bridge by sitting on the floor with your legs in a bridge. Lower the legs as low as needed for the dog to need to get on their belly to get the treat under your legs.
