    The sounds are especially magical because of the way they echo across the water. At summer camp growing I woke up to the sunrise and the loons calling to each other on the lake, our cabins a mere 10 feet or so from the edge of the water. Those are some of the best memories of my life. Thank you for this video!

      Especially in the autumn, when they howl rather than sing. It is like from another world. My country's old mythology associates them with spirits and afterlife.

    Stunning videography! Their calls are so hauntingly beautiful to hear and see. I can’t handle that baby stretching his little leg on momma’s back. Thank you for posting!

    Growing up in Maine-it's strange to think this isn't normal for most people or that people haven't even experienced a loon call in person before period!

    When we go to our family cabin up Northern Wisconsin, 2 miles from the border of Upper Peninsula of MI, I lay in bed at night & earlier morning listening our loon couple on the lake. From the time I was a lil kid in the 1970s to present, our loons will swim down to our end of the lake ( always around 3pm) and watch us swim. They usually get 20ft from us.
    Our loons had a couple of chicks 🐤every yr. Unfortunately 1 of 2 things could make them their next meal. If the Bald Eagle who also had a nest in the trees on our lake didn’t grab the eggs or the chicks once their born then the muskies got them off the backs of their parents. If a predator didn’t get them then we were privy to seeing them riding on their parents backs when old.
    My kids were born in 2000 & 2002 and to this day there is still a loon couple that comes & watches my kids swim. When my kids start having children I hope we still have loons on Mermaid 🧜‍♀️ Lake so they can watch my grandchildren swim as I watch them & the loons.
    Of all the birds I have ever heard, loons are the most beautiful of the all.

    Is that a duck?

    • @tessmoore3762
      @tessmoore3762 6 месяцев назад

      No, its a loon. Similar, but different. They can dive down deep under the water and stay down for several minutes. They can carry their young on their back. They are smaller than most ducks.
