I always thought for the last one the fork and knife should be together at a 45 degree angle
European way. So yes.
I always put my handles at 4 pm
I think that's how you place when you are not done with your meal or is waiting for the next dish to be served.
This is for pause
@@jmahmoud3825 no if u r not done with your meal, knife & fork is placed on 2 sides (not like 🍽, but my English is not good enough to fully describe it sorry 😂🤚)
Knife and fork???? Nope never heard of it
Ishan Ali, I use chopstick
I use fingers... Where do I put them?
Myke Rave, you put them up somebody's butthole
Ishan Ali hands
Strictly a spork only household?
*Do people actually eat like this everyday?*
Bob McCoy No, you idiot.
No.
Not really but when you go eat at a fine dining or just even casual dining restaurant, it's always like this.
Yes. In France.
Yes
Well then where do I put my chopsticks 😂
On your hair
inside your nose
@@alamfung2522 😂😂😂
Anywhere except vertically in rice like a pair of sticks of incense.
I would argue these are not table manners. Manners are codes of behaviour dictated by custom. This is demonstrating knowledge of proper place settings.
people working at buzzfeed arent that bright
Izzyboshi exactly
THANK YOU
*Don't tell me how to eat!*
CobaltBob i thought it was about barfing or slurping foods... guess not
Well I won't be dining with the Queen of England any times soon.
Jesse Weaver you definitely won’t be with that profile picture.
attempting impossible LMAO
Good news! There hasn't been a Queen of England for over 300 years.
@@Alan_Mac do you live under a rock or something?...
Same.. 😔
BUT WHAT IF YOU"re left handed......
Weirdly satisfyingly in that case you would be fucked
Weirdly satisfyingly ik
I’m left handed.. and same rules apply to me. Fork left side knife right etc
i know right, im left handed and i prefer everything the other way round lmaooo
Weirdly satisfyingly , I'm left handed
Isnt the last one, when you are finished with supper. Its placed at a 4 o'clock angle together???
DatOnePerson It is. They got it wrong lol
Yes you place it to say you’ve completed your meal, but when you place it to horizontally it means the meal was extremely good
No they just got it wrong this is set up to ease the service staff that is cleaning with plates it has nothing to do with the complimenting of the food. This is a fallacy that the dining etiquette world for Business and Professional has been trying to correct for some time!
The tips of both the fork and knife pointing to 4 o'clock in a straight horizontal position means you enjoyed your meal. To show you are finished without wanting to show that you liked or disliked the meal, the tips point towards 12 o'clock in a straight vertical position. Both utensils are side by side, not overlapping or crossing in any way.
Meg H no this is also incorrect the reason why they are placed at 4 is the cleanings service of the wait staff can simply use their thumbs and press against the fork in the knife laying side-by-side together easily clear the plate from the table. It's nothing to do with if you enjoyed the meal or not this is a fallacy that has been trying to be corrected by The Business and Professional World and is annoying not going away.
Got 4/5 just because here in Italy is wrong placing the fork & the knife at 3 o’ clockYou place them both on 6 if you finished eating(5 in england, don’t ask me why) in order to make it easier for the “possible waiter” that comes behind you to grab the plate keeping his thumb on both the knife and the fork. The triangular/crossed manner is to express that you’re still eatingP.S. here in Italy we normally have bread in a “shared” basket or directly on the table, I guessed it just because it was logical: if the glass was on the left, it wouldn’t be handy to place the bread next to it.
Yes someone else who knows the rules. That's they completely messed up!!! In the USA it 4 o'clock. you always have to know what it is that country.
Yeh when I sore the last question I was like NO!
In England when we go out to restaurants its just rude not to put the knife and fork in place when finished. If I did it the way it showed on this video, I would actually be corrected by everyone on the table asap.
Åsa S Same in Germany
Giorgio Mascherpa I learned the same
In Britain knife and fork is placed in the 6 position.
I have so much homework why am I watching this
Dd Armc ask yourself
Same lol
This is my homework tho lol
@@umar7151 same lol
I GOT 5/5.
I'd like to thank mom and dad for giving me the side eye every time I did any of these wrong 😂😂
*Manners maketh man*
lordsponge10 lol yeah Harry taught me the outside in one
OH HELL YEAH
What
Ayyyee, Kingsman🙌🏼
*proceeds to massacre a church while freebird plays*
that last one is incorrect
Piet Hein Smit The answer is A correct because if you like it your plate is empty so you place it side by side
I thought so too...
Supposed to be a cross right. They Americanised it
I always put mine at a 45 degree angle
I'm european and I swear it's defo A.
Well, it looks like my dad wasn't so wrong when he teach me all this. Yeah, I think he over did it bcoz now I cant even eat pizza without knife and fork(yup, weirdo, ik)
I grew up with this etiquette, too! I eat with my fork upside down and pointing downwards; with my finger on the bottom of the fork. I can't eat anything without doing that!
dont worry i do too haahah
Pizza with knife and fork seriously take a appointment with doctor Jk
That's not gud table manner it's like eating noodles
With spoon
Half of the world does that... And pizza was a peasant - finger food... Funny how things have turned out.
In Brazil is pretty common to eat pizza with knife and fork
I eat on the floor, sofa or bed. Y'all fancy af.
Diet Coke me too
Diet Coke me too
Same ! 😂
Eating at a table isn't fancy man
SAME!!
What about my spork?
I have an idea: Make Ladylike have to do an escape room with The Try Guys like if you agree!!!
or compete against the try guys to see who can get out faster
great idea
Yay could be really fun to see.
When Titanic taught you "Just start from the outside and work your way in"
Anyone in your 20s (& under) know all this ??
Where did you learn them? And why was it important to know for you?
Genuinely curious :)
Channel for Positivity l Understanding l Justice I'm 12 and I know 4 out of 5.
It's just common sense
Yay all 5 correct! 😄
Same :D
I only got 2
I got 4 and I'm 10 years old.
I got most wrong cause I'm left handed☺
Hound Life Vlogs who cares
I'm pretty sure the last one is wrong, at least in the UK. Cutlery is usually placed at the 5 o'clock position to indicate that you are finished and so the waiter can clear from the left. This sideways thing is wrong...
the sideways thing indicates the you ENJOYED your meal, indicating that you are finished is something different
Same in Finland, I've always been taught to place cutlery to 5 o'clock.
Got 4 right, except that last one
I've always been taught that the last one is A.
I literally never go to formal dinner parties, except like weddings, so I'd say 4/5 is pretty good.
Wait, there’s a rule for bread??
Euh... I don’t really think it is a good manner... you can kinda place it wherever you want (on a plate or on a basket, the position is irrilevant I think)
It’s only relevant to the setting of other glassware, plates and cutlery, so it doesn’t clash. For eg. The wine glass answer was your giveaway that nothing else could be placed in that spot.
Idk. But I think it was obvious since your bread isn’t going to be in the same place as your wine 😂.
This is more so fancy restaurant manners then at home...like millionaire fancy...I had a class in it a few years ago
I guess it's more important how you eat the bread than where you place it
*Eats fork.*
Half Strike lol
The bread plate is obviously the one in the middle
This is etiquette😂
It should be more like
"Do you chew with your mouth open?"
😂
ya forgot: What to do if you didn't like the chef's dish.
place your fork and knife with the tips pointing to 12 o'clock and the ends of the handles pointing to 5 and 7 (an upside down v) with your knife blade through the middle space between the two middle tines (fork points)
Meg H seriously? 😬
A glass, a plate, a spoon and a fork that is enough for me, I don't need extra stuff on my table.
xXshotzXx I just need chopsticks ;)
how you gonna cut things without a knife?
I mean the food I eat is already precut anyways.
Lucia Song Japanese AF
My dad never had time nor wanted to teach me this this. However , thanks to many articles that I red I could respond all 5 correctly
Working at a fancy Italian restaurant really gave me the edge up on this
I thought this was a "no elbows the table" type of thing & not "where do these utensils go" type of thing. I never worry about those utensils anyways, because I either don't use them or don't need multiple forks and knives.
Next on buzzfeed : How Good Are Your *insert event* Manners?
I have no table manners
Wtf did you expect from me😭😂
Same ! I have capital ZERO table manners ! 😂
I just learned all of this during my class of exploring foods and fabrics lol
If I just use my hand for eating should I put my left hand on the right side and the right hand on the left and my foot on the table?
If thats correct then I got all right 😊
Poong Poong dafuq
every culture has different table manners so these apply to a limited group of people...
like the majority of the western world, where you probably live, making this ohh so very limited.
This is a formal setting, not every culture has it, but most formal restaurants have this type of table manners.
i live in SEA, when you go restaurants, same rules applies
For the last one, I was taught that they are placed at 5 o'clock at the end of the meal.
If there's one thing being a waiter taught me 😂
Who in the actual heck made up these "manner" rules anyways? Anyone like me who uses plastic utensils and minimal plates as possible because doing dishes is death?
Why on earth would you use plastic utensils, they are terrible? Even though you need to wash up proper cutlery is so much better.
omg.. have to run water and soap over a dish.. ugggh.. can't do it.. too lazy
Heard of a dishwasher?
Uhh.. Who made them up? Royals. High class people. Loooong time ago.
Screw the environment
Sounds about white
Yep, white people have good manners and are polite, unlike you.
Annatar do u mean right
Jonny Woo But isn't it kinda true? Weren't these table manners based off of rich white nobility? Lol.
God i'm not even white but these SJWs are pure fuckers. Yes, it's white people's culture, but you're saying it in a degrading way.
So you're saying no black people have table manners? That's pretty rude.
I knew I had manners but I didn’t think I was going to get every answer right 😂
I got the last wrong because I learned to place them diagonally with the handle in the bottom right hand corner
Table manners are key
Image having notifications on for buzzfeed haha
Clorox Bleach I’d probably rather drink you than have notifications on for buzzfeed.
attempting impossible lol
4/5 thank you youtube for teaching me table manners
All 5 correct
I'm such a cliché of France 😂
I don't know my table manners, but I do know how to eat
I’m 6. Question answered.
This Little Critic lol
Amen lol
Still better manners than me lol
This Little Critic omg I saw you on daily bumps on the video when fin had a knot in his hair! wow...
I would love to see another video about manners and proper etiquette. Please and thank you.
I don't need a test to tell me my table manners are perfect, but this is like the stuff you get taught before you're even in school like seriously
A table??? Whats that?!
Big T Daddy Indian AF
The Science Lab lmaoo
Yay my Grandma did teach me something importend
I only got the bread plate one right!! It's placed on the left because the previous question said the wine 🍷 should be on the right side.
got all right, thx grandma for making get all right on a buzzfeed yt quiz 8 years later
does it really matter. honestly. does it really matter.
Daisy Daisy yes it does, so when you are around respectable people in a formal setting you don't look like a savage
in certain settings it matters a lot. clearly you are deprived of these settings and situations but do not dismiss the concept,
I got some correct, idc bout manners tho. I have a life to live and I don't care how tf i live it 😊
I guessed on all and get em correct. Except for number 5.
A 5 out of 5! And I merely guessed the last one. 😂😂😂
I remember the knife one bc if u accedently smack it u won't cut anyone lol
Oh I didnt get the last one, didnt know it should be placed like that haha!
And whats with the hate in this vid or in this channel?
Just enjoy and dont hate
Welcome to the internet
So what does the five o'clock placement of utensils mean besides being done with the meal?
I grew up with this etiquette but we always crossed our silverware at the end; so that's the one I got wrong.
mine are terrible lol why am I watching this
Who in the right mind has a flipping bread plate?!?!?! Just put it on your plate...
An Aussie Bloke honestly 😂😂😂
Table manners are very important y'all, when you go to meet someone new, you must act as polite as possible. This also applies when going go an interview, since sometimes they may ask you to go out to eat. If you have almost, if not perfect manners, it'll definitely stand out to the interviewer, getting you more chances to get a job.
I've never had in interview over dinner... what kind of jobs are you looking for?
@@ish7957 I was taught this in a class about manners, I suppose some jobs do so?
Me at dinner with others: Sitting up straight, holding utensils properly, wiping mouth with napkin
Me eating alone: Sitting in bed shoveling macaroni and cheese into my face
i use chopsticks to eat noodles
I eat alone and dont have manners
I just watch a video about table manner before this, and I got 4 right answers because the last video teach me a different way.
Got 4 out of 5, didn’t know about the direction of the knife and fork position on the plate after the meal.
I eat with my hands
c:
I got all five correct and I haven't even gone out on a formal dinner
Looks like watching the princess diaries has finally paid off
Someone need to give them some ideas to want good content they can make!! PLS!!!!
Does it really matter where your utensils are placed on the table?
Yes.
well in high class restaurants (possibly in england) im pretty sure it matters
chs75 why 😂😂😂 who tf looks at someone's knife and flip when it's on the other side??? I'll put it on my head for all I care. I'm just eating why does positioning matter
Luna L it shows you have been educated and have manners. Only uneducated people like you don’t know 😊
marmaladious 101 I don't think you can base off how educated people are solemnly on how they eat.
Video about good table manners: *holding the fork in the right hnd
I have good manners! 😂
i got 4😁😂
HeyitsLiv xo me too
Same :D
You Got No Jamsss mine's three😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I can't even afford to go to a restaurant that actually sets their tables like that.
Number 3 I only knew cause of Titanic. "Just start from the outside and work your way in." Thank you Molly Brown lmfao
5/5 turns out my Catering diploma was actually useful for something, thanks Buzzfeed
I got them all right even though I’m left handed so I mostly do all of these backwards lmao
I don't know why I was so happy that I got this right
I got all but the last one correct. Who places it like that? I was taught to put them together roughly facing 10/11 o'clock
Got all 5! Funny though but at home I only follow like two of them. All the others I only use out, and I don't drink so no need for the wine glass.
So many things they missed but these are good ones.
the last one in wrong
the ends of the fork anf the knife are soppose to be facing south east of the plate and the ends have to be out of the plate too
I never use a knife at the table, I dont drink wine,i just put spoon and fork on the plate,i put bread on the middle and I dont prepare my own plate
4/5, got the last one wrong, I usually put the utensils
On a 5-10 o'clock direction.
5/5 Mom, you better be proud hahahah
I guessed on all of them and got them all right. I also eat in my room lol.
Half the time I was thinking, "right because right-handed people"
Shipping Lord I should've thought that but my brain automatically picked the left side of things
As a brit when you have finished a meal you do cross your cutlery and when you are going to eat more you place them net to each other to let waiters know when to ask if you have finished so B is correct in Britain for no.5
Answered instinctively and got 4 of them right
Was always taught that the knife should be in your dominant hand, and the other to guide it. the laying of the cutlery should reflect that, most people are right handed so that's the standard practice.
I got 4 right. The last one was hard because I don't often or really ever go to fancy restaurants...I'm impressed with myself though honestly 😏
i dont know how it is in america, but in norway, and i presume other european countries, after we've enjoyed the meal we place the knife and fork with the handels pointing down towards 5 o'clock. just so you know if you are traveling here :)
