From what I can tell, they are one man fighting vehicles. Kinda like suits of armour with guns I assume. I know the cinematic with the X-0 (the predecessorto the Wolverine) showed a view from inside the cockpit which suggests it was manned.
Good work! :) C&C Tiberian Sun rocks! In my opinion its the game which has the best combination of "new" features and the old school vintage feel to it... Some say the pace is too slow, but heck, more time for building impenetrable defenses. Anyway, this video is awesome.

it is called "killmech". in nod missions it appears after you destroy mammoth mkII.
I always thought that the brotherhood of NOD was a lot like Cobra from GI JOE. similar uniforms, some tanks are alike, etc
