The Navi and speedy are both incredible chronographs. Blows my mind that the Daytona is considered so much more desirable than them both.

TGV, I can’t express how EXACTLY you captured my feelings regarding the latest “hot topics” in the watch-world. The hype over the MoonSwatch, the Rolex “prediction” videos, the hands off “reviews of new releases….they all seem unending and yet full of unnecessary, copy cat drivel. You, as always, bring the refreshing juxtaposition of high quality, unsponsored, productions to a watch world filled with people all talking about the same thing at the same time. Thank you, as always.
As for the Breitlings, the blue is truly stunning, but the black seems more of a classic. The both seem really refined and polished compared to previous examples.
As a pilot, I have always always wanted a Navitimer, but I have yet to pull the trigger. Something always stops me from getting one. While I love the history and aeronautical association, there are too many drawbacks there to justify the price. I, for many years thought that I would be picking up the Sinn to fill my Navitimer itch. To be honest, as previously mentioned in other comments, my Flighty and Dan Henry 1963 Blue Steel still satisfy me. I probably will end up with the Sinn, but while I love the design and history of Breitling, I doubt I’ll own one.
TGV, thank you so much for the excellent video. My son and I truly enjoyed every second. Hope you and yours are well! Onward and upward, my friend!

TVG, at the first place: Thank you about this video!
Second: Between Navitimer and Speedmaster (like design and first feeling), I always will stay behind the Navitimer. Like water resistance, you know...
Like water resistance and everyday use I choose the model of Sinn.
Third: For me Navitimer model must stay chronograph. His name, as you know come from "navigation timer". Where goes the "timer" in three hands model? If simple, three hands watch was enough for (precisely) measuring of time, why someone must/can create chronograph complication? Only for complication for itself?
    I don't think so...
Keep this way doing interesting videos and wish to you and your channel all the best!

I recently bought the last generation of the Navitimer B01 43. I love it. These new ones feel a little flat to me. I know the slide ruler is no longer sloped and the tach is now missing. I think what really makes the Navi for me is its complexity, so streamlining it is counterproductive.
How did these wind? All the watches with the B01 I tried were very, very stiff when manual winding. I wonder if they fixed that with this generation.

41+ mm watches can be scary, but when I see the Breitlings at the mall they aren't that huge, and the 38mm rolexes seem tiny, these watches are much different in real life.

The Breitling Navitimer was the first luxury brand I ever fell in love with (long ago).
However when I had the money to buy one I was always disappointed by the movement and finishing. I felt the brand has let itself go a bit.
That has changed the last two years and seeing how they evolved it’s definitely on my wish list again.
For the Omega Speedmaster however… I fell in love with it some five years ago and couldn’t let it go. I did have my reserve towards handwinding and basic water resistant but holding it in my hand and the importance for space history, I’m sorry but I fell for the dream. Can’t help it. It’s a top favourite of mine and I was lucky to get one with caliber 861 from the nineties.
I think the design is absolutely perfect and will last for ages to come.
My heart simple skips a beat every time I see it.
    Great video, as always! 👍

Breitling has been heading into the right direction with their design and customer service has been getting good reviews. There's always a tiny bit of something missing though; like why can't we get an automatic model with a modern movement, under 42mm, non-Bentley affiliated, with the wing logo AND the B counter weight on seconds hand? Those are all the characteristics one would want but they don't have such a model 😅 let me know if you can find one TGV! 🙏

The navitimer was my grail. I didn't know what it was when I first saw one as a kid but the complicated dial just captivated me. Picked up a 2021 41 Blue/White (with the 7750) and it has not dissapointed. I will never sell this watch. I must say while the B01 is impressive it's quite a price jump that I just can't quite swallow. Or maybe i'm just too happy with what i'm lucky enough to already have!

  • @jb6027
    @jb6027 2 года назад

Just my opinion, but extra protrusions on the back side of the watch, like the Omega Seamaster and the Sinn Navitimer as examples, are hideous - but I totally agree with you that the Navitimer needs much more water resistance. That's why I wear mine judiciously.
The same can be said of most Speedmasters also.

I have always loved the Breitling Navitimer and wanted one, but they are a bit too large for my small wrists. I'd love to see something with a similar look to the classic navitimer in 38mm. Same with the Speedmaster professional, which is such a great design, but again too big. It might be time to look into Fortis!

I have small, female-like size wrists, and all my watches are big. I put specs over look. Today I bought Citizen Promaster Sky with internal rotating bezel which diameter is about 38 mm and its legibility is very low. Case diameter is 44 and lug to lug 48 mm, similar to Breitling 41. So Navi can't be smaller and yet has usable slide rule. 41 mm should be tolerable even for the thinnest wrists.

    • @springthyme501

As someone with a 16cm wrist who just tried on the new navitimer and the speedy today. I can say with confidence that they both wear very well. Make sure to give them both a try, though the diametre might be bigger than your used to the lug to lug on both these pieces are very manageable.

IMHO none of these watches can compete with an Omega Speedmaster, with the Breitling being the only one that is even close in QUALITY, but it's main flaw is that it's dial cluttering function is just... unnecessary. Speedmaster is timeless and to this day one of the purest and cleanest chronographs (and watch designs for that matter), but you have to also appreciate the quality of build and finishing in order to fully appreciate the watch. To me the full polished cases of Breitling are just boring and this design is anything BUT timeless.

    • @Odat
      @Odat 2 года назад

I own both a Navitimer 01 as well as the Speedmaster sapphire and here’s my opinion as I’ve owned them for a while.
Legibility wise, the Speedmaster is simpler so it will be easier to read although I have no issues telling the time on the Navitimer either.
Movement wise, the Navitimer 01 wins. It has a longer power reserve and the movement itself is a lot more complicated(column wheel, vertical clutch and so on). The B01 movement is a beast and way more complicated than the 1861 movement.
Build quality is good on both but the Navitimer wins here also. The dial is made of solid silver and has applied indexes as well as snailing and other touches. A lot goes into the Navitimer dial and you can see it!.
I know this is a simple comparison but in my opinion, the Navitimer is the higher quality piece no doubt!. There’s a lot more to it than the Speedmaster. The Speedmaster is a very nice watch but the Navitimer 01 is on a different level.
I enjoy wearing both but if I had to pick one, it would be the Navitimer 01!.

Great video!! The new Navitimer is beautiful but it is a shame about the water resistance. If Fortis can make the B42 200m water resist w/o a screw down crown, then surely Breitling can step up their game. Cheers!

      @TheBrendonian 2 года назад

The Fortis doesn’t have a huge seal all around the edge to allow for an inner rotating bezel! It’s practically impossible to solve this problem with the Navitimer design. Just accept that you need a different watch for swimming, and move on 😀

Great history and excellently presented, thanks. The new Navitimer is one of the worlds greatest watches, full stop. The dials are beyond stunning. The 43mm is perfect for my smallish risk and has the best colour range IMHO. Interestingly, on the green which I bought, the 41mm has the lightest, the 43mm is much darker, and the 46mm is darker still. Linking of colour to size - interesting. BTW its the Sinn 903, not the 904. Its a wonderfully more toolish watch but not in the same league for finishing as the Breitling. In answer to your question, I think that a second crown would take away from the style, and keeping the rotating sapphire is also great for protection and essential for the look. So unfortunately I think we are stuck with 30m for some time. Lastly, as well as being such an amazingly thin chronograph movement, it has 49 jewels !!! hopefully that means it will last longer between maintenance. In terms of price, I agree that generally swiss watches have shot up in the last 10 years, but weirdly, I think its good value compared with its peers. With stainless steel three handers this well finished, like the Chopard Alpine or the Patek Aquanaut, they are all over £10,000, compared to the Breitling 43mm with bracelet at £7,300. And the basic speedmaster with sapphire manual wind is £7,400. However good the speedmaster is, I dont think you can compare the construction and finishing to the new Navitimer. So avoiding the word "good" value for any swiss watches, there is, one could say, positive relative value with this one Luke - LOL

Fantastic video TGV. As you may, or may not, recall I am a huge fan of Breitling.....mostly thanks to your videos. I currently own 7 Breitlings, including a 1st generation Emergency, a Transocean, a Galactic, and my very very favorite watch in my entire collection, a Navitimer Twin Sixty.....a one year only version. And also thanks to you my next Breitling is going to be a Navitimer Cosmonaute. I just have to own one of those. Love that new blue Navitimer, though any of them would make great additions to my collection. You never know, right? Thank you for this video. Onwards....Upwards......

Breitling’s relatively soft secondary prices make this piece an excellent bargain slightly used. For example I’ve just tried on a lovely 43mm reverse panda from 2016 at a healthy 35% discount. It’s a great piece and has the full ‘authentic’ Breitling DNA branding - Gold B logo with wings, Anchor on the second hand, full logo on the reverse side and a cheeky F/C temp conversion on the case back. The new 2022 ones are really nice too, it’s just a little pill to swallow the redirection in branding; maybe I prefer the old school livery and the large discount might push me in that direction. Still, no wrong choice here - cracking watches with a fine historical back story. Every watch lovers collection isn’t complete without some flavour of Navi in the rotation. Go Breitling!

Also, 21:53 I think is a great idea: a quick Urban Gentry Slang video. It doesn't have to be longer than 3-5 minutes (GIAJ installment), so we can "bring back" some of these terms in our every day lexicon (dodgy, ghastly, jammy, rabbiting on, bailiwick). It would be fun to have Hugo Mountbatten host it.-or even have him do one or two terms before the intro music. Just riffing out an idea. Thanks for reading!

11:55 exactly my feelings with Breitling as of late!! I love Breitling as a brand but other than my SO 42 in blue , I have a hard time finding dial color variations I love in the sizes I prefer (40, 41, and 42mm). The new sky blue Navitimer with white subdials like you mentioned is a perfect example. They also have a beautiful black steel blue dial superocean that I would instantly purchase but guess what, only comes in a 46mm. Why Breitling, why? Lol. Why would you only make some of these colors available in the less popular bigger sizes. No one wants to wear a 46 or 44mm (maybe some) and far less want to wear a 48mm. MOST would want to wear a 40 or 42mm. Fits the most popular wrist sizes. There's a reason Rolex doesn't make watches bigger than 41mm other than two models only - the Deep Sea and the Yacht master II regatta of course. They're just not popular sizes. The sooner you get that through your head, the more successful and popular you will become!! If they made the new sky blue navitimer in 41 instead of only 46 and they made that black steel SO in 42, they would be instant purchases for me. Too bad, what a missed opportunity.

Hi Urban Gentry. I haven't have mine yet but I love Navitimer too... I'm a sucker for the B Wing logo and the Anchor counter weight. Recently I came a cross a Breitling Navitimer 01 Blue Edition AB0121, Model S022C20NP.
What do you think of this Navitimer?
What are the differences between Breitling 01 Movement and the Breitling B01 movement? Thanks.

I am not sure but wherever you search on the internet it says that the Navitimer was introduced in 1952 (not in 1954). So it seems that it actually is it's 70th birtday. By the way I am also the proud owner of a 1965 Navitimer 806 (along with a 1964 Rolex Sub ref. 5512 gilt-dial, a 1968 Rolex GMT Master ref. 1675, a 1963 Omega Seamaster De Ville, a 1971 Seiko 6139 Pogue, a Heuer Monaco and a 1965 Rolex Explorer 1016 gilt dial). My best regards TVG. Keep up the good work. Greedings from Athens-Greece

Regarding the WR, I don't think I would take a second crown in exchange for more WR. Let's be honest, Navitimers are stylish watches today. People buy them because they like the look, not because they want to use them as tools. So the 30m water resistance I don't think is a major issue for the market they're targeting.
In the same vein, the limited color choices probably reflect the market they're targeting. They're probably hoping to hit a little bit of the female audience with the smaller sizes, so they put the more colourful options there, and not in the 46mm size which will probably have close to 100% male audience.
Like you, I love the Navitimer for its design. Honestly, I don't care about its water resistance, legibility or general practicality. I love the look of it, and if I were to buy one, that's why I would buy it.

Notes on the new 2022 Navitimer B01-41mm
I returned my new 2022 Breitling Navitimer B0141mm- silver to the dealer because the water resistance of 3bar/30m was far too low. Even washing your hands or taking a shower should be scrupulously avoided. According to the Breitling website, only water spray is allowed.
It can't be that you have to fear for your expensive watch in heavy rain or similar environmental influences. I think this no longer fits into our modern mobile world driven by sporting activities.
Obviously Beitling doesn't get the slide rule bezel tight enough. Most Navitimer lovers probably don't use the full slide rule function anyway, or don't even know how to use it. So visually it's pure cosmetics.
It can't be the crown and pushers, as my new Breitling Superocean heritage B01 Chronograph 44 has a water resistance of 20bar/200m and is, in my opinion, the better choice anyway, as it also has the B01Manufaktur calibre. In addition, the Superocean is also 1,250€ cheaper in list price. But like everything in life, it's a matter of taste.
One more remark about the size. In my opinion, the 41 mmm version is too small, even for a wrist width of 18 cm. The visibility of the displays and numbers suffers because they are too small in the 41 mm version.
are simply too small in the 41 mmm. Now I understand why many Navitimer fans wear the 46mm version, which looks a bit overbearing because of its size. Large numbers and numerals are much easier to read on a 46mm model.
I think the 43mm would be the right size for me personally. I can live with the 44mm of the Superocen. Otherwise, the Breitling Navitimer is a beautiful watch. The newly designed folding clasp is excellent and makes a really solid impression, only a fine adjustment is missing, as it is with the folding clasp of the rubber strap would be desirable. It is simply fun to watch the B01 Caliber do its work through the glass back.

We both are proud owners of the Fortis B42 Cosmonaut Chrono. Yours is the older version mine the official newer version. Now I'm wondering have you also heard that Fortis has discontinued the Cosmonaut B42 Chronograph? Even on Fortis' website you can't purchase the watch! A lot of people like the move from Breitling to vintage with modern movements, but I don't like it because it is too much. The Icon Navitimer has been a three dimension of the glass and this was one of the important DNA of the watch and now it passed away. Especially on the stop minute hand, the loss of the anchor with the B is very painful. Wow what has become of Breitling, a real tragedy 🤨. What hopes did I have of seeing the swing arm logo on the Navitimer again and now there is a logo (AOPA) from the 50s, which didn't work out very well for me either. Historically it is of course correct, but this has been the 3rd logo since 2017, continuity looks different to me.
The combination of modern Watches and history was excellent, created by the Schneider Family. Since CVC and now Partners Group take over the business Breitling has lost her soul. Too much Storytelling. TGV you tell the truth about Breitling, which many no longer dare to say.

Just being a chronograph is not enough for a Navitimer! To me the new watches have nothing in common with what used to be a Navitimer, like the overcrowded dial delivering all the crazy calculations you never need as a normal citizen. They are just colorful newer variants of formerly successful watches. Rolex does it with the Explorer and everybody follows. First Omega with the Aquaterras now Breitling. Who's next?

I will agree with you that they look nice. But their movements are at best rubbish. I bought a new Navitimer 46mm less than a year ago. And the time keeping is sorry to say Crap. As it has gained around 10 Min: a day. from day 1. Now the winder has given up the ghost. The thing is now back in the repair shop for the second time. Maybe one day I will be able to wear it. Don't you just love paying out around $7k and find you can't use something. Thank Buddha that it has a guarantee that works. Would I advise people to buy one??? well take a guess.

Why this obsession with its water resistance, or alleged lack of?
    I just don't understand it.
The Navitimer Chronograph is rated to 3 bars of pressure. That's 30 metres, or ~100 feet of water.
Please ask yourself the following questions:
When was the last time that you went swimming/snorkeling and went to a depth greater than 30 feet?
And, perhaps even more pertinently, when was the last time that you actually *chose* to wear an expensive, "luxury" watch, whilst you were swimming.
    Be honest.
I would probably not wear a watch such as this whilst swimming, but not for any lack of water resistance. It would be for simple, common sense reasons, like not wanting to soak the leather strap in salty or chlorinated water. And just the sheer value of the watch. Unexpected things can happen when we enter an unfamiliar environment.
For people who love swimming/snorkeling/scuba then there are really good watches that cater directly to that need.
I think it is silly and self defeating to claim that we want everything, all of the time. It's just not possible.
The acid test is simple. As someone who once held a pilots license, all I need to know, is that if I'm flying over water, and have to ditch for whatever reason, then my watch will be the least of my problems.

Why always this need to "need" to choose between the Navi and the Speedy? They are two very different watches, and I love them both. The Speedy wins in understated elegance I think, hence I have gone in that direction (fitted with a black alligator strap). But both are very functional and good looking watches, in their own way. One doesnt rule out the other. My daily watches are always Guinand chronos these days..... more functional than both Navi and Speedy, no sales BS - and outstanding customer support.

I believe the very first Navitimer dates back to 1952, a very limited edition commissioned by AOPA. Its slide rule was a development on the slide rule found in the original Chronomat, matching the cardboard computer used by pilots. It was later expanded to a product line. I believe that is when it transitioned from the Valjoux 72 to the Venus 178. But I may be wrong, matey.

The Navitimer is the only modern Breitling I like but if push come to shove what I would spend on is a black dial from the 1960's.
