- These are the two new Amur Tiger cubs at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Mom is Zoya, and dad is Hector. A male and female were born November 6, 2023. The Zoo announced a public naming opportunity for the two cubs to support wildlife conservation. All naming donations will help tiger conservation.
Make a donation for the names of your choice in support of tiger conservation. Female: Mila Karina Anoushka, and the Male: Ivan Boris Sergei. Voting ended 2/12/24.
Hector came to Cleveland in November 2017 from Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, England.
The Zoo Facebook page mentioned him being 2 years old on July 27, 2017.
Zoya came to Cleveland in December 2019 at the age of 4, from the Odense Zoo in Denmark.
The Conservation status of the Amur Tigers is “ Endangered”. There are approximately 500 Amur Tigers left in the wild.

-Amur tigers are sometimes called Siberian Tigers.
-Today, 95% of these tigers are found along the Amur River where the Amur River forms a border between Russia and China
- Amur Tigers are the largest of the 6 Tiger species (the others are Bengal, Indochinese, Malayan, South China, and the Sumatran
-Males grow larger than females, males average 475 pounds (range from 400-675 pounds)
and females average 260 pounds (range 2200370 pounds)
-Tigers are solitary creatures. Except for about a week during mating, males and females live alone. The only exception is a female and her offspring. They may stay together for 2 to 2-1/2 years
-Cubs leave their mother to find their own territories sometime between 2 and 2-1/2 years old

Ohhhhh - they are just perfect❣️ One of the things I love so much about cats is that no matter their size, they all behave…well, like cats! Mama encouraging the timid cub to come outside with little grunts was just the sweetest thing. ❤

Lion cubs look cute. Tiger cubs already look like killers.

As with bears, it’s a shame that you can’t interact with them, give them a bear hug, and cuddle up to them without ending up as an entree on the dinner 🥘 menu. It’s just not fair! 😢
