Its crazy to look at the Negator (2B 5/5 sac a permanent = damage dealt to it), which was an incredible threat in its time...then look at the Obliterator and try to understand why it didn't dominate.
But yeah, Gristlebrand. And really, any new "good card". Gone are the days of Pygmy Allosaurus and Necropotence having the same CMC. Now, creatures can be win conditions all on their own, and anything that's "just a body" isn't cutting it.
Which I think is a good thing. Playing against Trix or Stasis Prison...I'll lose, but can I at least play the game as I lose? Yuck.

Great to see Cloudthresher on here! It probably doesn’t have the greatest shot at gaining points, but if small fliers ever take hold of modern, it’s mana cost of six certainly makes it a viable alternative to Hornet Queen when constructing an Amulet SB! I would test one, anyhow. Currently I’m not using Queen either, just 2 copies of Firespout as a great catch all, but they can’t be tutored for, so in a format dominated by small flying creatures, I would count Thresher out just yet!

Minor correction: while force of nature is one of the first cards in magic to cost 4 mana of one colour, there was at least one other card with this distinction.
The other card in question is Lich, a card that most certainly would not make this list. While it has the powerful effect, including letting you converting life into card draw, it's downsides are to great for it to have seen play.
That said, there is an entire EDH playstyle focused on using Lich effects to gain massive advantage, including ways to protect said effects. It's because of this playstyle I was aware of the cards existence, and made this minor correction.
