Same I’m in a fishbowl with a negative slope driveway, and my neighbor on my left is on higher ground. Adding to that our fiber lines run between our houses, the rest are all of my utilities. There’s no real swale, so the water that puddles in my side front/yard exits through his privacy fence. It could be worse, the neighbor to my rear is on even lower ground with no crown on her foundation. I have 2014 right of way.

I have this same problem in a rural area. I have watched Apple Drains many videos and have solved my problem with downspouts and catch basins going into a sump pump. The Zoeller 98 pushes the water through a discharge pipe to a nearby swale. I am a 75 yr old female, but I didn't let that stop me. Chuck gives such clear directions that I was able to do it all myself. I should have done this many yrs ago, but I didn't know how to do it, what to materials to purchase or where to get it. Chuck gave me the information and the confidence to do it. I am so grateful for his videos and I truly believe if you think you can do it, you can do it.

    WOW!!!
Note: when digging out old pipe to install a 4”drain tee( abs) ALWAYS dig out a minimum of 3X the length of drain tee you are going to install in-line, 2 main reasons
1-gives you enough play(up,down, side to side movement, plus you will have enough length in pipe so you can curve it up CLEAN OFF ALL CLAY/DIRT ( and see bottom of pipe to make sure it’s perfectly clean AT LEAST 4-6” back from where you cutout opening(5” section you remove) to install the 4” drain tee you are teeing into old or new drain line.
2- making/having extra play in drain line MAKES IT WAY EASIER to not only clean that clay and dirt of BUT ALSO allows for the newly installed fittings socket(end of fitting where it has a larger diameter to fit over pipe) to be inserted into socket at FULL depth ( the old pipe should be pushed to the end of the FITTINGS SOCKET) without digging/uncovering enough length of the pipe you wish to add fitting
It’s HIGHLY UNLIKELY THE OLD DRAIN LINE PIPE IS COMPLETELY INSIDE THE TEE’S SOCKET.
1-always dig out more pipe than you think is enough, the more room under around and the exposed length of pipe makes doing the job CORRECTLY.
2- always dig out plenty of extra pipe and dig under and around it BEFORE YOU CUT INTO THE PIPE.
3-ALWAYS clean area of pipe and the groves where TAPING WILL BE WRAPPED, NEVER TAPE A DIRTY PIPE( use tape design for French drains, thankfully they did not use duct taped)
Most of these guys video’s are well done, this one is by far one of the companys poorest and should be title how not to install a tee and point out all steps missed and remind people the more playin pipe the better, and which enough ground removed around pipe you can WRAP THE TAPE AROUND PIPE WITHOUT CUTTING IT OFF THE ROLL 1ST,that is a sign you didn’t dig out the pipe enough....
They can not justify the wrongs in this video, but they can do a voice over and point out where BEST INDUSTRY PRACTICE was NOT DONE....again, I don’t comment a lot on your video’s cause most are done with a lack of pride and attention to detail as this was.... but I will continue to call out this type of work if when I see it..... I expect the founding owner to catch this before posting. Please correct your mistake, and admit like myself no one is perfect all the time. Thanks for educating homeowners, because this line of work is done incorrectly on new construction 90% of time( they skip steps etc.)snd 60-70% on redo, and pre-existing structures, so educational video’s like most you put out help the company’s that DO IT RIGHT THE 1ST TIME.

I like how the neighbor hid the drain pipe on the other side of the fence Like nobody was going to figure out where the water was coming from. When these houses are built the contractors should be elevating the finish floor so they have pitched to work with. And they should be landscaping the sides of their property to drain water.

You sound like some of my friends, who will truck in tons of clay to build a berm, that is clearly 4 feet above the neighbor's mess, then if needed plant a few solid concrete barrier blocks, two or three high, more clay, then plant their privacy fence on top of the little berm. It has always been my understanding that the property owners were responsible for the discharge of water from their property. But living in the Midwest I have discovered that those laws were either ignored or the civil engineer missed that day in class. Water is strange, it goes in the direction that it has always flowed. You can fight it but you better use a lot of concrete and reinforcement.

We bought a new construction home on 5 acres and the ten year old home next to us sold a few months after we got here. We have a stream and low ground on that side of our property. The new neighbors who moved in were very rude and avoidant and we finally discovered the lady measuring our lot lines and one morning she had a guy in the wooded stream area. Lo and behold a buried downspout extension suddenly appeared exiting into our streambed. We asked the guy next door about it and he shrugged his shoulders like what's the big deal? The big deal is that our property is now tied to their home maintenance when it doesnt have to be. Our property line is 100 feet from their home and their yard runs downhill towards out property line and our stream. So we offered to have it moved to their side and install a pop up drain in their yard. He shrugged and said okay. We did it and then went hunting for more buried "surprises" and found one -- another downspout extension buried and running 60 feet into our property, 160 feet from their house. We told them we are going to move that one too unless they object. They didnt. We had drainage professionals do it but now I'm worried because they never go near their new pop up drains. We still have the old remnant of their pipe buried on our land and will dig them up. We think they wanted to use these buried pipes as a claim for adverse possession. It turns out that burying a downspout extension across a property line without the neighbor's approval is not illegal in my state. Of course the developer likely owned the lot at that time they were installed on the neighboring house. The area it is in is called a "drainage yard line" on my survey but it is not an easement for buried structures or people from neighboring lots. It's just a building restriction given the slope and drainage. We have the worst luck with neighbors.

I'm having a similar issue, where can I find these types of codes that say what is and isn't legal in terms of doing your own work and throwing trees/dumping water in given places??

We have very similar issue - just feel it is so unfair for one neighbor to have to pay foe another not piping their roof water away… it is one thing when it is natural water flow another when it is downspouts where that neighbor can do soemthing about it

    • @TzUuup

Just look at it as your neigh or doing you a fever and bringing it all to one spot. They could have it dispersed along the whole fence line leaving your whole house at risk. If they focus it to one spot, you can work off that one spot and have it drained. Especially if you're the one that's downhill

Can't the neighbors downspout be adjusted so that the water flows down the driveway instead of into the other neighbors yard?
My patio was getting water in the high spot at one end and I couldn't figure out why, until I noticed a neighbor had a downspout on his screen enclosure that was only a few feet away. I am going to get a downspout extender and have the bottom of the downspout changed so that the water flows to the side instead of towards my patio..This way the water will flow downwards towards his plants in

I have the same issue this is called nuisance you can actually have the townships or zoning to send a letter to your neighbors if your neighbors don’t care about water trespassing you property look up law regulations where you live !what I’m saying here you can sue them in small claim court look at your humidity level they will destroy your cello instrument, mold will grow at 70% ! Check your blood for mold another silent death 💀! Let me ask you something about one thing you forgot to do is test the system if it really works !have a great day!

my neighbor planted a tree on property line, damaging my french drain, leading to water building up near my house and making my backyard a swamp. I had to spend money to install alternate drainage, but he still has not removed the trees. the dip between our properties now has water just sitting there from the tree roots blocking outflow of water to street..thinking of going to small claims court too

    • @SeanBaker

The question is would that water come to your house regardless of it being pointed there? In my case, the answer is yes, as I am downhill.

    • @bonitab6498
      @bonitab6498 3 года назад

@@SeanBaker No I wouldn't normally get that water. After the neighbor added her gutters the water was directed at my side yard and it eroded the soil after killing the grass. I've since added back the soil and a small barrier that seems to be helping. I'm probably gonna have to add soil every year or so unless I can get something to grow. I may plant irises cause they can stand sitting in water.
