In honor of Veteran's day 2022, Arkansas born singer songwriter, veteran, and all around great human, Baker aka Gravedancer performs his heartfelt tune about not giving up, "The Strongest Stuff."
Baker has been one of those unicorn type artist that we’ve been trying to nail down for far too long.
We first heard about Baker's music from our pal Nick Shoulders. He would often drop his name for suggestions of songwriters to look out for. We were eager to grab a video with him, unfortunately, Covid and schedules kept us from coming together. He was touring with Shawn James (another artists we’d been trying connect with) when we found a way to cross our paths.
“The songs I write are generally sad in their nature, but don't expect anything resembling a serious conversation out of me in person." says Baker.
He really wanted to play us a song that was more reflective of who he is in conversation and less "sad" than what is typically known for in his songwriting. In this conversation he started telling us about his time serving and being a veteran and then played us a few bars of this song. We knew within the first line that this was the right song. The struggles of war time and the veterans that return are real. Whether or not you agree with the justification for a war, we should all agree that our neighbors and friends are struggling. Check in on your friends, especially the strong ones.
Veteran suicide is an epidemic, if you or someone you know is struggling check out this link or call 988 theactionalliance.org/veteran...
We love you.

"Like how my drinking days are over, and it's been years since I've been sober. Since the war I can't sleep without a little help to close my eyes." Wow. I am not the only one. Thanks brother.
Lots of us bro. It’s okay to talk about it
Long shot, but are you from Pope Co, Illinois? You look mighty familiar.
@@justincarman5485 haha. Hot Damn son! I know you. You're probably better friends with me brothers. Fancy seeing you here.
@@darint07 Yup, I played ball with them. Mighty small world we live in.
Fancy indeed
"It's a daily choice"
You got that fucking right. Loved this one. Life is 99% how you react and grow from situations. A calm sea don't make a skilled sailor.
“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” - by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Thanks for that one, love it, great quote! And keep on keepin on!!!....
And if it doesn’t feel like a choice today, sometimes just being ok with not being ok can relieve the pain. Release the strain of needing to change the way you feel instead of giving yourself a fucking break. Worthy of being awake even in your current state. Love waits beyond those gates. Thats the choice i hope you make, accepting that you’ve been worth the wait. 💚
The only time I ever got sea sick was Hurricane Bob , don't you know it !
@@wheninroamful I forgot who it was that said that, its a saying that has always stuck with me. Thanks for the comment.
"I don't want help exactly, just anything to distract me."
That's the most relatable opening line.
I never served but I thank God you did. Got a buddy who’s a combat vet, Somalia, Blackhawk Down. He’s very active in support. His quote is “You didn’t let them kill you over there, don’t let them kill you over here”. God Bless.
Such a good quote. Evil leaders

Wow did I need this. Deployed now, only reason I’m sober. My kids are slowly saving me. Don’t want them to grow up with a drunk dad, or without one. Great song brother!
Stay strong, fight the fight that matters most. Make them kids lucky to have you as a dad. That’s what you’re fighting for brother. Old vet here but just as proud of you as I am of my own Marines. Thanks for carrying the standard forward for us old dogs. Semper Fi.
Sending Light and Love. You got this!
Keep at it, Brother!! We all love and appreciate y'all very much!! I may not know you or ever get to meet you, but never for one second think that this world is better without you. Stay in it and keep your head up!
Thank you Justin, Samantha and Jonathan! All of your words mean a lot!
Thanks for being you and seeing clearly for your family and showing it to all of us. I'm a recovering alcoholic and need comments like yours . Thanks for your service. You're the strength of our country
One of the best songs ever written
My nephew was in Afghanistan. He was way too young to see what he saw and experience what he did. He came home with demons. Those demons and Afghanistan finally took him February 2022. Thank you for this song.
I. Sorry for ur loss
Just made me check on my buddy Brad Houge. Sorry for your loss.
i am deeply sorry for your loss. it always comes to take the best of us.
This song is worthy of a studio recording
VERY!
Its on itunes in an EP
Spotify has it as well!
Some things are better outside of the studio. Go listen to Benjamin Todd and you’ll understand. His videos hit so hard.
There's no need for a version other than this
Thank you for your service.i pray all is well now with your health and sobriety.
I just came across this video in my feed and recognized that very distinct face and voice. I was in basic training with McKinney. One of 2 guys I spoke with or hung out with. I’m glad to see your doin alright brother! Love the music and hope you see this! It has been some time since then and would enjoy catching up.
Wow that really is some coincidence. He has his own youtube page if he doesn't see it here.

Probably should reach out and find the guy.
Keep your head up brother your a good man and thank you for your service
I was a Marine Infantryman did 12 years and multiple deployments, and lost so many brothers over there came home and still loosing brothers. I attempted to check out but thankfully something somehow intervened, and I took a look, and I was so fortunate to be here when so many of my buddies, much better men then I, didn't get to make it home. I needed to enjoy it and make the best of it and continue on so the stories of my brothers were never forgotten. Love that song brother. Thank you
@@rollinabode5222 no need to thank me my friend, I was lucky enough to make it home, and was an honor to serve my country and an honor to call some real heroes my brothers, but thank you, anymore I get called a murderer or war criminal by folks on here. Means alot to have something nice said. These people don't understand we didn't start the wars, we just went where they sent us, and we just fought to protect each other and make it back home.
@@hatfieldmccoy0311 thank you for your service from me too 🇺🇸
@@hatfieldmccoy0311 this is exactly how I feel.
@@m17glock35 glad you are home brother.
@@hatfieldmccoy0311 been home since '95 . medical from a seahawk crash . while i did see a couple of shit storms here and there it was nothing like the extended combat deployments some of my brothers ended up doing . like you it is an honor that i get to call real heroes brothers and friends .
Been sober since 2007. This song does not just touch and help veterans (God be with them all). Just wanted to say Thank you. I think about going back a lot. Finding those "joys in life" gets harder and harder as time goes by it seems. What makes me so GD mad is things wouldn't be this bad if only America could go back. I miss how people use to be before technology and the great genocide of our integrity.
" Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength." -St. Francis De Sales.
My thanks to all who participated to bring this amazing performance into my life. I am sober and not looking back.
Demons Behind Me, And So Is The Past.
You’re never alone brother. They wait for us beneath the standard, silent but proud, even when we stumble, especially when we stand back up and they rest their hands on our shoulders when we kneel. Always remember them.
This was a true and beautiful song. You can feel the heart in this.
Exactly 🔥💘🖤
Im glad you found your joy man. I lost a half brother the day after i met him to drug OD. Marine tour in afg ruined him. Im praying for peace for you brother
You are a brave and valuable man and a damn fine musician too! Don't let the Demons win.
TYFYS sir. May you find peace on earth again. Lots of CBD helped me. 💞
Nine years in the bottle drown no one but me.
Although that wasn't the plan, it was still better than the constant battles.
Praise God, He had better plans: Now I live Free! Sometimes He blesses me with another hand to hold, a voice to hear, a shared tear to weep.
Much love God bless
i served in Afghanistan O.E.F 2008-2009, and i thank you Baker for making a song, about you and us all veterans, ,for some reason, coming home, its never the same, when we come back, for some reason, life changes alot, like seeing it from a blurry AF Lense. but we Vets gotta hang in there, i was an 11B ,82nd 330th HHC,
Thanks for sharing your story.

This brought me to tears. I work for an inpatient combat PTSD recovery center called Strong Hope. Any active or retired service members who need treatment please look into it. It’s a 30-day, live-in program.
Life saving song.
I have more respect for those who serve than any politician that's ever been. Thank you Sir.!!
Let it out. The best healer.
Thank you😇💜
21 year vet here, I have gone so far through this, I am now coming out the other side... Retired in 2017, and still pushing on, see you on the other side brothers....

My dream is to be a nurse at the VA. To help veterans would make me feel better at the end of the day. Thank you for this. I’m writing my resume soon. Gives me good mojo. And Thank You for Your Service!!!
None of our lives would be the same without your and your families sacrifice.
We there with you brother
Wow. If this doesn’t hit you in the feels you’re not human.
You know how much power it takes to outrun the emptiness, the hard part is making it last.
This song reminds me that I may not need to slow down, but I don’t need to run that fast.
I must cry when i hear this... i love this song!!!
Bless you brother, Your friends aren’t hurting anymore.
Thank you. My girlfriend friend and I watched this together. Helped her understand the demons inside me. I’m a vet of the Iraq war. I feel your pain. I walked a very dark road when I cam home. Almost checked out myself. Took another vet to get me straight. Been over a decade been fight my demons. But you put the words together that people will understand. Keep up the fight your blessed. And now your fighting the fight for all of us get your message out tell your story so people will understand us.
