A detailed look at how the greens at Winged Foot Golf Club's West Course, site of the 2020 U.S. Open, were completely restored to their original designs.
I thought they would just cut the grass a little shorter or something... jeez they really brought out the scanners and surveyors holy hell thats impressive
It would be interesting to know percentage of slopes, and how the greens stimp for members. And how they stomp for a big major tournament. Often, as a Golf Architect I wonder is the USGA green over done ?? Like, " California " greens can be effective and cheaper to build. Then, the old push up greens were quite effective and very economical to build and if built properly, 80 % of the water would surface drain... thus, are USGA greens over designed and too too too expensive to build and to maintain. Greens need to be great because they are the heart of the golf course, yet only about 2.5 acres out of 150 acres..proportionally, maybe the greens demand too much attention, even though they need to putt decently and hold well hit shots, and withstand high traffic areas.. the old push up greens, if contoured right accomplished much of this. Has the USGA made golf too too too expensive to build, to maintain, and most importantly too expensive for majority of people to play. ??? If golf courses were more economical to build and upkeep, then the cost to play would be much much more affordable and attract millions of more people and investors.
Arthur Ford I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure the USGA only has a say in the course setup for their events. The host course pays for actual renovations they deem necessary to keep their courses top notch
I would be so nervous destroying the greens of such an iconic and historic golf course. It would be like taking down the Mona Lisa, burning it and then having somebody else repaint it exactly like it was before.
Pointless nonsense. Too much time and money on your hands. Trying to get a green to be unnaturally dry is stupid. Golf courses should not actively go against nature. And Bryson still brought this course to its knees anyway LOL.
So the hardworking rich people had to gave up all their hard earn money to help the poors? How about you give 90% of your salary to the poor and live your life like theirs? Don't be stupid
