I feel almost like the effect on the daemonette is appropriate for the model, either as a representation of how they burst from the warp, or what they get up to in their spare time lol. I can't imagine much more intimidating than seeing a horde of them surging towards me covered in suspiciously viscous fluids
My take aways: it took nearly 30 layers before details started getting lost, so paint bravely and thin paints you're not going to ruin anything. And I prefer old nuln oil. (Well really I prefer Badab black but that ship long sailed)
One thing i did not expect was to find a new favorite blue metallic in this video. 3 layers of Talassar Blue over gold. That one's going in the back pocket. Fun vid as always!
As a Talassar blue enthusiast (Bluecrons for the win) I also discovered a few original uses for it... Talassar blue over Runelord brass gives a tarnished dirty brass look. Try it out on all those bells on your Nurgle guys. Edit: whoops I checked my notes. It was Frostheart, not Talassar Blue. Talassar blue still gives a strange alien blue green metal. Want to quickly paint a bunch of Nephrek Necrons (golden body, green glow). Paint it gold all over, and add the Talassar blue where the glow is needed. Want a colored metallic that just seems to glow almost like a fluorescent paint. Get yourself the shiniest chrome paint you can (I used Tin Star by Turbodork. Beware: you'll be cleaning out micca particles out of that brush for days, but a good smooth coat will be almost mirror like) and add Talassar blue. Seriously stunning Do you have trouble wet blending? Necron hyperphase blades got you pulling out your hair? a coat of thinned down contrast (3 medium per paint) will smooth the transitions. Actually... Talassar blue might not be the best for this, better use a weaker contrast like Aethermatic Blue (what I use)
the bloodletter is the most table-top ready, looks like he's either just warp'd in or he's had some really good rolls and is ready to call it a day. The Bukakkette is quite amusing. Most surprising is how that ghosty lad turned into a dinosaur!
I liked how the Bloodletter turned out; he looks like he was freshly birthed in the blood vats where Khorne sources both his warriors and his party mixers
My dad liked to contemplate the notion of somebody painting and painting and painting a room until there was only a little cube of empty space in the middle.
If you apply a ton of crackling paint like Agrellan Earth while it’s all still wet then you will get the massive cracks you were looking for, and much faster I might add. Try flipping a normal black GW base upside down and fill it till it overflows with paint and that should work. Thanks for another awesome video 🎉
Blood for the blood god heavily stacked still looks great, a few of these actually look like very time consuming ways to make excellent base effects - blood for the blood god for a chaos pool of blood, and ardcoat looks like the mini is trapped in ice to a degree.
As silly as this seems at first blush, some of these could make for some legitimately interesting effects. That Typhus Corrosion ends up looking like some super old stone statue that has weathered for hundreds of years. I bet it could be used to great effect in a scene like this.
well but i think you could get the effect a lot cheaper if you used something else (maybe cheap acrylics, or just acrylic medium) for the bulk and just use the citadel paint for the last few layers

Which It makes me feel better about my first mini that I'm 13 hours into and you can still see the detail like before I painted it. Which you can make the old Nioln oil as one of my other mini painting youtubes breilfly mentioned which I think it was eons of battles not sure though.

You should see how well different paint stripping materials handle the 100 layer challenge. I'm pretty sure we've all bought an old model at some point that just refused to go back to the bare metal.

Honestly I'm just surprised that thinned paint even stacks like that. I assumed this was thick right out the bottle Like I regularly put on like 30 layers of paint when working on skintones and you can't tell that by looking at the model.
These minis are not "overpainted"! They're a just painted "tough" to take massiv beating on a tournament. They will start as big bloobs, but over time color will peal off and a beautiful swan will...nope, they're fuuked up... AND...The look a bit like Haribo Yummy Marines...
There is one benefit to this method, all the models are so shiny you don’t even need to shade or blend for lighter colors the ceiling lights do it for you! And you don’t need to edge highlight because there are no edges!

I've got a squad of tactical marines that I got second hand from a good friend of mine that look actually quite similar to this. He did them when he was quite young and they are a super aggressive yellow. I only just realized recently that they actually have Dark Angels shoulder pads because, despite being moulded on, the emblem is pretty badly obscured

I've used talassar blue over retributor gold for the carapaces of some of my 'nids, to give the impression of iridescent beetles.

Hey guy, for something like old Nuln Oil (or Old Citadel shades) get the Duncan Rhodes washes, they are good. Same for metallics
He has a video where he explains how to produce liters of that stuff urself…
