Reading these comments make me feel good. I'm glad the tune means something to you. This rendition by Jerry Jeff, of Contrary To Ordinary, is my favorite. I never thought the Austin Symphony would be playing my song. It was written in Houston/July-1976. billy jim baker, gatlinburgTn
Words don't have the capacity to convey how much these great lyrics mean to us sir! You left your mark for sure. You have my admiration and appreciation for this great work!
Love this song and one of my most favorites! Just read about you …clown hall of fame and Jerry Jeff ! Never seen this album but read Jerry is dressed in full clown on the back cover !! Now I’ve got to see this
In my humble opinion, Jerry Jeff should be a household name. Up here in Canada there are some of us die hard fans, just not as many as I would like. You know, just to talk about the gorgeous music with someone..
Met Jerry Jeff at the Philadelphia folk festival many years ago. I was playing guitar and he was walking by, and we said Hey, Jerry Jeff and he gave us a big hello and a smile then tipped his hat and did a little dance to the song I was playing. We've got it all on film he hung out couple of minutes with us. I haven't seen the film for years my ex has it but I'll get a copy eventually. It was before he had the hit song so I'm guessing it was before 1970. It was a great moment. Mr. Bojangles himself danced for me. Thanks Jerry.
when he sings, he lives the song and beams it right into your brain so you know what he is talking about. not many can do that. maybe 10 in the whole world. no bullshit here. keep it up, jerry.
i was front row center for this performance @ austin city limits thanx to jjw wife susan.....the whole show was unforgettable!!! symphony, best lady singin' harmony i ever heard!!!
I guess you didn't get an answer to your question. I want to know who Gonzo Dilla is? Whoever he is he was really lucky and I hope to hear back from him
when you listen to him and see him its like he is only singing to you. great entertainer. saw him at the exit in nashville years ago and marvelled. a real pro and delight. made me feel good and secure about a lot of things.
Ah, Jerry Jeff...so many folks have "never heard of him". Poor ppl missed out on one of the greatest music artists ever, imo. These lyrics are just...perfect. Had the pleasure of seeing him many times back in the day...even at small bars in my area. Best moment was standing next to his tall texas self at a bar just chatting with him...ok, maybe tmi but I was way younger and very thin...he gave me a hug and said (in that Texan drawl) "You're a wiry little thing, ain;t ya?" LOL and...swoon. Good man, great artist.
"And stories do come true, if you just live life in episodes" ...It suddenly dawned on me what these words mean. If I look at one day last summer as one episode...the day when she phoned and told me what she felt about me...my story did come true. Today doesn't matter if I look at it that way :-)
I caught this show when it came out on Austin City Limits late 80s captured it on vhs one of my all time favorites followed by Lowden Wainwright 3 what a show
There are probably 5 great versions of this song: 1 by Billy Jim Baker who wrote it and the other 4 are JJW! Billy Jim, I hope you still get those checks for this great song!
I guess I always will.. Contrary to ordinary, evan as a child, full moon drove me wild.. life life in episodes.. One eye still on the road.. Been there and done all that!!
Billy's a good one! -- It sounds like you know "Elwood" personally. -- If so, let me know. -- He & Melissa are dear friends... In fact we spent a good part of last year together & he would play new songs for me the day he wrote them... He even wrote a few on my front porch. -- Great Talent!!!

Miss ya, Scamp!
Best song he ever recorded imo.
RIP Mr. Walker. A true Texas legend.
Actually, he was a New Yorker.
The Jerry Jeff song I always most identified with. RIP.
Me too! Had some lyrics wrong until he died. RIP
Jerry Jeff would adjust the lyrics on stage just as all greats do
God bless the dude:)

Yeah! Keep dancing Jerry, we love you...
Meant him in 1998 in Belize, he played in my hotel. Was still dancing and super cool.
His moods reflected in his music. I set my playlists by his moods. The same tunes were so different with his moods. Human ❤
Been listening to Jerry Jeff since mid 70s, as great as ever.
One of the last songs played at my wife's funeral,Jerry Jeff is one of the best
Loved this from the first time I heard it, can’t remember how long ago

I guess you didn't get an answer to your question. I want to know who Gonzo Dilla is? Whoever he is he was really lucky and I hope to hear back from him
Been chasing this one live for many years. He played this tonight at Gruene Hall. God bless you JJW. Thanks for the great memories.

Do you have any more videos from this ACL show? been trying to find them for years
ruclips.net/video/SZ89xtmyqT4/видео.html
@@luckysmusic3922 JJW was only 1/2 the show even though he had the mini orchestra? Pathetic
Does anyone understand how lonely a life it would actually be to live like Jerry was proposing. Most would commit suicide.
robert nickel Not.
it takes a lot of beer and whiskey to counter that.
Not sure JJ was proposing anything , just living the only way he knew.
