In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

If I had a nickel for every time a contestant failed to make a rainbow despite being the only one able to see the colors, id have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's still weird that it happened twice.

Maybe it’s a result of her missing two studio shows but it is absolutely tragic how underrated Katy is.

It's funny because that's how I learned the rainbow as a kid 😂 and all their ways seemed so weird to me LOL

I learned Roy G Biv from Flash comics when I was a kid in the 70s. Roy G Bivolo was a supervillain.
Katy Wix gives off the impression that she could be Cinderella, _and_ the Fairy Godmother, _and_ the evil stepmother, all at the same time.
This is literally so accurate that I’m just going to be thinking about it every time I see her now 😂

"In the world?" is still one of the funniest questions ever asked. And everyone else's reaction as David continues to look confused is just utterly magnificent.
Its deffo top two along with kerry asking what if they fall off the stage blindfolded misunderstanding the task and then what followed with jessica knappett
@@SwallowPollo made all the more glorious by Jess pretending to teeter along the edge before actually falling off the stage. I wasn't sad that Kerry won because she is the bosh queen, but I would have loved to see Jess win it too!

My favourite bit from the episode
Maybe this is common on British TV, but I love the way that Greg Davies contemptuously announces the commercial break with “Let’s see what tat they’re peddling this time!”. It’s almost diametrically opposite to USA TV where product placement and sponsorship often disguise where the program stops and the ads start.

Me too, I'd rather see "I know you don't like ads but they pay the bills so here they are" than some sneaky bullshit like "I'm just gonna inconspicuously take a sip of this amazingly refreshing name brand soda, make sure the logo's visible on camera"
OMG YES! I worked in radio and used to announce commercial breaks scornfully for comic effect and the owner of the station called me on the phone and reprimanded me for "insulting" their advertisers! He didn't even allow me to say "more commercial free music" because it implied that commercials were a bad thing. Oh, I hate Corporate USA!

they're more open and honest towards the audience, instead of american TV adverts which is "in your face but let's pretend it's not *wink wink* they wouldn't notice, they're idiots" kind of deal
(also, american TV doesn't have that much comedy panel shows if i remember, so the formula doesnt really work even if american tv does it, since most of their shows are "really serious")

It makes sense. Especially when you get a huge international fan base. Better you get some ad money on RUclips then other people upload it to RUclips and you get nothing.
I love that Ed, James Acaster and Nish Kumar all have the school children vibe with Greg but Ed changes the game by being the favourite pupil instead of an unruly one

@@SennaAugustus there IS pink in rainbow. Rainbow has all the colors. Just not included in the 7 colors to be remembered by children.
@@budle89 Where would it appear? Pink and magenta are combinations of red and blue, which are on opposite ends of the rainbow.
@@VanillaLibrarian well, rainbows aren't always showing the same "7 main colors". In certain conditions only some of those made the rainbows. And red and blue got mixed in.
Unless the definition of rainbow is more specific.
Also, I always thought pink as light red. So the part of the starting rays of red would have pink. Or the opposite of it (light purple/violet side).
For 8 seasons Greg hardly ever got up from his chair and now he dances and climbs up the stage?!

I think Greg really really enjoyed the whole concept of the snake game.
Only to judge, that is his task, otherwise he stays seated in the umpire chair, only to get up to hand out the trophy
Ed’s rainbow task was very reminiscent of Mark’s ironically also rainbow task. Both made it easier for themselves then the other contestants but still didn’t do the task perfectly 😂
At least Ed still technically won the task. Mark came third, although Hugh probably is the biggest example when he could see the lady with the mirror and still came last (if he didn't get an outright DQ, I can't remember)

they were awfully harsh on Ed too, the orange and yellow looked the same, and the black arguably looked more like real indigo than either of the faintly purple lollies

Every time a new series begins i think „im not gonna like these people, i want the old ones back“, but when ive seen the nice lady stomping the aubergine, she stole my heart :)

the way katy says "join our cult" regularly plays in my head like a earworm song, it's so great
I feel like there's a lot of subtext in "it's heavy"
That and her slow retreat were the best moments of the episode for me
I loved this series. Ed and Rose being competetive, Jo and David not giving a shit. Katy doing amazing things. And just the sheer insanity of the group XD
That aubergine task was my first exposure to this show probably one of my favourite tasks still

I've discovered the existence of the show about 8 months ago and have already rewatched two seasons wainting for 11. The wait is going to be there anyways.

alex said on the podcast that the new season’ll be out in september. with a season 9 rewatch to tide us over till then, i think i just might make it through the summer after all 🥲
I guess I am lucky, I have never watched S9, because I started getting into the show when they started putting it out on RUclips. Though I heard good things about this season.

Alex is always so endearing when he participates in the tasks, but something about him in the aubergine task is just the most sweet he's ever been.

I know I'm late in the game here, but I love the different artistic styles of Greg's portrait in the house every single episode
this show - particularly this series - was the only true solace while i was in self-quarantine recovering from catching covid. words cannot express how much gratitude i have for this show, this youtube page, Little Alex Horne, and everyone involved, for helping me get through one of the darkest periods of my life. i am SO glad to see that this series is on youtube now, and i can't wait to re-binge series 9!

Glad you're around to talk about it! I also discovered this show during quarantine (Noel Fielding led me here) and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Greg and Alex are a match made in heaven, their comedic timing is matched by few!

To be fair to Ed, the colors of the lollies WERE very difficult to determine!! Orange & yellow looked interchangeable and two look lavender to me

...I just looked it up. Here's a quote, "one raw eggplant contains roughly 11 milligrams of solanine, an alkaloid that in larger quantities can be toxic" so unless a lot s eaten, it's fine, but a couple o places did say it would likely upset your stomach.

I live in America so I’d never seen this on TV, In fact I wasn’t even really familiar with it. But on may 22 2021 I quit drinking alcohol, and I spent the next few weeks binging this show every evening. It filled such a hole in my life, especially since I was already isolated because of Covid policies. Thank you for making it available to be there for me when I needed it most

This is my favorite series of this show because the further it goes on, the more frequently the camera crew plays “Catch the comedians looking stoned out of their minds”

After watching all seasons of taskmaster I now have an unreasonable fear of people asking me to name colors of the rainbow

This was definitely one of the most competent prize rounds in the series' history! None were complete garbage, and many were really very good.
Would have been better if Mike Wosniak somehow reprised his role by going back in time to series 9

As soon as I saw the aubergine task and went outside for a break, there were literally 3 aubergines kept standing on the dinner table to be cooked for later, and I had a moment.

One of my favorite bits of this show is how Alex looks at the camera straight up with a confused, almost disturbed look on his face.
I can never take my eyes off of Rose's face when she's on screen. It's... mesmerizing.
I'd be lying if i said I wasn't immediately smitten with Rose, and after her quick wit and adorable smile just seals the deal

In all the episodes I've seen, none have had Alex as excited as the first task in this one. His visible joy was infectious.
Man, and here I was thinking that that was it for a while after last week's season finale. My deepest respect to the team behind this program, delivering every single week, again and again.

This first aubergines task is fantastic to determine the personality of the contetants- and discover who the madman of the season is early on ajjdjrje
The way Greg told Jo to keep working on her snake while she was dancing around and she said "I've finished my snake!" reminded me of the way I'd tell my middle schoolers to sit down and finish their work and they'd say "I'm done with xyz" 😂 another glimpse of teacher Greg 😂

Seeing Ed Gamble doing a roll reversal on Alex is one of my favorite things in this show
