Funny you mention Molly, I just cannot get over the fact that Mattel wanted more female steamers, but didn’t think to bring Molly back and have her be part of the steam team. She’d make a good contrast to Emily!
Okay hear me out! If they had introduced Molly and Emily around the same time and have them both join the Steam Team when the HIT era changes took effect, then we would already have two girls at Tidmouth and the argument Mattel used for the BWBA changes, Thomas not having enough female representation, would be completely invalid.
@@rbgerald2469 Rebecca would not need to exist since we would already have a yellow female tender engine at Tidmouth. Nia? Well…. Idk….. she could either come to Sodor but not join the Steam Team, similar to Rosie, or just stay in Africa.
Emily was really overhated. I enjoyed Emily when she was introduced and I was kinda happy she was put over Duck on the Steam team (bc I think Duck would've suffered the worst out of the main cast). Your analysis was spot on.
I'm gonna be honest, Best Engine Ever is the one story where it would make sense for Emily to be self-conscience, if it simply focused on one aspect: her age. She is the oldest engine in the main cast behind Edward, and not only that, was an EXPRESS engine. If she became conscious because she thought Caitlin seemingly was everything she used to be but better, that would give her a good reason to be like that. Then, Caitlin saying how she wished she could be more like her, because of how her quick-thinking and wisdom, not her physical capabilities, would hit harder. Also it's kinda ironic how AEG gave us the best way to include Emily in TRS, as the director's saloon engine.
Brilliant and Respectful discussion. And I agree on everything you said. Emily isn’t that inconsistent. She was just kinda badly handled. Especially in the BWBA era. Plus I would love to see more Thomas Analysts Videos like this.
16:29 I almost forgot AEG existed honestly. I'm glad that the fandom had kinda moved on from complaining about AEG and gone back to making great videos like this exploring great aspects of the original series.
In my opinion I think Season 7 Emily is actually very similar to Edward with their willingness to save other engines, the fact that they were built before the 1900’s, their kind personality that only shifts when they’re trying to talk sense into another character and that Hit Entertainment barely cared that they existed and were only there because they had to. Some say Emily is a parental type figure but I don’t see it, in my opinion Emily is one of those people you know you can talk to and even though No one who made the show after season 7 understood that I will always appreciate the original Emily that is honestly a bit underrated and as for the CGI Series it didn’t have a good portrayal of her character in my opinion. Emily just kinda existed with probably one episode each season but even though in my opinion she was only great for one season I think she deserved to be apart of the main cast even if that meant her not having the same personality as before and Duck’s character ark ended in All At Sea and Emily’s ended when she became the #12. Great character analysis!
Emily might actually be the only character in the show who was handled the best in the Hit era. I really liked here being bossy and rude but still being softer than Gordon & James. She really felt like an Awdry esque character in those seasons. What exactly they were thinking when writing CGI Emily I still have no idea. She's literally the exact opposite of what she was supposed to be. People always talk about how Henry or Percy were ruined in CGI but Emily got it just as worse as those. And the funny thing is that Mattel wanted to include more female characters but they didn't even knew how to handle their previous females well. It's a shame because I really would like to see how a CGI episode would have handled her S8-12 persona.
yeah that's true brudda, in the CGI era (the later years) Emily's personality turned ALLL the way to happiness, more outgoing and not bossy anymore, like if she was being forced to be happy all the time😭😆, but in the newer years (1999-2000s i think) she had her own personality, she was like the girl that's walkin down the school hallways being quiet, and if somebody talks to her she'll get annoyed or sum. i loved her bossiness and her own way, she was kind but wanted to do her work without being bothered yk.👌
Emily is one of my favorites from season 7 and I too didn’t quite understood why there was hate on her character during Season 8+. This calm analysis gave me a new light on how she was her caring self, but she started having her flaws which I didn’t mind after I thought about it more. I liked how you highlighted how Emily means what she says, but is sometimes misunderstood that what she was hoping for. It’s something I struggle with sometimes with not knowing how to phrase what my mind is thinking.
The reason why I prefer season 8-12 Emily is that it’s a flaw she needed. I like to think that Emily is bossy and rude is cause she work along the Big Engines who are rude. So they rubbed off of her. She tries to give advice but it comes off the wrong away
As a person who loved Thomas and friends as a kid, and also that Emily was my favorite character and still is, I had no idea people hated Emily this much😕
Emily's bossyness/assertiveness is a nice character element that can be a help or a flaw depending on the situation. I like that part about her, sure it takes some balancing and work to mesh with her caring side, but it's well worth it to round off her personality.
She is bossy and demanding but I agree that she thought what was right like Thomas, Emily and the snowplow. That is a flaw like most of the characters, and her strength is that she cares for her friends (ex Percy, Henry, Oliver, Salty and I think Diesel). And she did talk some sense into Donald and Douglas as they were arguing, she can bring reason between engines. Emily is growing and I think before BWBA is has become less bossy and more helpful.
Emily is my favourite character out of everyone. I love the Stirling Single locomotives and like you said, she like a sister/mother figure to the other engines
Season 7 Emily is a great character, and thankfully Brenner restored her original personality. The HIT era sadly soured fans opinion on her. It’s sad people don’t focus on her S7 character.
Loved how you used the song in your discussion as another reason for the misconception of her character . Honestly Emily was always my favorite character from the show . She’s very misunderstood.
I personally like Emily. she isn't my overall favourite, but she is my one of my favourite female characters aside from Mavis & Rosie. i personally like her season 7 character the best as well, but her hit era character wasn't so bad either. I'd really like to see you talk more about the characters in Thomas, i think most of them are good topics to talk about!
From Hero of the Rails onwards, Emily seemed to revert back to her original personality from the seventh series. Along with shades of overconfidence, she often acts as a voice of reason, particularly when James gets too big for his wheels, or when a friend needs moral support. She has also been shown to be adaptable, able to think of a plan in a moment's notice. She is somewhat prone to jealousy or feelings of inadequacy, often longing for more excitement in her life when she hears of others' adventures, or for the same talents as them.
I love Emily in Season 7 the best! Because that's where her caring and generosity really show! That, I love so much! That's what friendships are all about.
I'll be honest. I've been a Emily fan ever since I was able to get back into the fandom. I first saw her when I was browsing Walmart in search of some of the Beast Wars anniversary toys at the time (Rattrap and Rhinox were getting released in a Transformers Generations 30th anniversary line). After I saw her when trying to look for the boys aisle, I was like "this character looks interesting". After that day, I've been rewatching the show and have fallen into the *ahem* Thomily Shipping Camp cuz I could see the chemistry between the two just as much as a few others. Doesn't hurt that some of the fics where Thomas is starting to discover he was falling in love with Emily, he gets sidetracked while talking about her to talk about her wheels much to the dismay of whomever is listening to him to help him. The joke kills me every time to the implications of what it would be on the human body. Seriously, it makes me love the pairing more cuz later on, Emily plays into Thomas's compliments about her wheels to the point where the sassiness turned suggestive. God that characterization of her is hilarious
Emily made me feel a lot of things during different times of the show. My final thoughts are that when she's written correctly, it can produce some really good episodes. But when she is written as bland or they do a complete 180 with her character, I have no interest in re-watching those episodes. I dunno if i prefer Emily over Duck, but she will never have an All at Sea.
Ngl this is my 3rd time I’ve rewatched this and i find myself noticing how you’ve brought up another point i end up agreeing with, this is a very detailed video where even when i thought something was no big deal like her arc in CAE Rewatching i was wrong for over looking this. Also FINALLY SOMEONE CALLED THAT STUPID LAUNDRY EPISODE! (and shitting on nia and rebecca got shit on a bit :)) That and it’s ironic how mattel treats all its female engines like trash
I never hated Emily she was on of my favorite characters. Also let's not forget the only time duck wad still in the main cast was in season five when season 6 came he was now a background character way beforeemily came. Yes they should kept both in my opinion. I don't hate Emily and I agree when she is over looked.
Emily along with the other season 7 newbies were introduced at the worst possible timing you can tell a big theme of season 7 was "new engines on the island" based on stuff like the five new engines in the shed song, new friends for thomas vhs/dvd and ofc dynamics set up. Season 7 clearly set up dynamics like Emily being motherly to thomas/percy and being a good friend to Henry, Oliver and Salty. Arthur and Thomas becoming friends. Fergus with the China clay twins. Gordon and Spencer's rivalry etc. They ended up only going through the last one fully when hit took over no doubt in my mind besides Fergus due to damaged model they would've actually kept all the season 7 newbies in the show if hit didn't take over
Emily is also my favourite female character. Yeah she can sometimes be bossy to Thomas in the one episode. But she is actually very nice not only to Thomas, But other engines she meets aswell. And that is one thing I like about her the most. She also helps other's when needed at the right time, And is always there to cheer them up!
I feel like if the Model Series had continued, Emily and Henry's friendship, relationship, whatever, would have been fleshed out. I see how Emily would bring out the best out of the Big Green Giant, that he only shows when he's alone in the forest. I mean, we all know that Henry can be worse than Gordon at times. But with Emily, someone who she's the best in him, Henry could have changed for the better. He'll still be the same old Henry at times, but it'd be more sparing.
well, there were some other videos that discuss about emily, such as the ones made by The Silver Bolt 22, and Thomas theorist, however i can agree that were some great moments on some parts of her hit era counterparts, despite that emily is being overhated nowadays, even with some of her flaws, she is still quite a good character during the seventh season, and some parts of the brenner area from cgi, so in my case, emily is quite decent and unique character to say the least in my point of view. yet again the only exceptions i would have from the Brenner cgi area would be her cgi whistle, along with a few episodes that were from the brenner.
I feel like the Hit era might have overused the 'Great Western Way or the wrong way' shtick as a means for Duck having the same bossy know it all role if he had stuck on instead of Emily. Heck, maybe that's why Emily got such a personality in the first place since Duck was actually planned to be in the Steam Team early on. The Brenner era did kind of exagerrate that for Duck when he came back, but that era was capable of nuance so it worked for him.
HiT Emily was the best imo. She was like the older sister, who has love for her friends but is overbearing at times. She is especially a older figure towards Thomas and Percy. Also I love how you pointed out that they literally tell you her personality in her S8 song. I was wondering why nobody caught that or mentions it.
One, Emily is SSS+ bc she's my wife full stop. Two, I really like this break down of her. I personally think that the issue with Emily is the fact that they made the "Steam Team" a thing, and once fans picked up on that, they got upset that this new character was taking up a slot that an older character like Duck could have been in. When I think that was a major flaw on the writers as a whole. TTE should have always been an ensemble cast, with the whole of sodor being the cast. Not just the locomotives at tidmouth. If anything, the fact that nearly everyone stays at tidmouth makes it kind of sad, it cuts off so many other lines and other members of the over all cast that we could see. It should have just been used *as* a location, not *the* end all be all location. Have characters rotate in and out as they need to be, like. Have Duck be the station pilot for one "week" in show, being a few EPs, so that gives him a logical reason to stay at tidmouth. Then swap him out with someone like Rosey and let him go back to the little western. So then when the mainline group is getting a little stale, we jump to the little western, or the branchlines, or narrow gage to see how the other parts of sodor are and the stories they have. Fams just hate Emily bc she wasn't RWS, she "replaced" fan fav characters, and most likely, took out some anger on her from the downgraded models, sets, stories, writing, etc. that came from the post MRR feaisco which really set TTE down the path we're at today bc it bombed so hard. Emily is a very solid character, who was just intruded at a time that fans weren't too excited for. Anyways she's the best one and I simp for her so I'll take no criticism of her at this time (lol)
I have a headcanon to the reason was “bossy” in the HIT era was because when she first came to sodor she was naïve and taken under the wings of Henry, James and Gordon to become one of them and it almost work but realize her ways after Thomas help her.
About your connection to Emily's personality with the Hit and Gulliance era. I do understand the connection you make "motherly and sensitive to others and wants what's best for them but can come of as a helicopter mum when they don't listen to her." I think the main the main issue is the the hit had a problem portraying the former half. Show more times when she is concerned for an engines well being, like what if she had told Thomas and Percy to stop maing fun of Gordon in squeek rattle and roll, or be the engine to tell the others off when they assumed Dennis was a nasty engine, especially when she was alos shunned during her first day on the island. To me, the connect feels so one sided and that's why it feels like a character shift more than an extension. Personally I liked the idea of Emily have a bit of self esteem issue, considering the engines she lives with. They don't call them the " 8 famous engines" for nothing. But having it take over due to the characters getting flanderized was a huge hand fall from Mattel To me, Emily is kind and compassionate, but isn't afriad to show off some sass especiallt when you read some of the magazine stories
Many of the characters who got flanderized during the Miller era have had their original personalities restored in this era, (except Diesel 10 of his original evilness despite that him being manipulative is very good) such as Thomas, Edward, Henry, Percy, Toby, Emily and Sir Topham Hatt. So not flanderized any more.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Many yes, but not all. Gordon (the Grumpy one) James (the smug one) Toby /Henry( the scared). Sure, there are episodes that exceptions but for the most part, no the Brenner Era did
Wow, I figured Emily would have a bit of hate but geez, wasn't expecting that much. I actually liked her since her introduction & assumed that the bossy side of her was just her being a worrywart & a bit overprotective of others. Despite just forgetting about AEG til now, her voice in it sounds like what I imagined her voice to sound like
I really adore Emily's personality in Series 7. It showed just how kind, helpful, supportive and strong minded she can be. When she turned bossy in the HiT era, it was a bit of a surprise to me. But in a way, it did bring something different to her. It showed a new side to her personality and showed she just a nice engine. She really did show she cared for her friends, but always did it in a way the others didn't always approve of. In the CGI era, I always thought her personality had gone back to her Series 7 feel. Butnthat only happened when Series 17 arrived. What I think is sad is that she didn't get many episodes to shine. I think it was because they only focused on the other engines more. They wanted more girl characters on the show, but it seemed they didn't do much of a job exploring their characters. I think Emily brought more tonthe show than anybody thinks. She had much more of a personality than we gave her credit for. If you mix her S7 and S8 personalities together, I think it would work. It would have it's own surpises, but that's the fun in finding out.
To this day it sickens me to believe that a lot of people hate her for "replacing Duck" 5:09 No, sisterly figure 10:01-10:20 I never even thought of that myself. That would've been much better than Rosie's Funfair Special. 14:02 Really, the two oldest engines in the sheds?
This is just my opinion, i feel like some of the fans are sexist or just hate the female characters, since most of them get put into a bad light especially once they replace a fan favorite or someone who we’ve seen on our screen for years, like its most the duck stans that hate Emily and wont give an actual reason on why they dislike her character, cause u basically listed every reason ive heard (the excuse of she replacing duck), but if duck was put into that lighting he would’ve most definitely would’ve been praised by the fans. I have nothing Duck at all but i really do feel like Emily on the Steam Team Felt Right and Actually she fit very well into the group being the only female for so many years, (even tho ive waited for her to get that number 12 shes been deserving since Season 8-9), i feel like she was undermined as a character and so unappreciated mostly because unless ur Daisy, Rosie, Or Mavis (You’re either Forgettable, Attacked on daily by other fans for no reason, or deserved to come back for more growth but Mattel never put time into you, (Also Hot Take: This is just my opinion I feel like nia and Rebecca would’ve been fine if Edward and henry stayed on the main cast the fans wouldn’t be coming for them had those 2 just stayed on.
JasperPie's version of Emily's character in his comic stories is an amalgamation of her previously personality traits - caring, sisterly, sassy, and not taking any garbage from anyone from both Season 7 and HIT era. What do you think?
Season 7-11, _Best Engine Ever_ and _Dowager Hatt’s Busy Day_ - ❤️ Season 13-16 👍🏻👎🏻 Season 12, 17-18, 20 and _Emily in the Middle_ - 🤷🏻♂️ Season 22-24 - 👎🏻👎🏻
I'll never like HiT Era Emily. Her flaws were too flanderised. I don't really think her being bossy is a good flaw for her. If anything, CGI Emily is better.
If I were to fit Emily into the rws I would of probably say that she was just helping out while James was being repaired after his first day she did so well the fat controller kept her] I also like to think that in the rws gordon would act like a brother to her since both of their basis were made by Doncaster
Another thing I'll point out she had the wheels to call out advice on miss.hatt (not fat controller's wife, his mom) she reminds me of my cousin when I was little
Pretty good on your opinions on the most overheated character Emily. I like Emily and her design is pretty interesting and her best actresses will have to be Jules De Jongh and Teresa gallagher. I also don't mind the character flaws that she had and the fact that her spot at Tidmouth Sheds was earned in calling all engines and then in season 24 she gains a number 12 and being a safety engine and I kind of like that. As for her appearances and all engines go decent but she doesn't even do much although I do like her voice by Kayla Lorette overall it's pretty good.
I’m so glad to know you’re a Thomas fan of common sense! I’ve never understood the hate on Emily. It just made no logical sense to me at all. Unlike with Nia and Rebecca, I found Emily‘s gender fits in well with the Steam Team, whilst not necessarily focusing on the engine’s gender. Her being a female worked with her character, if you know what I mean. I don’t necessarily hate Nia and Rebecca, I just hate the reason why they were forced in the series in this case it’s their gender than personality. Emily had faults yet the other two seem to lack faults. I believe Emily was a better choice over Duck.
Emily is my favorite character out of the steam team if I’m being honest she is amazing in every way and I do miss her bind with Henry they were almost like siblings
1:02 The TV series is canon to the books, so, Emily, 'Arry, Bert, Spencer, Murdoch, Harvey, Billy, Stafford, Neville, Jack, Alfie, Stanley, Charlie, Hiro, Whiff, Victor, and Hank, among others, are, by technicality, canon to the books.
The biggest/main reason I've seen people hate emily was mostly because she "replaced" Duck as these detractors say. I call BS on this because Duck wasn't made out to feel like a main character since season 5. When season 6 came out he was barely used that much, he had some supporting roles and was also in the background, yes he was originally going to be among the main 8 steam team members but Emily was chosen to get the detractors of thomas and friends off Hit's back because of the sexism claims even though there have been plenty of females before hit took over. Plus at least with Emily we had time to get use to her and watch her develop, unlike with Nia and Rebecca who were shoehorn into the mix that replaced two important staple characters who kicked off the railway series books.
@@ciarangleeson2880 Tell that to hit entertainment who got the bright idea to have 8 specific main characters (even though toby was hardly ever used either) and the emily detractors who still hate her for very pitiful reasons to this day.
People are obviously entitled to their opinions, but disparaging a characters very existence for their character flaws always struck me as reductive. Especially for a series like Thomas where the only consistency across ALL eras is that every character winds up with egg on their face at some point.
If I were to fit Emily into the Railway series Maybe the Hatt family could have inherited a mansion in England from a deceased relative and they go over there for the first time and find Emily as a static exhibit in the gardens as well as a NER Claude Hamilton called Molly because the deceased relative was protecting both from scrap and they've only had each other for company since their relative died and they need some repair The Fat Controller could have both Emily and Molly sent to Sodor and overhauled In the book they appear in, Thomas and Percy would wonder if female steam engines exist in the first story due to if not all of the steam engines they've met are male and they would be surprised to find out that they do exist. Both Emily and Molly could have a strong bond with each other due to being the first 2 female steam engines on Sodor as they go through their character arks and maybe both could form a bond with Gordon due to the Great Northern and Eastern Railways joining with many other railways to become the LNER. Emily and Molly could also both have a girl drama rivalry with Daisy in the RWS where Daisy acts like your typical mainland diesel to them until she gets her comeuppance
Emily was a fun character, I like her, it does suck how sometimes she can feel like a bossy jerk because she can, I like your take on her stern attitude way more
your point of if Emily was a male, she would've join Edward to be written off the Steam Team also applies to Duck. If Duck had joined the main cast, he and Edward would've been kicked out to make room for Nothing-Burgers Nia and Rebecca.
Maybe it's because she's a female in a traditionally-boys' franchise. Nowadays, that's just seen as "woke garbage", especially if she shows any kind of backbone. Look at Captain Marvel: every sad, insecure RUclipsr gets their pitchforks out whenever she appears. Or the female Ghostbusters. Or Black Widow once she got her own film. Or the second Black Panther film. Or Galadriel's increased role. Or the Thirteenth Doctor. Or Rey. Or modern Teela. I could go on. Unless they're nothing more than the damsel in distress, they're "forced feminism" who "don't know their place".
I liked Emily in season 7, and I still liked her from season 8-11 but I didn’t like her bossy pushy attitude, she came off as very rude which is why I’m glad she became kinder again in the later seasons
Though all engines go sucks, it’s sort of fixed Emily. Since she is technically like the mom of all of them, making some appearances in season one. I’m not saying that all engines go is good in anyway, but what you were saying about her being inconsistent and like not really how she was in the model era, I think that short of fixes her in the slightest.
People have been arguing about this since 2004 but personally I don't think it's fair to say Emily replaced Duck in the steam team because by the time Emily joined the steam team Duck was long gone. She didn't take anyone's space at Tidmouth sheds like Nia and Rebecca, a new shed berth was built for her.
@@randomclown5288 I never understood why Mattel replace them just add more births to the sheds it's not that hard or they make the rws roundhouse sheds
If I have any thoughts of Emily in terms of portrayal depiction. Season 7: I really like her in this final ever Classic-era Thomas season. Season 8: I understand why they wanted to make Emily stand out from her previous portrayal in Season 7, but clearly, I am indifferent to her portrayal in most of this season and I'm not wasting my breath going in full depth. Though, I do like "Halloween" and "Emily's New Route". I can easily do without "Emily's Adventure", "Thomas, Emily and the Snowplough", and "As Good as Gordon", however. Kudos to HiT for leaving Duck as an extra character, I'll say that. Season 9-11: You're getting better, I must say. Well, okay for the most part. Season 12-16: Just a one-note interchangeable imbecile like Henry and Thomas in this time. And I don't like any of her episodes from either of the five seasons. "Excellent Emily" has a premise about Emily becoming bigheaded about being excellent that I do like, but somehow, it's presentation is lame. "A Blooming Mess" has another interesting idea, but it's also flat out boring. "Pingy, Pongy, Pick-Up" is so awful, I hate this one more than "Emily's Adventure". "Emily and Dash", I've got nothing to say other than it's mediocre. "Emily's Winter Party Special" is "Topped Off Thomas" again (as pointed out by then-named Missoliverandblossom in 2012), but more boring than the former from Season 10. Season 17-24: A lot better than all the dull, bland, nonsensical crap from her once-a-season episode roles in Seasons 12-16. Emily's number 12 is deserved! Get over it! And the "adds nothing new to the table other than being a girl" thing shows how blind the fanbase is, not only can I not get over the fact this statement makes them look sexist.
Let’s say in an alternate timeline Percy is female instead of male (but still have her be named Percy and have her look and sound identical to her male counterpart in every single way) and that timeline is identical to ours (minus Percy’s gender and Edward having more starring episodes in the classic series) to where hit entertainment still buys Thomas in 2003 and creates the steam team. Who do you all think Hit would have chosen to be the 8th member? Duck or Emily?
The fandom created videos make much better use of Emily's character. The long and short, Awdry was right, the Americans spoiled everything, as toy manufacturers made a business of selling products to children through their monopoly of children programmes specifically, but that's just capitalism.
Emily is my favorite female character. I just don`t see how people can hate her, but one thing makes me wonder why so many hate Nia and Rebecca i mean they are just as good as Emily in my perspective
Funny you mention Molly,
I just cannot get over the fact that Mattel wanted more female steamers, but didn’t think to bring Molly back and have her be part of the steam team. She’d make a good contrast to Emily!

Really. Hmm that's a first time I heard someone say that.
All of think Emily is just mean.
yeah that's true brudda, in the CGI era (the later years) Emily's personality turned ALLL the way to happiness, more outgoing and not bossy anymore, like if she was being forced to be happy all the time😭😆, but in the newer years (1999-2000s i think) she had her own personality, she was like the girl that's walkin down the school hallways being quiet, and if somebody talks to her she'll get annoyed or sum. i loved her bossiness and her own way, she was kind but wanted to do her work without being bothered yk.👌
HUG ME BROTHA!!
@@JojoCat2008 HELL YEAH BRUDDA LEMME JUST GIVE YOU THE BIGGEST BIGMAC HUG EVER🤩😊
Mmmm
As a person who loved Thomas and friends as a kid, and also that Emily was my favorite character and still is, I had no idea people hated Emily this much😕
me neither
exactly, it’s very saddening tbh
That's basically how I feel about her. She's basically the big sister role of the main characters.
Season 7 Emily is a great character, and thankfully Brenner restored her original personality. The HIT era sadly soured fans opinion on her. It’s sad people don’t focus on her S7 character.
I do really like how Emily stood up for Percy. She feels like the sister of the steam team if that makes sense.
Everyone considers her as such.
Emily is the engine I relate to the most because we both mean well despite the flaw of being bossy at times.
Wow Dennis the video was amazing! It helped me see Emily a bit differently
The hate for her makes no sense.
My mom's favorite Thomas character is Emily. But, I think you're a bit right.
W MOM
hello
(and shitting on nia and rebecca got shit on a bit :)) That and it’s ironic how mattel treats all its female engines like trash
the person doing this review is right about the writers didn't see how Good Emily is as a tv series character
Love how you used Charlie and Eddie race theme
I'd love to see more videos like these! I really enjoy the analysis and overview of the character
If Nia and Rebecca became good characters in the revival era, I wonder if fans will react the same as they did with Emily in the Brenner era?
I have a headcanon to the reason was “bossy” in the HIT era was because when she first came to sodor she was naïve and taken under the wings of Henry, James and Gordon to become one of them and it almost work but realize her ways after Thomas help her.
That’s Good
About your connection to Emily's personality with the Hit and Gulliance era.
But having it take over due to the characters getting flanderized was a huge hand fall from Mattel
To me, Emily is kind and compassionate, but isn't afriad to show off some sass especiallt when you read some of the magazine stories
Sure, there are episodes that exceptions but for the most part, no the Brenner Era did
You’re thinking of Neville, not Dennis.
Finally this is such a good take omg
Wow, I figured Emily would have a bit of hate but geez, wasn't expecting that much. I actually liked her since her introduction & assumed that the bossy side of her was just her being a worrywart & a bit overprotective of others. Despite just forgetting about AEG til now, her voice in it sounds like what I imagined her voice to sound like
I like Emily in season 7 and seasons 17-21 the best since it shows her quick-thinking and resourcefulness.
I Love Emily, she is a perfect character to the show
To this day it sickens me to believe that a lot of people hate her for "replacing Duck"
5:09 No, sisterly figure
10:01-10:20 I never even thought of that myself. That would've been much better than Rosie's Funfair Special.
14:02 Really, the two oldest engines in the sheds?
Emily should have been in more movies. She should have been Involved in a lot more of the story.
@ASodorLife you make a very good point about Emily, and with that I 100% Agree with you.
Nice job man. Keep up the good work.
JasperPie's version of Emily's character in his comic stories is an amalgamation of her previously personality traits - caring, sisterly, sassy, and not taking any garbage from anyone from both Season 7 and HIT era. What do you think?
She’s my favourite character because I was born in 2002 so I literally grew up with her
Season 7-11, _Best Engine Ever_ and _Dowager Hatt’s Busy Day_ - ❤️
Season 13-16 👍🏻👎🏻
Season 12, 17-18, 20 and _Emily in the Middle_ - 🤷🏻♂️
Season 22-24 - 👎🏻👎🏻
I’d be up for more vids like this one
I totally agree, she is also one of my favourite characters too!
i remember when emily was first introduced, people hated her literally because girl
The maybe except you part is so funny
Edit: also I think I have underrated Edward alot
Happy 20th Anniversary Emily!
Not in direct continuity, it just a adaptation about the railways series's world.
If you think about it, there’s no reason that Duck and Emily couldn’t BOTH be in the Steam Team.
OMGOMGOMGOFHOGODG
THIS MADE ME WANNA BUY A PLARAIL EMLIY OMHTGD
IMA BUY 30 OF THEM
If I were to fit Emily into the Railway series
Maybe the Hatt family could have inherited a mansion in England from a deceased relative and they go over there for the first time and find Emily as a static exhibit in the gardens as well as a NER Claude Hamilton called Molly because the deceased relative was protecting both from scrap and they've only had each other for company since their relative died and they need some repair
The Fat Controller could have both Emily and Molly sent to Sodor and overhauled
In the book they appear in, Thomas and Percy would wonder if female steam engines exist in the first story due to if not all of the steam engines they've met are male and they would be surprised to find out that they do exist.
Emily and Percy are my fav engines!
How do you explain Spic and Span ?
11:23 what episode?
I hate the people who group the female characters and the desiels and put them lower then the male steam engines
To be honest, I wish EmilyandRosiefan619 was voice Acting Emily.
What's the music used in 3:27?
Please make more videos, I love your channel
I liked Emily in season 7, and I still liked her from season 8-11 but I didn’t like her bossy pushy attitude, she came off as very rude which is why I’m glad she became kinder again in the later seasons
help not the dr music lmfao
Though all engines go sucks, it’s sort of fixed Emily. Since she is technically like the mom of all of them, making some appearances in season one. I’m not saying that all engines go is good in anyway, but what you were saying about her being inconsistent and like not really how she was in the model era, I think that short of fixes her in the slightest.
I personally get scared of some of Emily's faces but I don't hate her. I think that Emily is a good character honestly
Wait people hate her?
Yes.
Yeah usually its because she replace ducks role in the steam team
@@Mr.toasterandclay that's a bit unfair, she has character to her unlike Nia and Rebecca that replaced Edward and Henry

Bruh Mattel, Edward is smiling implying that he thinks it’s funny and doesn’t back Percy up, WHHHHHHHY
I loved her so much I named my dog after her. Sadly she passed away a few years ago.
I like emily I honestly don't know why she gets so much hate
Emily is and will always be my most favorite female character in the franchise 😊.
In production of season 21 Rebecca will be moving into tidmouth sheds but was cut in production of BWBA so her introduction is rushed
in anyway, this what the canon show went with so her introduction here still feels rushed.
The fandom created videos make much better use of Emily's character.
The long and short, Awdry was right, the Americans spoiled everything, as toy manufacturers made a business of selling products to children through their monopoly of children programmes specifically, but that's just capitalism.
I like 'Emily in Thomas and friends
Hey my favorite Tomas and frends caricature used to be emly
She’s an okay character in my opinion. I’d say she’s probably like a B tier character.
Emily is my favorite female character. I just don`t see how people can hate her, but one thing makes me wonder why so many hate Nia and Rebecca i mean they are just as good as Emily in my perspective
Emily is really overhated. Her HiT Era personality is great too.
Emily should have been shown as an express engine too. Because she was.
Let's go
i can't believe ppl say emily was annoying when thomas was unbearable in almost all his episodes
