But you might be right, Taken was first then the rest followed; John Wick, Olympus has fallen, Sean Penn did a similar movie though it wasn't much of a success. Same with Colin Farrell. Even Jennifer Garner did one.

I will say, this stuff does happen to us girls. My first vacation by myself, I went to Miami, and I was about 21 at the time. As soon as I got off the plane and was hailing a cab, there was a man trying to ask me where I was, my name, where I was staying but I acted like a bitch and told him to go away. It happened again when I went to Australia when I was 30. As soon as I got off the plane, there was again a young handsome man trying to chat me up, say he knows the city and can show me around and I declined, told him I;m here on business. I worry about the girls and women who are ignorant to the fishing questions they can encounter.

What worries me so much is when some women refuse to acknowledge how dangerous it can be at times, it's not right what some monsters do but sadly it's our world. Breaks my heart when my female friends puts themselves at risk rather than asking for help, i'd gladly spend 30 mins extra walking at night if it means my friends are safe :/
I had the same thing! Travelling by myself but a guy tried getting in a taxi with me and sat there next to me asking all these questions my name, age, where I was staying etc so I just got out the taxi and went to the closest shop. Was so scary!
Yeah I’d be frightened to travel to another country all alone…especially if I didn’t speak the language.
It's because most women are pretty stup*d (just kidding! Sort of...) and therefore, easy to trick or at the very least manipulate (to be fair, men are too but the circumstances on how men and women are manipulated by the opposite sex tend to vary a bit). Also, very few of these men would actually be doing something like this. Most are probably just looking at a woman they find attractive and trying to initiate conversation. This is especially the case since a lot of young women who go on vacation tend to go for these "hot girl summers" or whatever nonsense and foreign men know this so when they see women from other nations arrive, they see them as a potentially easy one night stand.
The chances of you actually running into a sex trafficker are going to vary depending where you are, but in countries like the US and Australia, those chances wouldn't even be above 1%. If you were in a country like the DRC though, the chances of such a thing occurring would be drastically higher.
It is misunderstandings like this which is why men don't approach women anymore. If women are gonna see all guys they come across as sexual predators, how is anyone going to meet anyone in a friendly or romantic manner? It isn't as if all women are safe either.

As a single dad of daughters that are my life,..this type of stuff is my greatest fear!!! My middle angel hd a “grey haired” stalker when she was 12 and I’ve had nightmares since. I’ll do ANYTHING to protect my girls. I got them military grade pepper gel spray, and I’m a concealed carry permit holder but whenever they’re not with me I worry becasue this stuff in this movie is VERY real! It’s getting out that it’s MUCH more common than the public’s known and it’s global. Terrifying and disturbing! This , Denzel’s “man on fire” & “Prisoners” give me nightmares but great movies!

The pace of this movie is great. It just goes and doesn't stop
I think something similar could possibly have happened to a friend and me in the early 90s. We were two young women visiting the French quarter alone. A young man from France starts chatting us up. He seemed friendly enough and was all alone. Then he asked us if we could give him a ride to his hotel. My friend was one to always be trusting, so she said sure. I had a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach, but I said nothing. We start driving and asked where his hotel was. He gave us a random street name that we’d never heard of, but tells us he’ll tell us where to go. I start feeling more and more uneasy as we’re going and getting further away. All of a sudden my friend pulls the car over and tells the guy to get out of the car. He starts arguing and getting almost angry. He finally complies, but then proceeds to chase after our car screaming at us. I’ve often wondered about that night and if he had any ill intent towards us.

If you haven’t seen Schindler’s List, that’s Liam Neeson’s big movie. It’s one of those movies you have to see. The fact that kids aren’t required to see it at school is a crime against humanity. I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t seen it. The ending is a gut punch because for the most part, it’s a true story. It’s like no other movie you’ve ever seen. Everyone should see it once. Steven Spielberg’s greatest film. Whenever I think of Liam Neeson, I think of Schindler’s List. Bring Kleenex.
Pretty sure I escaped this situation. Happened to me when I was in New York City the moment I came up the stairs from Amtrak, even though I lived in NYC and was just returning home with a big bag because I'd stayed with my parents for like 3 weeks. He must've thought I was a lone tourist. I was a ballet dancer so I imagine this guy who wanted to "show me around the city" was targeting me for my appearance, like this young man did in Taken. I also have kind of a baby face like the Taken actress so I've always looked younger than I actually am from the neck up. Then he started to ask if he could take pictures of me (I think it's an ego stroking strategy to get as much info about the girl as they can for stalking purposes or to get me/the victim in a secluded place, which was NOT happening). I booked it past Madison Square Garden so fast (near the Amtrak exit I used)!!! His voice literally faded into the background like a cartoon. NOT an experience I wanna go through again.
Taken is such a great movie, can't forget about the legendary "particular set of skills" scene. If you liked Liam Neeson in this, here's some of his other movie's I think you'd enjoy, Leo

- Gangs of New York (he only has a small role in this one, but you should still check it out, it's a masterpiece)

I still remember when I saw this in the theater. My friend and I were bored and decided to watch two movies. We didn’t know what this one was about at all and we were like omg this is amazing! This was before John Wick too so we weren’t really used to this bad assery like we have now with Nobody, John Wick and The Equalizer. If you haven’t seen The Equalizer I highly suggest it! Has Denzel Washington in it 😁

This happens every minute of every day around the world. Women and children. Some women are even bought and sold to be breeders. And yes, it's the people with the most money getting them.
This stuff is really going on. Especially in America where child trafficking is a bigger business than pharmaceuticals
Not even just minors, but those 18 and up as well. I’ve heard of these shady groups that find vulnerable women who might be without families nearby, force them on drugs, and then just never let them leave. Scary
It isn't that common in the US. You are much more likely to get trafficked outside the US than in it. That's why of all the trafficking cases that do happen in the US, the traffickers take the victims to more "friendly trafficking" nations in which their disappearance won't cause too many raised eyebrows. Traffickers want to get out of European countries and the US as soon as possible because the governments would act ruthlessly to anyone caught in the business. It isn't like some countries in Africa and Asia where there are still thriving slave markets to the degree in which you could buy yourself a wife without having to worry much about being apprehended.

Don't know about now, but I remember growing up in the 2000's-2010's Walmart always had a big board at the entrances full of missing kids and their pictures, their names, DOB, when and where they were last spotted, how recent the picture was in case they looked different now, etc. THOUSANDS are trafficked in the US a year.
Millions of illegal immigrants are smuggled into our country each year (Including even MORE sex trafficking victims) through weak security at our ports and borders, why make the assumption they're not bringing anything back? That's 50% of the transit wasted with no revenue 50% of your trip otherwise. And what are they gonna smuggle out? Drugs? From the #1 drugs market in the entire world? If you want to increase profits from selling drugs in the US you go inland AWAY from where they're easily smuggled in from the foreign nations they're easily made in.
As an example Meth can be easily made in the US and all the way in Kansas for some PRETTY high purity stuff it's only $10 a point (of a gram, $30 = 0.3g or 300mg). Cocaine on the other hand? Costs a ton more for some (usually) pretty stepped on stuff, like $70 for a couple points or something; Ironically Cocaine is weaker while also being significantly shorter acting but it still gets that premium cause it's gotta be imported and is considered "More Classy".
Women and children from the US are worth more since they're harder to get, that's why they're usually grabbed in foreign countries where they can make the extra money without having to do the extra work, plus slow police response, family being informed (If they even know, often family of tourists not having contact is what gets them reported in the first place), language barriers, jurisdictional questions, etc. Can give traffickers the lead they need to obfuscate their trail enough to basically make them disappear by the time everyone knows "something" is up and the ball finally gets rolling.
It was only a few years ago an FBI agent and her partner were shot and killed while conducting a search warrant in connection with a child sex trafficking investigation. It was in South Florida, ironically also known for their issues with the Cartels and Cubans using boats along their numerous beaches, coves, swampland, etc to smuggle drugs, criminals, and victims into the US. No reason they couldn't the same method to smuggle things out. And that's just 1 trafficking point.
Hundreds of missing kids a year are found by LEO stings on trafficking operations. And be careful of women ironically enough, they're often the ones that choose to befriend vulnerable girls/women or get them to let down their guard so they can get grabbed. Same with escorts too, it's usually another women/escort that talks a "friend" into doing it too.

First movie I remember seeing Liam Neeson in was a comedy called *High Spirits.* It also starred Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy) Beverley D'Angelo (NL Vacation) Peter O'Toole and Darryl Hannah (Splas & Steel Magnolias).
I absolutely love High Spirits. I randomly recommend this to reactors, but I don't think the comment ever gets enough likes to get noticed. I don't think a ton of people know/remember it. Another one is Haunted Honeymoon with Dom DeLuise, Gene Wilder, and Gilda Radner.
Holy crap. I haven't seen that movie in forever.

when i was on my senior trip to the Caribbean(Disney cruise: 4 days at the resort and 3 days on the cruise), we stopped off at Nasau to hit up a straw market. one of my classmates chose to walk off and buy gifts for her family on her own. I opted to accompany her cause there was a news reports of a woman who was kidnapped and murdered in the Caribbean about a year before. she wasn't really discrete with her money(which made me very nervous), but nothing ended up happening other than a few glances at her then at me(I was much larger than her and, arguable, more intimating).

If this hasn't already been said, Brian was special forces when he was in his early 20's, by his mid 20's he had been recruited by the CIA (in the movie they mentioned Langley, that's the CIA's headquarters) and he was basically a master spy for like 30ish years before retiring. His friends that stopped by to grill steaks (and who helped him with analyzing the phone recording) worked with him in the CIA

It’s not necessarily a movie that was wildly popular but one I’d recommend for reaction is Peppermint starring Jennifer Garner.
I’d also recommend a couple other Liam Neeson movies: A Walk Among the Tombstones and Non-Stop. They are both good in their own way

Taken is a action thriller😁🔥. Bryan Mills is one of Liam Nelson’s most iconic characters as his line “You don’t know who I am….I will find and I will kill you” is so iconic and one of the best memorable lines in any action movie. It was a really fun film as it had emotions with father and daughter and some pretty good action, even though it wasn’t not quite well edited for me but still it was impressive. Loved your reaction/analysis, take care and have a good one❤️
This movie and Hostel were the two that made me hesitant to travel to Europe. I got over that fear and have been many times but it stuck with me that this kind of stuff still happens all the time.
Occasionally it feels like Liam Neeson's character could take on the Crazy 88 from Kill Bill, but I still really enjoy this movie. Some of my favorite moments:
- The fact that Stuart isn't an asshole and that Lenore doesn't dump him to return to Bryan.
- The bodyguard sequence when Bryan saves the pop singer from a stalker.
- That excellent, "you don't remember me, I told you I'd find you," followed up with the fight.

Unfortunately this happens in every country now. This movie did more to have young girls take caution that any "lecture" from a parent. Sometimes the "creep" at the airport is just trying to steal you luggage or rip you off by triple billing the taxi fees but they are everywhere.
Agreed, I've been seeing a lot lately about people calling out pickpockets, too, and signs to watch out for. I love channels that call out the common tourist scams so people can watch out for them, it's incredibly helpful for awareness. Or like "sight-seeing tours" where they take you, someone, to pretty much take your money. And "shoe shinners" who drop the brush waiting for someone to pick it up that they pick as a scam target. Saying "as a thank you for picking up my brush I will shine your shoes for free." But they make you actually pay them for it.
I don't know if it happens in other countries but there is another one I heard of in the US where "street performers" are dressed up like characters (tv, movie, showgirls, etc.) and ask if you want to pose with them for a photo. Then they force you to pay for the photo. If anyone in a costume asks you if you want a photo with them, keep walking, or decline. The only exception is if you are at a convention or if it's Halloween.
So many scenarios you would never think of, especially if you don't live there or have never traveled there before.

Sweden literally has bombings and shootouts due to a gang war between teenagers, with teens chosen as the hitmen most often for gang assassinations since Swedens soft laws means they literally can't get a tougher sentence than some counseling or a few years in Juvie for murder.
There was also those 2 that got raped and murdered in a cemetery, think it happend to 2 teens by a teen gang as well, and also in Sweden.
A big part of it, regardless of your politics, was the large number of refugees brought into the country. The effort was never put into actually "Intergrating" them into their new country so instead there's now effectively their own society that's not only separate, but actively disagrees with the local ones.
That's just ONE Nordic Country, there's issues to varying degrees and seriousness in others as well.

20 years plus into his career, this franchise made him the new thinking man's action hero.
The phone call scene is unforgettable and major selling point of the movie in it's first trailer.
Shoutout to you for watching the unrated version, simply the best version.
Part 2 is great and part 3 is decisive for not being a good finale.

The creators of TAKEN are Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, Leon The Professional) & Robert Mark Kamen (The original Karate Kid films, 1984-94).
They wrote many other gems together:
Kiss of The Dragon (2001), The Transporter films with Jason Statham (2002-2008), Unleashed (2005) and Columbiana (2011).
So you got to watch all of these if you can.
Interesting how Liam Neeson's career path is similar to that of another Irishman: Gabriel Byrne. Also had several other jobs before becoming an actor. And another guy who would fit this bill while not being an Irishman per se, is Harrison Ford whose dad was Irish.
It's not a bad look for Paris It's a bad look for Eastern European Countries which a lot of them do have a huge problem with Human Trafficking. But I must say you have gotten really good at predicting whats about to happen while watching movies probably because you watch so many now. lol

When this movie came out I was 3-4 and I swear this is the reason why my mom has always been overbearing with me, I understand Kim's mom bc Brian was kind of smothering her but in reality it was just worry. You need to give your kids space to breathe bc if u don't they will end up hating u, there are bad people out there but I refuse to believe every person is evil maybe I'm just to trusting but I like giving ppl the benefit of the doubt it's just who I am.
That mentality will destroy you. It is best to look at everyone skeptically and only loosen that perspective after you have enough reason to trust them. I'd NEVER trust ANYONE with 100% of my being though. Not any potential wife, kids or anyone else. The only person you can really trust in life is yourself and even then, that has its problems because of how easy it really is to influence someone else via manipulation, chemicals etc meaning any decision you make can be the result of someone else playing you like a chess piece.

Thank you for hating what happens. I’ve worked with trafficked children for years. The horror stories I can tell of what people have no problem forcing to others for money, power, and an orgasm. We rescue and recover as many as we can. Sex is not pleasure to victims, it’s always trauma. Trafficking is dangerous like this, not too much over exaggeration. When I went to Germany in 2021, to visit my sister and her husband I was a little iffy too. I would have to fly from LAX into Switzerland and then to Germany and only know English to speak. Sure just stick to yourself and just go to your gates but still I was scared and excited I would soon be in Germany with my sister that has lived there for 5 years and already knew German :D. It was a great trip overall and I would call my parents every stop we had I was 28 years old when I was with my sister and her husband but yes the father should be strict about just letting his daughter go to Paris by herself and a friend.
