  • "I fight for the men I've held in my arms, dying on foreign soil. I fight for their wives and children, who's names I heard whispered in their last breaths. I fight for we few who did come home, only to find our country full of strangers wearing familiar faces. I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of an Empire too weak to rule them, yet brands them criminals for wanting to rule themselves! I fight so that all the fighting I've already done hasn't been for nothing. I fight... because I must." ―Ulfric Stormcloak
This is the reason why I will always join the stormcloaks. General Tullius and the imperials sucks.

  • @goofbalt
    @goofbalt 9 лет назад +953

Ulfric is High King by right. Now before I continue, let me just say - I am not alleging myself with either particular side of the civil war. I'm just stating facts. Facts that you can't ignore regardless of your personal opinion of Ulfric or the Stormcloaks.
So let's begin; In the ancient times, Nordic custom was that one man can challenge another to an honorable duel. If both men agreed, they can meet up and fight. The first to give up or die was declared the loser, and the winner was given whatever they were dueling over.
"But Ulfric walked in and killed him"
This is completely false. In game dialogue does prove that Ulfric challenged Torygg to an honorable duel, which Torygg accepted.
"Torygg had to accept, he didn't have a choice"
Yes he did. As any man has the right to challenge someone to an honorable due, any man also had the right to refuse a challenge,
"Torygg would of looked like a coward if he rejected"
Doesn't matter, he still accepted. He just put his pride over his life.
    "Using the thu'um was cheating"
This is bullshit. At the time these customs took effect, using the thu'um was not only allowed, it was praised. Even a basic shout like 'Fus Ro Dah', takes years of meditation and dedication to be able to perform. Using the thu'um was just using what you know, and it served as a testament to your dedication and strength.
"Torygg didn't know Ulfric had the thu'um"
Complete fabrication. Not only is it common knowledge that Unfric studied with the greybeards. Ulfric is a well known war hero. And it's well known he used the thu'um in the war. If Torygg didn't know, that's his fault.
"The Empire does not recognize this law"
There are no records of the Empire changing this law. I could understand why they wouldn't give Ulfric the throne, but charging him with murder while they watched Ulfric duel and kill Torygg is just ridiculous.
"This custom affects the smallest things, and no the throne"
False. Jorunn the Skald-Kind challenged his brother to the throne, and got it when he won the duel.
    Now:
"The rebellion is stupid, because it divided the Empire, and Skyrim will fall to the Thalmor. With the Empire in control, they have a chance to resume war with the Thalmor. Not to mention Ulfric is a racist"
I'm getting tired of healing this. But especially the "Ulfric's a racist" thing.
First of all, just to get it out of the way, I'm pretty sure true Nords would rather go down fighting the Thalmor than living under their rule.
Second, "they have a chance to resume the war." The war shouldn't have stopped in the first place. The Empire was winning, and they just surrendered.
*Joanna's battered legions. In the end, the main Aldmeri army in Cyrodiil was completely destroyed, The Emperor's decision to withdraw from the Imperial City 4e 174 was bloodily vindicated.*
So even if the Stormcloaks were to lose, it's more than the Empire would do.
"But Tullius said they are going to fight the Dominion?"
Well, Tullius doesn't run the entire Empire, does he?
Now onto the racism. Ulfric and the Stormcloaks are not racist. That's a very big accusation. If you think Ulfric and the Stormcloaks are racist, you have not been paying attention. You need to open up your mind on this a bit. There are only two real racists in Windhelm, Rolff and Angrenor, who were first seen bullying a Dunmer woman when you first enter the city. Other than them, what makes Stormcloaks any more racist than anyone else? And seeing people immediately changing factions just because of these two fuckers makes me cringe. So I really need to get this off my mind.
First of all, if Ulfric truly was a racist, then why would he let Altmer and Imperials live nice lives within his city and lands? If he really was racist, you would think he would be treating the Altmer (Race of which the Aldmeri Dominion is centered around and consists mainly of) and the Imperials (Race of which the Imperial Legion is centered around and consists mainly of) worse than the Dunmer and Argonians. But there are Altmer and Imperials living wonderful lives within his city (For example: Niranye and Viola). This is because, unlike the Dunmer in the Grey Quarter, they actually contribute (I'll touch on that as this goes on).
Speaking of the Dunmer, many Imperials also like to use them being in the Grey Quarter to further their argument. But have you not noticed Belyn Hlaalu? He's a Dunmer who lives a nice life on a nice farm on Ulfric's land. If he wanted to, Ulfric could take that farm from Belyn with a snap of his fingers. Belyn contributes to the Stormcloak cause in Windhelm. This is proved when he says "The only way to win the Nord's respect is through hard work." Indicating that he is working for the Nords who occupy Windhelm, aka the Stormcloaks. He also says "Too many Dunmer complain about the way we're treated. What good does complaining do?" I agree. I don't see those Dunmer in the Grey Quarter doing anything to help out, if they did, they would be living a life similar to that of Mr. Hlaalu. He helps out the Stormcloaks, so he gets to live a nice life. Have you also considered that Ulfric is a bit busy with a war and then preparing for a bigger war to spend a large amount of money on renovating a quarter of a city filled with people who don't even contribute?
    Now moving onto the Argonians.
You also see people condemn Ulfric for keeping the Argonians out of Windhelm. But last time I checked, Brunwulf Free-Winter (Whom becomes Jarl should the Legion win) also keeps them out and his reasoning is that "they must remain outside for their own safety". Have you not considered that maybe that's why Ulfric keeps them out? It appears not. Nothing changes for the Argonians when the Imperials take over. Does that make the Imperials racist as well?
Ulfric respects anyone who supports the Stormcloak cause, regardless of race. Also, let's not forget the fact that Nords are a naturally proud race, but that doesn't make them racist.
And finally, to the people who read the Thalmor dossier on Ulfric Stormcloak and immediately assume he's a spy.
So many people read that and don't understand what it is saying. They call him an asset because his actions are inadvertently helping the Thalmor. They captured him and tortured him for info during the last war. Then they let him escape so that he could stir up trouble with his unrest over the Talos ban. Does no one read the "uncooperative" part? It means he's not trying to help them. His actions just happen to benefit the Thalmor since a civil war gives them time to gain strength and take over at a later date. But if the Stormcloaks win it will still be bad for the Thalmor. The dossier says as much.
People who say Ulfric is a spy really don't understand the context of that report.
I hope this helped to enlighten whoever read it at least a little.

    • @augginator123
      @augginator123 10 лет назад +91

Spikem59 Here is simple, concrete, in-game evidence that the "Stormcloaks are racist" argument is total bullshit; *a high elf merchant runs a successful business and lives in the rich part of Windhelm*. She is not discriminated against by Ulfric, nor is the player if they don't play a Nord. There are 2 reasons the Dunmer live in a slum and are hated by many of the Nords in Windhelm, and neither of them have anything to do with racism:
      A) they're refugees, meaning they take up valuable resources during a time of war
      B) they refuse to fight in the rebellion.
I mean, it's not hard to understand why a Stormcloak supporter would resent the Dunmer of Windhelm; Ulfric diverts resources that could've gone towards the war effort to provide the Dunmer refugees with shelter and protection, while the Dunmer claim that this isn't their war to fight and complain that Ulfric isn't doing enough for them.
They want all of the privileges that come with being a first-class citizen without any of the responsibilities.

    • @Spikem59
      @Spikem59 10 лет назад +48

augginator123 Exactly! The Dunmer are used to every other race sucking up to them, and getting it the easy way like they did in Morrowind. But that can't be done in a city where they're fighting a war, without the support of a rich empire! A citizen earns their keep in a place like that, and the Dunmer are too lazy to do that. And so, they call Ulfric "racist" because he won't hand them first-class citizenship living conditions for free.
I WOULD say just move the Dunmer to the docks, and Argonians to the city, but we all know how that would go. The Dunmer wouldn't accept that, and there'd be a revolt. The Saxhleel at least accept the docks and won't refuse dock work, so they're best placed there.

      That's not the only example:
-EVERY altmer is successful and well-respected in Windhelm. A wealthy goods merchant, a wealthy stablemaster, and a wealthy (and legendary) alchemist are all well-beloved citizens of Windhelm
-There's also ONE dunmer whose successful, and he roasts the rest of his own kind by mocking "While my brothers harp on about "injustices", i work to put food on the table". He's the ONLY dunmer who integrated like the altmer and he's so successful that he hires Nords to work his farm.
-the Argonians not only have racial rivalry with the dunmer, but most of them also cause trouble. They brag about stealing cargo, yet complain about the Shatter Shields not paying them enough. Jeez, i wonder why they don't pay the cargo-stealing troublemakers much. Sha'vee doesn't deserve to live with those hypocrites and skooma addicts.
Plus, this is Elder Scrolls. Everyone is racist to everyone. In fact, the Nords so far have the most tolerant depiction of any Elder Scrolls location game, making them ironically the least racist people by far. Hell, the freaking Dragonborn DLC has the entire dunmer populace of Solsteim be racist assholes until their asses get saved multiple times.

the only reason to join the imperials is cause the empire is the only one with any hope of stopping the high elves. if you think the nords or the imperials are racist, wait until you live under the rule of the aldmeri dominion. some say they even kill their own babies if they're not genetically good enough.
not only that, there's also speculation that the aldmeri dominion wants to UNMAKE ALL of reality itself. that would mean killing every single person in the world. so it's kind of a big deal.
a united empire could stop the dominion, a united skyrim alone could not. skyrim might be able to hold out against the dominion for a while, maybe even decades due to the rugged terrain of skyrim. but time isn't even an issue for the high elves--they live a few hundred years on average, some of them even thousands of years. ulfric will be dead within 50 years, at the absolute most.
the high elves WILL crush skyrim eventually. the nords are just nowhere near as powerful as they were in the merethic and first era, when they were the top dogs. back then they had thousands of troops with thu'um better than ulfric running around, and many chieftans who were almost as strong as the dragonborn himself with the voice. some of them even WERE dragonborns!
which would make them capable of being as strong as your character. i don't know about you, but my character is so strong he could probably kill thousands of NPCs singlehandedly if i played my cards right. and think about it, alduin destroyed an entire town full of imperial soldiers singlehandedly. you beat alduin in a 1v1, which means the dragonborn is canonically capable of doing the same kind of destruction.

*The Empire was founded by Tiber Septim yet Titus Mede bent over and surrendered the history and religion cherished most by the very people they would then go to and open the gates of oppression to.*
Are you an idiot? The Empire never did that, they signed a treaty... *TREATY*, even Ulfric was obedient after the treaty was signed, and no one gives a fuck about the banning of Talos or enforced until Ulfric gave the Thalmor a valid reason to enforce the laws the Empire has not.
*Thalmor openly roam Skyrim, taking Nords prisoners to be carted north to their embassy and tortured/executed for holding onto their religious belief while the Empire sits there shaking like a leaf under the whip of the Dominion, while acting like they own the Nords of Skyrim, and almost seem shocked that they don't very much like the idea of being ruled by the Elves because of a war that they didn't lose. "The Dominion may have defeated the Empire, but it has not defeated Skyrim!" -Ulfric Stormcloak.*
Markarth Incident - The Empire, despite they were uncooperative with the terms of the WGC once, cannot do anything to the Thalmor because their agenda is based on the WGC. Plus the "Empire" wasn't defeated, again, they signed a *TREATY* with the Dominion.
*Hammerfell is in a strong rebellion against the Dominion as well- and has ties to Skyrim.*
Their belief and agenda are in a complete difference. The Redguards only fought the Dominion in a standstill, meaning the Dominion was the aggressors. In the end, the Redguards never defeated the Dominion, and vice versa.
Back to their beliefs and difference. The Redguards believe that the Dominion could have been destroyed in Hammerfell if the combined force of the Imperial Legion and Redguards still exists, not to mention General Decanius's force weakened the Dominion's troops in Hammerfell before they depart for the Battle of the Red Wing. Difference? Despite there were still Imperials in Hammerfell, the Redguards did not attack them, instead, defend their territories against the Dominion. And they more likely fought along side with the Empire in the next great war, but I did not say "join the Empire again".
*Morrowind, though distasteful towards Nords owe them a great debt after the disaster of Red Mountain- and how the Nords opened Skyrim up for them to enter.*
That was Torygg's father's decision, Ulfric killed his son in return. Solstheim, being part of Skyrim's territory, was an Imperial colony to begin with, in there, at least there were no Nords to harass them.
*Lets not forget that it was due to their hatred for the Nords that they segregated themselves to the Grey quarter after denying homage in the sky district, and it is to avoid social war that the Argonians are kept outside and away from the dunmer.*
This is false if we have a Riften were every race get along with each other.
*Either way, if the Stormcloaks take Skyrim, it is likely that they can form alliance with Hammerfell and possibly Morrowind, and clash with the Dominion successfully.*
Nope, alliance will more likely be the Empire and the Redguards, even though the Redguards hate the Imperials (Note: Before the Empire removed Hammerfell as their territory, Redguard legionnaires were sent home so that they could fight for their people and there were still Imperials in Hammerfell).
What can the Stormcloaks provide for Hammerfell? Redguards are naturally talented warriors, Stormcloaks are peasants and farmers fighting for their homeland which in truth, declaring war with the Empire. Skyrim's food resource would be reduced if the Stormcloaks won, the ECC will never dock shipments and trade with Skyrim, one Argonian even said that the ECC won't dock ships in Windhelm anymore. Of course I have a point, the Nords will ask for food in Hammerfell. And the neighboring provinces will possibly not trade with Skyrim, for a reason.
-High Rock sees Nords as barbarians and improper, and is a part of the Empire.
-Morrowind's resource is utterly destroyed due to the corruption of the Red mountain
      -Solstheim doesn't contribute anything
-Hammerfell, Nords invaded Hammerfell and controlled one or two of their cities.
*If the Empire takes Skyrim, then the Dominion has a convenient pincer attack position to take Hammerfell and before you know it they'll basically be the world power, having felled the Empire and having watched the straggling Imperials cut the heart out of the most likely defense against the Dominion's tyranny.*
Dominion = Army, Thalmor = Agents
And again! they signed a treaty; Treaty of Stros M'kai.
And again! the Dominion signed a treaty with the Empire, not "conquer it", if they did, we wouldn't be having Imperial Legion in Skyrim, since their goals is the destruction of mankind and Lorkhan.
*Ulfric isn't the terrorist racist pretender usurper weakling that Imperial loyalists tend to blindly paint him as.*
Oh yes he is. He, instead of killing the Thalmor agents, who he brought to Skyrim, ignored them. He could have attack the Thalmor directly, still a bad decision, why?
The WGC treaty will be broken, the Redguards will betray the TSM, punch the person when he punched the other. From the beginning, it was Empire vs Dominion, if another great war broke out. It will be Empire vs Stormcloaks vs Redguards vs Dominion, difference is, is that the human factions won't be able to help each other due to different agenda and propaganda.
*He's a Nord, fighting for his homeland and what he believes to be a cause that can lead not only to the freedom of Skyrim but an edge against the Dominion.*
He wasn't fighting for his homeland. He fights for power, who's an idiot who plans to invade Alinor without power.

      "Banned but wasn't enforced"
It was enforced. What do you think all of the Justiciar where there for? Sight seeing?
" fuck about the banning of Talos or enforced until Ulfric gave the Thalmor a valid reason to enforce the laws the Empire has not."
Again this is fundamentally false. The Thalmor always had a reason to enforce it and they did enforce it. They murdered, i'm sorry "disappeared" anyone they caught worshiping Talos. Their reasons for doing so, is they see the creation of Nirn and mortality as a great mistake. And see the removal of Talos as a important step in ending the world, and thus returning to Aetherius. They didn't ban Talos worship on a whim, they take it vary seriously.
"Skyrim's food resource would be reduced if the Stormcloaks won, the ECC will never dock shipments and trade with Skyrim"
Have you paid attention to any of the dialog renegading the east empire company? They trade with everyone, and I do mean everyone. They didn't shut down their shiping to windhelm for any ideological reason. They did it because Pirates where interrupting their trade, and reopened when the pirates where taken care of (there is a quest for that). The emporors own cousin trades with the empires worse enamy, that is who little fucks the EPC gives about who they trade with. They idea that Skyrim will miss out on trade of the Stormcloaks win is false. There really is no downside to succeeding from the empire.
"Oh yes he is. He, instead of killing the Thalmor agents, who he brought to Skyrim, ignored them. "
He didn't bring them to Skyrim, the empire brought them to Skyrim. There is a reason Thalmor agents are disabled once Stormcloaks take a city (such as Markarth). They kick them out.
People greatly overestimate the threat of the threat of Aldmeri Dominion. Sines the return of Ysgramor the elves have been steadily losing territory. Contrary to popular belief almost all humans in Tamriel are descended from Ysgramor's 500 not just Nords. Humans have a fundamental advantage, they bread at many times the speed of the eleven races. The Dominion can't replace the men the lost at war, it will take them over a century to replenish the men the lost when their army was destroyed at the end of the great war. They are fighting a war against time, and against history. Humans have lost many wars, and many battles, but in the end they always recovered. When elves suffer a defeat, they is a good chance they will never recover. Which is why their are so many extinct eleven races, and why Humans have gained so much territory. They are fighting a losing battle.

Alderman Xalvador //Kings Council// #Caeronvar Ulfric surrendered during the Imperial Ambush because he knew that they were cornered and didn't want his men to die for nothing. He thought that he would be brought to Cyrodil for a fair trial but that asshole Tullius brought him to Helgen for a summary execution instead. Ulfric didn't surrender out if cowardice, he surrendered because he wanted to save the lives of his men.

unecessary to be indipendent from another nation now bringing more harm than good?
remember that for the Nords Talos is vital and being in nation that bans the worship of Talos is an insult
he hates the empire because it works with the elves, giving them the right to do whatever they want, even dragging away his people from their homes,he can't stand that
he's not a bloodthirsty savage and doesn't want to destroy Skyrim, quite the contrary, his project is to rebuild Skyrim back to her glory,he's very patriotic and cares about the land
he's not racist for talos sake
he lets other races inside his own city, the argonians live in the docks and prevent them from fightning the dunmer, they can't stand each other,if he would be racist, the dark elves wouldn't even be in the city
the only two that are racist is rilf stone fist and the beggar war veteran
Ulfric gives the dark elves shelter and food, but they don't want to fight or help the city in anyway, but they pretend to be treated like first class citizens
the nords are suspicious of outsiders that don't work hard
The Khajiit are not allowed in whiterun as well,so by that logic is Jarl Bargruulf racist?
he doesn't like to fight, listen to his quote
Galmar Stone-Fist:when the day words are enough it will be the day that soldiers like us will no longer be needed'
Ulfric:I would gladly retire from the world. Were such a day to dawn

why he should care about the guys wanting to support the empire and their censorship?
they're just a thorn in Skyrim's side that will get Skyrim worse and easier for the thalmor to conquer
      like the Battleborns
they helped and cooperated with the Thalmor into getting Thorald Gray-mane prisoner of the thalmor,if that information was made public, the jarl will have to expel the battleborns from Whiterun
i would send them to the chopping block for treason against Skyrim and her people
the neutrals wouldn't care about Ulfric being high king, but not really bothered with it
many nords are in the legion, yes, but
1)because their father.grandfather were legionnaries, but in their heart know that Skyrim is their home and should fight for it
2)because they worship talos and hope that becoming a legionnare would make them harder to suspect
Ulfric was a legionnare,Thongvor Silver-blood was legionnare,Vignar Gray-mane was a legionnare,Galmar Stone-Fist was a legionnare and were proud to be part of it,until the emperor decided to cooperate with the same guys destroying it,outlawing Talos
Once the CIvil war is over in favour of the Stormcloaks,Skyrim will be indipendent from the empire, allowing to do things that before they couldn't do,such as rebuild Skyrim, declare Talos worship legal again
and plan the war against the Thalmor
the people wants for Skyrim to be indipendent, many want this,The Riverwood blacksmith is presuming that Ulfric just wants to be High King
half of Skyrim agrees with him at the start of the game, and he has many supporters in the other empire-controlled holds, even some of the imperial jarls sympathize with his cause
he's considered from many nords the example of 'true Nord'
putting Maven Black-briar as jarl is a reason enough to dislike the empire
isn't what the empire is doing selfish as well?
oppressing the people with the Talos ban,Thalmor free of interrogate everyone
taking away their freedom because some goddamned emperor decided so.
i loved the scene of the markarth city stormcloak mission with the thalmor agent
      Galmar:Not so fast elf
Ondolemar:i guess that you're talking to me?
      Galmar:On your knees elf
Ondolemar:Enjoys this while you can, soon all of you will be slaves
      Galmar:*axes the thalmor*
Galmar: Someone get that thing out of here and burn it
a quote from Galmar when asked if he opposes the non-nord races
"I oppose tyranny. I oppose those who tell me how to live, what to think, and what to believe. I'm a man. Skyrim is man's homeland. That's a fact. A fact I'm proud of. There's no shame in that. Read your history"

Grim Reaper Well, I thought of it this way:
      * Aldmeri Dominion tells the empire they have two choices: War or Treaty on their terms.
      * Empire chooses War.
      * Empire loses horribly.
      * Aldmeri Dominion again gives the empire two choices:
      1. Continue the war, which has already devastated the country and killed so many people that there's literally no chance of winning at this point.
      2. Sign the damn treaty, and work on rebuilding the country (until they're strong enough to fight back successfully).
I don't know about you, but I'd rather pick the option that lets the country limp away in defeat than have every last man, woman, and child fight to the death in a war that's currently impossible to win.
So, to me, the empire did the right thing.
The Stormcloaks have the right idea that they should be able to worship Talos as they please. They have the right idea that the damn Thalmor should gtfo of Skyrim.
But this is not the time to do so. Skyrim, and the rest of the empire, are still recovering. If the Stormcloaks win, then the Aldmeri Dominion is going to declare war on them immediately after they've just finished this civil war, which probably devastated their country even further. The Aldmeri Dominion _knows_ they are weak from the war, as well as the dragons. They _know_ that this is the perfect time to strike. There is no way they are going to pass up this chance.
If Skyrim had done this immediately after the White-Gold Concordat was signed like Hammerfell did, then maybe they would have had a chance, and maybe I would have sided with the Stormcloaks.
But 36 years passed before this. The Aldmeri Dominion had time to recover from their War with the Empire and Hammerfell. Furthermore, Hammerfell did not have to fight a long and drawn out civil war with the Empire prior to their war with the Altmer. Titus II just said, "Oh, you want to keep fighting? Fine, fight them, but you're not part of this empire anymore." Not to mention the fact that Hammerfell didn't have to deal with dragons as well.
*tl;dr:* I agree with the Stormcloaks on principal, but their timing sucks, so I have to side with the empire.

+KoyasuNoBara The Thalmor don't really want either side to win, they just wanna toy around with the stalemate so as much people die as possible.
But besides any of that, the Civil War isn't something that will determine the future of Tamriel, otherwise Bethesda would make sure the true villians are well-defined from the start. Chances are, some big disaster is gonna interrupt the war and fuck both sides up, and the Thalmor will end up in the perfect position to take the Ruby Throne.

well first of all how would the storm cloaks win without the dragon born? Also the dragon born still can choose the imperials and be much stronger. Also even at the end of the civil war a lot is revealed, the aldmeri dominion was funding the war to keep the empire weak ie they would have easily gone for the kill if the storm cloaks won. General Tulius being a person from Cyrodill didn’t care for different customs, he cared for what he needed to do (stop the stormcloaks in order to strengthen and take out the dominion). At first glance these statements could easily fool people because of its lack of details, clearly a propaganda technique, but diving deeper into the conflict and reading in game dialogue and texts you can see who is truly right.

    Reasons for joining The Stormcloaks:
    Blue is better than red
    Beards are cool
Big, brawny old Kings are better than sickly looking, elderly Generals
    and lastly this:
"I fight for my people impoverished to pay the debts of an empire too weak to rule them, yet brands them criminals for wanting to rule themselves."
Let's face it, the Stormcloaks embody everything that the Empire is not: strong, determined, and independent. The Empire is basically a tool being used by the Dominion. Skyrim, under Stormcloak leadership, would be no such thing, considering that he already betrayed and severed all ties with Elenwen and the Thalmor.
I think if Skyrim as a single independent state stood up against the Dominion it would inspire the other provinces like High Rock and Hammerfell to rise up against the Dominion and perhaps form a new Empire with Stormcloak as its Emperor. Eventually Cyrodiil would probably be inducted into this new Empire, given that this new Empire wins the fight against the Elves.

One could say that the Empire and Imperials like Thalmor even less than Stormcloaks - the choice between Empire and Stormcloaks is between a Skyrim that can resist the Thalmor until it's strong enough to defeat it, and a Skyrim that is easy prey for Thalmor.

I think you underestimate the strength of Skyrim. Assuming the Stormcloaks won in cannon, that would mean they have the support of the Dragonborn and possibly many of the Dragonborn's allies. Think of all the potential power that might come to the help of the Dragonborn should they ask for it. The Dawnguard, Durnheviir, Odahviing, maybe other allied Dragons. In the main quest, Delphine is already familiar with Ulfric Stormcloak, and now that the Septims are dead and the Penitus Oculatus have formed, the re-formed Blades could be a potential ally. Not to mention the unrest may have been what was keeping many denizens of Skyrim from taking up Ulfric's cause.

Cosmic Spark Dude please open your Skyrim map, what do you see in the western, eastern and southern corners of the map? MOUNTAINS! There are only really narrow roads that the Thalmor could use to transport their troops (and to do so the Empire would need to allow them to use it, and i doubt that their hatred for a free skyrim is bigger than their hatred for their Thalmor) and even if the Empire allowed them it would be really easy to exterminate the dominion troops, since one avalanche would not only kill a lot of soldiers but would also would make it impossible for the Thalmor to provide support for their remaining troops, and i believe Ulfric's Fus Roh Dah is more than enough to cause and avalanche (i'm not even considering the dragonborn would help the stormcloaks, because if so he would probrably be able to wipe the Aldmeri Dominion on his own, given how many dragons are backing him up) so the only way the Thalmor could possibly try to attack Skyrim would be by sea, which is also a bad idea, since they would have to travel many miles to reach skyrim's coast (Summerset Isles are REALLY far from Skyrim bro) and thus, their reinforcements and supplies would take too much before arrive, meaning the deployed troops would have a really hard time, especially if you consider the facts that Summerset Isles are hot and Skyrim is damn cold, it would pay to see how those fragile high elve mages would manage to survive, unless they waste all their magicka trying to keep the whole army warm... but i don't know how they would possibly manage to do so when the nords come with their blades and axes with battles cries and everything else. Skyrim itself is a goddam perfect fortress, unless they somehow manage to go flying there is no way the Thalmor would ever be able to take Skyrim...

Ulfric challenge the High king to a duel and he accepted. Theirs a difference between killing someone and murdering them. Once the High King established a verbal agreement indicating that he accepts the challenge it no longer becomes murder. The Thu'um is not a forbidden form of magic. It is an ancient form of Nordic magic and because Ulfric challenge him to an ancient traditions of the Nords it was allowed to be used.

Ulfric is respectable in a way. He's definitely a patriot looking out for the greater good of his people. People whose virtues he embodies: Courage, leadership, duty, ferocity in battle, compassion for his subjects, loyalty to his comrades, willpower and a measure of hard-won wisdom.
If I were ever to play this game, I'd play Imperial side, but only because that's my choice. I also think I would speak of Ulfric (or to him when I fight him) with the utmost respect.

Ulfric also dishonours a tradition of the Greybeards, by using the Thu'um, an art only trained by the Greybeards in present day Skyrim, outside of worship of Kyne, odd thing for a man of tradition to do. Still, Elisif isn't that great either, her only claim is that she married Torygg, she doesn't seem like she'd be a good Queen either, relying heavily on Falk Firebeard to prevent her from making rash decisions.

He isn’t stupid and he has good intentions, its just he isn’t exactly fit for the job but was the only one that stood up to do anything.
He gets too engrossed in one thing at a time and multiple problems arise from him being too careless about anything that doesn’t directly help the stormcloaks.
This negligence is a large reason why the Dunmer of Windhelm feel unheard or racism goes unchecked when Ulfric isn’t in the room.
He’s the wrong man with the right intentions, his passion is powerful and his speech is compelling but his ability to unite others is lacking.
I prefer to stay neutral on the civil war questline since both options end poorly but I think by far, Ulfric is better man out of him or General Tulius.

    • @dwight3555
      @dwight3555 2 года назад

Ulfric isn't the wrong man at all. The Dunmer and Brunwulf are at fault:
      - the Dunmer for being ungrateful bastards refusing to integrate when they arrived 150 years before Ulfric was even born, yet they're blaming him for their laziness and hatred of outsiders (the owner of the dunmer inn basically tells you to fuck off if you enter, and he doesn't care at all about the death of the Nord woman Susan who was friendly towards the Dunmer and even recommended his inn).
The Dunmer in Riften are much much more integrated, you think Riften is a heaven then? No, it's that the dunmer who came there weren't entitled assholes expecting the Nord to basically rebuild Morrowind for them on their own land to give it to them. They came to work and they respect the Nords so they're respected too.
      - Brunwulf for being a disgusting political agitator spreading racial tensions on purpose to take over while he doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself, uses the Dunmer for his own gain while lying to them and us constantly: he never speaks to Ulfric or enters the palace, his "caravans of refugees attacked" have 0 proof or even other testimonies beyond him and he sends you to a random place that has no mark of that whatsoever, he doesn't help the Argonians get in the city after he takes over and he still blames the Nords for it to continue dividing people...
Ulfric has united half the entire province under his banner, despite the Empire lying, torturing and executing as much political dissent as possible, Ulfric is a goddamn hero of diplomacy for this accomplishment, and he's a wise man for not wasting his time debating with liars aka the Empire as they never keep their words, as they've proved by locking him up after he conquered the Reach for them and was rewarded with torture in Thalmor jails.
Everything people both irl and in Skyrim hold against him is an Imperial lie that is easy to dismiss and was made because on an honest basis/debate, Ulfric is absolutely right on every single account and the Empire clearly has no place anymore in Skyrim.
Tullius indeed is more racist, he hates the Nords so much he caused the deaths of thousands of men and lost dozens of battles and positions because he keeps seeing them as stupid beasts and doesn't listen to Rikke, who spends all her time preventing his own soldiers from killing him after hearing him go "Soguardven? I don't care about what you stupid animals believe in, I just wanna go back to a civilized province that doesn't smell like mead and piss everywhere"
Argonians aren't allowed in Windhelm because the history between them and the Dunmer is one of slavery by the Dunmer and revenge genocide by the Argonians, and the Argonians being far fewer in Windhelm than the Dunmer, they'd get killed on the spot if they entered the city. As a reminder, the Dunmer woman harassed when you first enter Windhelm is the only Dunmer that interacts with those Argonians, and what does she do? She starves them to teach them lessons and controls them through drug trade when she isn't busy telling them to "move their lazy tail" or calling them "filthy".

Ulfric is mad because of the banning of White-gold concordant, aka banning of worshipping talos. Although the empire agree to the terms, they dont enforce it at all because they are preparing for a second war. That's why rikke secretly praises talos, why she ignores questions about thalmor because she cant make any open statements without getting into trouble, and why you dont see anyone worshipping talos in jail. Can someone please provide me with an example of his racism? The Dunmer in Grey Quarter chose not to participate in town activities or wars and make their own clan. Of course they end up excluded. I'd say the only thing that makes him seem like a racist is his hatred for the Thalmor... And because what he went through, can you blame him? The majority of Tamriel are racist to some degree. And, like Ulfric says, he killed the High King in a fair combat. He challenged the king, and the king accepted, knowing what may be the outcome. Using his voice may have been his mistake, but everyone makes mistakes. Surrendering to the Aldmeri Dominion, even when they had a chance at winning the war, was a terrible mistake committed by the Empire. So now who exactly is the coward here?

The reason why he doesn't help non-Nord groups like Brynjolf Free-Winter states is shown during an idle dialogue between Ulfric and Jorleif, where Jorleif asks why Ulfric isn't expanding his aid and Ulfric responds by pointing out that the only people who support him consist of Nords and the rest don't return his kindness so he doesn't bother wasting scarce resources on them.
He never says a single racist line, too, despite Tulius saying anti-Nord racial slurs and mockeries every 2-3 lines to the point where literally every conversation he has with Rikke is her trying to correct his racist stereotyping.

This is why ULFRIC is doing a right thing.Because if you read the lore Jurgen Windcaller got fucked when he lead his army to the Red Mountain and battle (if you do not know, that specific mountain is in Morrowwind)After he got rekt, the gods told him that they actually wanted him to get REKT cause he wasn't using the voice in a right way because he was using it for war.But ULFRIC was actually a student of the Greybeards and he soon quit to fight for the Stormcloaks. He did not get contacted by the gods or got rekt.So that means that the gods and the divines want the Stormcloaks to win.

The Aldmeri Dominion and its Thalmor masters are playing you both against each other like children's toys. _They_ are the true masterminds behind this conflict, and their ultimate aim is to _erase Mundus and Nirn from existence,_ because they're delusional enough to believe that with the races of Man and Beast gone, they will regain eternal life! Don't do their job for them--_unite as one and fight to thwart their evil purpose!_ So declares the Dovahkiin!"

I like both sides, but helping the Stormcloaks really feels like you are basically surrendering to the Dominion.
I'll explore this point. If Skyrim is independent, other provinces of Tamriel will likely follow the example given how weakend the empire felt in the Forth Era (Even more so if Titus Mede is killed by the Listener in the Dark Brotherhood questline), which in the end will shatter any realistic way of dealing with the Aldemri Dominion without a much crude and brutish war between the former empire of Tamriel and the Summerset Isles.

@@pilotero3898 Skyrim was the only other area still under the empire, but still it set up in a way where neither decision is better than the next, both have basically the same level of pros and cons and that emperor was the one who decided to surrender when the war was more or less even so him being dead is not as big a hit as you think, only when it comes to his succession and rebuilding the empire but war wise he was just a figure head

Oh, shut your Stormcloak mouth. General Tullius is the most successful military governor the Empire has had in a long time. You think the Empire is behind the uprising? The Stormcloaks are fools, if they go against the Concordat. The Emperor saw fit to sign the peace treaty, as they were no match for the Dominion. Clearly outmatched, they had no choice. It's not the Empire's fault. If there's anyone the Stormcloaks should be against, it's the Aldmeri Dominion. The Emperor made a wise move, agreeing to the terms of the White-Gold Concordat. If not, where would Skyrim be, this day? It was only by the Concordat, that the regions under the Empire are safe. Or else, they would be destroyed by the Dominion.

Its probally going to the Thalmor winning the second great war because an isolated Skyrim is much easier to take with the right magic to use. Also If Thalmor rule Tamriel you will likeley be a prisoner on Alinor who has to crush the Thalmor from the inside instead of open battle.

    • @GenericUsername-qp1ww

would make sense, its obvious Bethesda introduced the Thalmor in Skyrim to introduce us to the antagonist of the last game and the game isnt exactly subtle at alluding to how the Thalmor are one of the biggest threats to Tamriel.
Its kinda like Corypheus in DA2 and DA:I, in DA2 he was introduced in a DLC and in DA:I he was the main antagonist so I think the Thalmor will follow the same path.

An addition... If you ask Niranye (An Altmer) "Are you treated as badly as the Dark Elves?" she replies by saying "It was difficult at first. The Nords of this city are, at best, suspicious of outsiders. But in time I made the right friends and proved myself useful enough that they don't give me trouble anymore. The Dunmer are too proud and naive to see the way things truly are, and so they continue to dwell in that slum." So the dark elves essentially put themselves in this position.

I really wished the Empire and Stormcloaks just teamed up to sock it to the Aldmeri bastards that were responsible for all the problems in the first place. I felt bad having to side with either side and destroying the other, but ultimately, I went with the Stormcloaks. No major disrespect to the Empire, but they let the Aldmeri walk all over them to such a degree that I can't blame the people of Skyrim having enough of it.
The discrimination sucks, but let's not pretend the Empire are paragons in this regard. And the Stormcloaks are Martin Luther King in comparison to the Aldmeri.
