I did several things to determine theft. 1. I changed the ignition switch to an industrial key switch, less than $15. 2 I installed a kill switch in the line to the ignition switch, and put it in an inconspicuous place. 3 I added a GPS tracker, along with a label on the steering wheel. These won't guarantee against theft, but will slow them. A good and easy brake lock would help.
Hi Jerry & Linda, thanks for posting this video. I contacted Gold Shield Alarms and had their golf cart alarm put on. It is so incredibly loud that it will scare any thief off and get a lot of attention to anyone messing with your cart. Gives me great peace of mind wherever I park the cart. Thanks so much for doing the video!
A tracking device would be what I would recommend. Alarms are useless. I should know. Before I retired my business was Automotive Electronics and a major part of my business was alarms up to a few years before I retired. Can you imagine how annoying it would be to listen to multiple alarms going off all the time by accident? I don't even have them on my personal cars anymore. But I do have tracking devices in them. That way you get your vehicle back and possibly get rid of a thief in the process. Just my opinion obviously.
What a great product. I'd get one in a heartbeat if I lived in a golf cart community. I'm sure that his sales are going to increase when more people see this video!
We are still learning from your videos. 😊The alarm system is a good idea. Mike did a demo of his. We have an AirTag on both of our golf carts, but not in case they get stolen. It’s so Al can find them. 😂
Besides golf cart theft, we just got hit with Freon theft in the air conditioning unit outside. Found the locking cap tossed on the ground. This was the second time this year. The repairman said it could be teenagers Huffing the stuff. There are no teenagers in our neighborhood. It cost us $88 and he put another better made locking cap on it.
Wonder if those old things people used to used to prevent car thefts would work on a golf cart? It’s called the club they still sell them.. it’s like 20.00 bucks I heard that a couple of the carts left their keys in the cart .. good information!
This is the only real defense. A car alarm is great but how many have you heard going off in parking lots and no one bats an eye. But only works for iPhone users
Hey guys. Happy Thursday. Golf cart theft Jerry & Linda 🤦♀️? Oh my. Cart in distress. Oh my. Different gadgets to stop the criminals. Tis a shame. So if they take the cart, they can make keys? His alarm will chase someone away. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend 🤗
Prevention drove this invention. Ease of use and a theft deterrent is the intention. Great idea adding to our peace of mind. Thank you as always for sharing.😀
@@eddieBoxer Plenty of seniors can afford it, as attested to by the sheer size and numbers of The Villages. If you can't afford a mortgage, don't buy the house. That's true of every house and every location, not just The Villages.
Great video! Such a good product and great information! Also loved your recreation of the theft… Hollywood might be calling you to produce film for them😂
Where I live in AZ we have things stolen. My neighbor had 2 grads and trailer stolen out of his yard. Our area is being built up quite a bit so come the ones who steal. Great alarm!
Remember LoJack? We have that on our 23 year old truck. I haven't heard it mentioned in years so don't know if it's still a thing, but I'd imagine that would work like an airtag and be available to people who don't use apple devices.
Thanks for another informative show. One thing I'd be mindful of is if having an non-Yamaha installed product wired into my new golf cart would have a negative effect on my Yamaha Warranty.
We use Apple Air Tags in our luggage etc especially when travelling, they are amazing too. My sister in law keeps one in their 2 nd vehicle, the one my nephew drives, he hasn’t caught on to it yet. 🚗 Tina 🚗
Since the carts are easily put on a trailer by two guys, the only fool proof method seems to me is the boot. Could they move it with the brake pedal lock? They could still move it with the Club. With the Air Tag, you might track it but if it is in a closed garage, what are you gonna do? The cops can’t get to it without a search warrant, and my guess is they won’t go to the trouble. The alarm is a pretty good deterrent.
Considering many new carts cost $20,000+, they should come with standard theft systems like cars. That is why I drive an old Yamaha that is bulletproof and no one looks twice at
Thanks for the timely info, we don’t own a golf car but as you mentioned there’s usually an article in the Newsbreak app about golf cars getting stolen in the Villages, Good job!👍👍
It’s only an alarm? Does it do something to keep the cart from being moved? Do they have a proximity key, like a modern car, you walk away and it arms….
Pretty soon lots of Villagers will have the golf cart alarms and those alarms will be going off left and right in the Town Squares causing lots of NOISE POLLUTION (115 decibels is very loud) because: 1) many golf cart owners will forget to disable their alarms and 2) random people will accidentally bump into carts and set off alarms. The alarms are 115 decibels which is VERY LOUD. This video says the Villages is the largest golf cart community in the world and that 30,000 golf carts get stolen per year in the whole of the USA. They also said that in the Villages, about 10 to 20 golf carts get stolen each month - and that equals 120 to 240 golf cart thefts per year in the Villages out of 30,000 annually in the USA. It sounds to me like the Villages is very lucky to have such low theft numbers.
Greetings Jerry & Linda. Born and raised in Indianapolis. Graduated HS 1966, BS from IU then moved out west and haven't been back. After all these years is Indiana still a great place to raise a family? Thanks! Joe & Fran
I am wondering if this alarm alerts you on your cell phone? I would place an apple airtag on my golf cart. If it is stolen, you might be able to locate it through this device. The police would be involved. I know of a woman who placed one of these on her e-bike and it was stolen, and she located the address and phoned the police. She got her bike back and the thieves were arrested.
I didn't see any comments mentioning this. I worry we would start hearing alarms going off constantly with false alarms from things like wind, people bumping into your cart etc... Also the chirping when you arm and disarm. The idea of changing the ignition key and a kill switch seems like a better idea, and probably cheaper.
By the way, who are these thieves? Outside criminals or actual residents? They must have profiled some of them. I can’t imagine a Village’s resident being involved in any crimes. Also, maybe you could mount one of these “Apple tags” so that you could actually track the cart as an additional safety measure. Thanks for the heads up. Who knew?
One more item for Evolution cart owners. You may have been told by the dealer the keys are all different. I swapped keys with another Evo owner and they still worked. The keys were indeed cut different but it didn't make any difference.
My understanding is most thefts happen when keys are left in the cart. Local drunks or druggies see it when they don't feel like walking and jump in. I wondered how many carts are recovered. I also have the impression many are stolen out of lots by a Publix or Winn Dixie that these types would frequent.
Most carts are built with the intention of being used on a golf course as rentals or loaners. A course having 50 carts doesn't want to deal with 50 unique keys so they are keyed alike. Thousands of carts are rebuilt into "refurbished" carts in TV and the locks are never changed. I don't think there is any effort to create unique keyed locks so they might be updated. Then if the carts are towed (rather than a key used) on to a trailer they are very light so using a simple winch is all you need to drag one on to the trailer. They get it back to a private garage and the thieves can do as they wish with it.
I live in a retirement community of about 600 people west of you. 2 nearby teenagers stole 3 carts (old and new) with no keys in just one afternoon. Took each one off into a field just to wreck it and came back to steal another one. Didn't stop going back for more until one kid got a little banged up. They were caught days later, and nothing much was done to them at all.
I loved how quickly Jerry jumped into action to help push that golf cart! A true gentleman.
Thank you!!! 🙂🙂🙂
Escaping theft in New York City move to the Villages and they're stealing from you, even the senior citizens are a bunch of thugs.
I did several things to determine theft.

I also changed the key switch but then hid an Android tag. Not as good as GPS tracking but cheap and it has a chance of working.
How much does cost

Always delightful to watch! Awesome info about the alarms-sign us up! Great looking shirt 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great show! And a needed security device for golf carts everywhere. It's a shame there are so many thefts.
Great show as always. Our cars have similar alarms which do little to stop theft but are great to annoy your neighbors with LOL

Good grief! That's terrible. Time to get a security camera?
It's sad this is necessary but it looks like a good product. I think your idea of driving a "clunker" is a good one too!
Grandma and Grandpa are still acting like thugs, seems stealing is in their blood.
Wonder if those old things people used to used to prevent car thefts would work on a golf cart? It’s called the club they still sell them.. it’s like 20.00 bucks I heard that a couple of the carts left their keys in the cart .. good information!
I know someone who uses the Club for her golf cart.
I have a hidden Apple Air Tag in mine. You could take my cart, but I will find you, and I will bring Liam with me..

Looks like a great idea guys but what happens when the alarm stops ringing and the thief continues to take it

Amazon sells LoJack for vehicles but they are $1,100 and up. $130.00 sounds MUCH better.
@contentpeckham8460 According to the Gold shield website, there alarm sells for $149.
I enjoy watching your channel. It is extremely informative, and I find I laugh out loud. You bring joy to me.

How much?

Our niece, lives in Charleston,South Carolina, had her golfcart stolen from her driveway, never heard it leave!
😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
*That's 10 to many carts to be stolen* . *Can you use the golf cart alarm for side by side ATV* ????
Thank you for sharing
Great information! Thanks
How is it powered? Battery or wired and if wired is installing it easy?
Would you get a discount on the cart Insurance if it is alarmed?
I doubt it but it is a good question.
It’s only an alarm? Does it do something to keep the cart from being moved? Do they have a proximity key, like a modern car, you walk away and it arms….

that guys chawing is hilarious
Great idea!!!!
Sorry, just had to chuckle..a seniors' community having their golf carts stolen!
Glad you enjoyed it! Tune in next week for a story about a broken hip.
Cost?
Awesome! It’s a shame we have so many crooks in our society and it is growing everyday!
I see the phone number and website posted in the description. Thanks J & L.
Guess my bicycle chain won’t be enough.😄😮
Haha. Now just add a drop down seat belt that locks ‘em in so they can’t run away!
😁😆😅🤣😅😆😁
maybe you need a hidden security camera (on the cart) and film the theft
Simple fix.....replace the universal receptacle with a on/off switch that accepts only one key.
Don’t leave your keys in your golf cart!!!
Apple Air Tag cart and bag. You can track down thief with consequences..
I don't think I've ever seen anyone chew gum as fast as that guy...... LOL

I believe it's more like 100k carts. Over 150k people and some have two, as do we.
