I won't list my Top 5 for 2023 but my No. 1. That is Netflix's 'All Quiet On The Western Front.' Although it's in its native German (like the original novel), the 4K gatefold digipak + built-in essay book is absolutely display worthy. And, the film is spectacular (Oscar winner for best foreign film, I believe).
15:50 That Bloodsport looks so nice I am a huge JCVD fan, own almost all of his movies on VHS/DVD or BluRay but have no 4k.. as I am still looking for HARD TARGET!
@@4K_Kings My local sunrise records (HMV) did have a glossy steelbook copy earlier, but I didn’t snag it. They said they will have one again soon, so I’m just waiting it out another month or so then I’ll have to resort to other means. I do my best to support local.!
Not only did I not think we would get an awesome Blood Sport 4K but also Blood Sport poster artwork underwear from Contenders clothing! lol yup so awesome 👏
My first 4K Kings video and I really appreciated your take on a selection process. It consisted of a combination of most satisfying and meaningful acquisitions for the year. I admit that I couldn't help liking the list since it consisted of mostly my list: 2001 Film Vault Shawshank Film Vault Exorcist Collector's edition (with the glorious original poster art steel) Oppenheimer Inception (Manta Labs)
I bought the 4K Steelbook of Bloodsport, I'm waiting until Christmas Eve to watch it on my OLED with a 6 pack of beer. Glad to hear it's a good transfer!
Oh, man! Have to get me the 2001 and Psycho boxes you talked about! Here are the top 5 films I really want on 4K physical media next year: • 2010 (P. Hyams) • Bugsy (B. Levinson) • The Hunger (T. Scott) • Nixon (O. Stone) • Presumed Innocent (A. Pakula) Bonus - Thirteen Days (R. Donaldson)
Wait... when did Bugsy release? I've always loved that movie. EDIT And The Hunger? I still only have standard blus of both this and Bugsy. Bugsy did get a directors cut at one point, but I'm curious as to what you got and what I missed. EDIT EDIT Bela Lugosi is dead.
The Hunger is 1983 with just a Bluray (1080P). Bugsy is 1992 and has NEVER had an HD physical media release, only DVD. I did however purchase the VUDU HDX digital (streaming) version which seems to be 1080P.
Really great picks and you even sold me Space Odyssey and Shawshank, even though i double own them. 2023 was a fantastic collecting year and my top picks would be.. - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas 👌 - Bloodsport - Kubo and the Two Strings ( and all the Laika films. Their steelbooks are pure art ). - Rollerball Ultimate Edition - Both Avatar movies As far as collector's boxes, this year was godlike.. - Hellraiser Quartet of Torment (Arrow) - Bruce Lee at Golden Harvest (Arrow) - WB 100 Anniversary. Ok i will agree that, 2-3 films don't belong in here, but overall this collection made my year. Cool Hand Luke especially was one of the best films/4k transfers i have seen this year. Demo disc. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.
Gentlemen I which you merry Christmas and happy 2024 picking up more good films! From your best 4K selection, I have the 4K Psycho box set and also the 4K Exorcist ! I have to add 4K ARROW Bruce Lee at Golden Harvest and 4K EUREKA Touch of Evil !
Great picks both of them for your number ones. Mine, I think this year is the Everything Blue Deluxe Collectors edition of The Fifth Element. We as a family truly love this film, hell we named our first born Korben. Keep up the great videos guys
Great selections guys. Was sleeping on those Film Vault releases as well, so i might have to have a second look at them. Merry Christmas and happy New Year. Enjoy your holidays.
The two big ones for me this year were the Arrow 4K of Blood and Black Lace and the recent Criterion 4K of Days of Heaven. Let's hope we see more 4Ks of the Terrence Malick films in 2024 - particularly Badlands. 👍 Best wishes to you and all your subscribers for the holidays.
I think physical media is going to pull through, at least in terms of film and tv, and these boutique companies are going to grow as demand grows, more quantity of titles for reasonable prices, there is a movement growing to preserve media. I recently finally watched the movie "Hugo" by Scorsese, and while not perfect, really drives home its central message, the importance of archives. I will have to get me that Steel-book version of Oppenheimer. Barbarella is one of those movies you wanna project on the wall at a club or party, the imagery is its primary asset (more specifically its half naked star) and 4k is ideal for projection. Guys, you have a great channel here, perfect odd-couple chemistry and you take great care in exhibiting the merchandise, thank you for your service!
Thanks for always tuning in. We really appreciate the kind words. We are humble servants of physical media, trying to give it the dignity it deserves. Can't wait for 2024!
Thank you MisterBrimm... Funny thing about your comment is that in one sentence you made me interested in Hugo, when all the advertising and Scorsese himself directing failed to do so. I remember being baffled by the trailers and not in a good way... I also want "Groove is in the Heart" blasting at the party with Barbarella projected on the wall.
what a great year... those are all _excellent_ choices. Whoever is doing the artwork for The Film Vault releases... you are amazing some honorable mentions maybe? The Night of the Hunter, The Ranown Westerns box, and It Follows would also receive consideration from me.
I'm ashamed I (Matt) forgot to mention Night of the Hunter. It's def an honorable mention, possibly should have been in consideration for Top 5. I blew it!
Glad to see I am not alone in the love for The Film Vault collection. I picked up Goodfellas when first announced and I love it. Slip cover on Goodfellas is amazing. Now I just need The Film Vault to do Fight Club or Master and Commander. Guess it would help if they had 4 k releases first. lol
@@MrCREWCRUSHIN95 Well it probably helps that I just got into collecting 18 months ago so my collection is still small enough it's not an issue for me quite yet.
Can’t argue with these choices, guys. My Oppenheimer steel story is a tragedy. It was posted through my letterbox just halfway through and my dog proceeded to put teeth marks in it AND bend the steel / snap the disc. 😢 I would definitely agree on the Film Vault choice (i got the Jaws version) and also the Psycho collection. My addition to the list would be The Wicker Man box set. It’s a real beaut, and am I right that you guys haven’t seen the movie? I kinda had that impression. It’s an absolute horror classic and legendary British movie. Highly recommended. Thanks for all the videos this year, guys. Wonderful work. Merry Christmas!

Nice pick with The Wicker Man set. 1973 was quite the year with the Exorcist in USA and The Wicker Man in UK. Not to mention Black Christmas and The Texas Chainsaw massacre both coming in 74. What a time!
You're right, Rich... I haven't seen it either. I think it came on to my radar around the time of the Nic Cage remake, which simultaneously taught me of it's existence and soured me on the name.

Region 2 is for DVDs. Region B is blu ray for the UK and Europe. 4k has no region coding (for 99.9% of discs).
