Jerry Jeff will always be commemorated as one Country Rock's best-ever. This particular song is one of my personal favourites - out of what is a huge & superb JJW repetoire.

Happy Willie wrote it, but even happier that Jerry Jeff reinvented it this way.

Love this old stuff. Willie's version is awesome but love how JJW rocked this out in his own style. Today's pop country can't hold a candle to the outlaws associated with this era. Singers back then had so much personality and style. I hope pop country dies and this good stuff finds its may back to music row.

This was usually one of the songs he played toward the end of a set. By that time, the crowd was pretty well lubed up and dancing (on table tops if the place had them). Good times.

I agree, aeroshine. I feel JJW is one of the BEST Country singers that ever was, and is. His talent soars over many other of the 'big names' ... and, like you said, the TRAGEDY of it all ... is that more than not, people haven't even heard of him. It makes me sick, when I ask long time country fans, and they just don't know.
Then, you say "Mr. Bojangles", and there's not a sould who doesn't know it ... But, many millions of people lost out.
I'm just glad he is happy. He did it his way.

John Inmon , as almost always, was playing his slashing black Tele. Haven't seen all videos of him, but when he gets that fabulous sound as in this video, doubt he would have had a Gibson axe.

About half off the wall but y'know I learned it all from a bow-legged lady.
You know, you have to be from a particular time and place to really appreciate that. Am I wrong?

A voice in a million, what a brilliant musician and singer. And who knows, maybe success like that of Waylon, Kris or Willie would have changed him for the worse. JJW has always done it as he wanted it, not how others wanted it. I guess Bojangles gave him the financial security to walk his own line and raise a big middle finger to the suits. Art wins over commerce for once!

One could always tell the difference between JJW, Merle and Randy Travis. Today, these yahoo's all sound and look alike. Kinda put out there like the 'make believe bands' of the 60's and 70's.
