In Canada Kobo can be used to borrow library books and Kindle can’t! I also have learned that Kindles have ads in the US while here they don’t. Kobo originated in our Canadian bookstore chain, Indigo (similar to Barnes and Noble). Just ordered my Libra 2. 🙂
Watching this series with interest because I bought a Paperwhite a few years ago because I wanted a backlit screen for reading and the audiobook capacity, but I hate the lack of buttons on it! It’s my third Kindle and I think it is easily the worst e-reading experience I’ve had. It’s difficult to hold and turn pages and that means I never feel fully immersed in the story and it is just uncomfortable! Oh and I hate not being able to read library books on the kindle!
Those would all be cons for me. I am enjoying my experiences with both so far. The send to kindle feature is huge. Sounds like you may be a Kobo person. 😊
Get a Kobo or a Nook, if buttons are a requirement for you. I love my Nook GlowLight 3, 4, and Plus. Those page-turning buttons on both sides are worth it!
@@bitteralmonds666 I have been considering a Kobo for the ability to read library books but I also have around 400 kindle books so not sure switching e-readers is a good move for me at this point!
@@spreadbookjoy You could try to wait for the Amazon Cyber Monday sale to trade in and upgrade your Kindle Paperwhite 4 to a Kindle Oasis 3, which has the side buttons (similar to a Libra H2O and 2). The downside is that you're still within the Amazon Kindle ecosystem. I love my 2011 Kindle 4, as well as my Oasis 1 and 3 because of those page-turning buttons. I have about 800 Kindle books, 250 audiobooks, and around 600 comic books/graphic novels, so I'm also pretty deep in their ecosystem hahah 👍🏽😎👍🏽
Currently a physical book reader, but I'm trying to maximize and better my reading experience for the new year. I think an eReader will help me. Just trying to decide what eReader I want. Hence why I'm here!!
Team Kobo here. :) I have the Kobo Libra Colour and the Kindle Paperwhite. I switched to Kobo because I think Kobo gives you more bang for the buck. Not only does it not have ads that you have to pay to get rid of (or else is included in the price of your unit) but it also gives you easier access to library books, and the KLC gives you pen capability *and* color in the same device, whereas Amazon makes you pick between the Scribe and the Colorsoft, both of which are more expensive than the KLC. I also like the fact that Kobo is based on epub, meaning you're not beholden to one company to get ebooks.
@@M-J that is a really nice feature, but I just use my phone and the Overdrive app. But I'm allowed to listen to audiobooks while I work, so that's how most of my reading gets done.
Great start to this series! Really looking forward to seeing more. I have a Kobo mini which I got because it was small and cheap and cute but aside from that I’m very kindle focussed.
I got a kindle basic this year because I loved my old kindle and also that is where the books I want are. I should get a Kobo for library books as Libby/Overdrive doesn’t support kindle in Canada. I also like that the Kobo has buttons.
I am an ebook reader, but I normally just use the kindle app on my tablet. I had a great tablet that I left in the USA last time I was there. Hopefully, someone at Two Rivers Church is enjoying it and it isn't just sitting in a lost and found box in some dusty corner. My new tablet, Everpad, was about all my budget could handle. It works OK except from day one the battery life was horrible.
i love physical books but i do get overwhelmed with storing them lol. I have had a few e-reader's throughout the years, usually from barnes and noble but they've been lackluster. i love barnes and noble and i would much rather have a e'-reader from them, instead of amazon but they're just not great. I'm ready to get burned again with the brand new pink pearl glowlight tho lol
I have both a Kobo and a Kindle. My Kobo is shaped exactly like my Kindle Paperwhite, but I tend to use it more because of the library book/ Libby feature here in Canada. I ended up paying an ADHD tax to Kobo though, because I gave them my credit card number for Kobo unlimited (I think that is what it is called), and then didn't really use it OR cancel it for like 8 months. I swear I would be rich beyond belief if I wasn't so forgetful lol
I am kindle person but recent rejection of mobi and some epub formats (though they say epub works) on kindle introduced by amazon is making me so irritated. Thanks for telling about kobo... I really like knowing about different ereaders especially if they are cheaper.

That’s amazing! Yes, I actually paid extra to not have ads. Ugh. 🙄 I sure do enjoy my library books on the Kobo. Enjoy your new Libra! 👏🏻👏🏻
Team Kobo! Even though I don't have one, I have the app...
The KOBO is just so goooood! Kindle is growing on me, but Kobo has my heart. 😊

Fantastic! 👏🏼👏🏼
I completely forgot that the Kobo exists, even though when it came out I had to put out displays for them in a couple walmarts.
Kobo really is the best kept secret for accessing library books. 😊

I don’t disagree with you. There are a few videos in this series. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Gonna watch the rest 😊
So interesting! Looking forward to more.
Thanks Jayne! I hope this series helps. 😊

Great comparison. We have some kindles around here that are like 10 years old. I should try firing one up 😬

Thanks Duncan. Buttons and library books are the main reasons I love the Kobo! It’s so cost effective - the investment made pays itself back. 😊
