    Great video mate. Love the content on your channel. Before a few software updates I experienced while using Braw some of my data would go corrupt even while transferring and sometimes last frames went missing, the unnatural highlight roll-off and harsh auto-lin semi log curve, the color spectrum of the format shifting to the extreme tints during encoding was such a pain in the arse. But after a few updates the black magic team has fixed all most all of these problems and now the Ursa paired with the Braw runs like an Aston Martin fuelled by the concorde.😉

    • @StillMovingMedia
      @StillMovingMedia  3 года назад

      Depends on the project, for storyboarded commercials we’ll go to a lower compression maybe even 3:1. On more open ended projects like this one were we are shooting all day run and fun 12:1 or if we’re shouting interviews we’ve moved from prores to braw 12:1.

    Great video Dale. What settings do you usually have your Colour Management page set to in Resolve? Specifically the Colour Science and Timeline Colour Space.

    • @StillMovingMedia
      @StillMovingMedia  4 года назад +3

      Thanks Will, Technical question! For the most part we are working to deliver content for web/basically rec709 environments. So this usually means sticking with DavinciYRGB and then a flavour of rec 709. But if the deliver was for dcp or something more involved this would change.

      @@StillMovingMedia Thanks for replying Dale. Do you ever experience the gamma shift issue when exporting H264 from Resolve? That's a problem I've been coming across. If so, have you come across any solutions?

    • @StillMovingMedia
      @StillMovingMedia  4 года назад +3

      Shot by Will that is a question with a rather long a complicated answer! Which I may not easily be able to convey here, there are some fairly simple solutions but a lot of things depend on your setup and how you are working. One quickish fix would be unchecking the ‘use Mac display colour profiles for viewers’ box in hardware config. But that is also opening a bit of a can of worms in itself!

      This wasn’t colour managed. At this point it would have been using the BM film and then using Filmconvert setting for film to convert it. Though now I’m usually in colour managed Davinci HDR for processing SDR output.

      @StillMovingMedia  4 года назад +1

      Rashpal Sagoo hi Rashpal, thanks! For this and most current projects I work in a 1920x1080 timeline, I don’t think I’ve ever had a client ask for a 4K deliverable. Occasionally people ask if they can grab a Still, while potentially the resolution is there now the challenge is always that we are aiming for different things compared to the stills guys, (as I’m sure you appreciate). But to some up for anyone reading and wondering shutter speed and movement are the usual limiting factors. Even if we’re at 50fps our shutter is 1/100 the stills guys would be way above that, and on top of this our camera is often moving so this compounds the motion blur on any single frame, fine for moving image but a problem for a Still. Another consideration is the framing stills will be looking for some portrait as well as landscape and often be shooting with graphics/ad copy in mind.

    I think she would look better centre frame, this way there would be 'Leading-Lines' to her, the object thats wearing the clothes. My eye wanders and picks up the contrast between, the object, the background and the highlights of the water; it's hard to focus solely on, what I'm assuming is the product... the clothes.

    • @StillMovingMedia

      Potentially, though I’m not concerned here about focus on product. For this it was more about the location and creating a vibe, also we have a frighteningly short time on these shots. Basically arrive walk down one wide take, closeups done + sun going in and out 😧

    What graphics cards and CPUs are suitable for editing Raw 6k files?

    • @StillMovingMedia
      @StillMovingMedia  2 года назад

      We’ve managed to use a variety of intel MacBook Pro’s though for 6k braw it does tend to get bogged down much more than the URSA 4.6k braw files. For heavy lifting we have been using the egpu pros which cut through it like butter with the vega 56 graphics cards but those are discontinued now. That all said people are reporting good results with the new M1 macs though we have yet to get onboard with those.
