The fact that Robert Sapolsky cannot understand what Dennet is pointing out here is depressing.

Please watch and share with others my five brief videos in which I present examples of scientific facts contained in the Bible, facts that the writers thousands of years ago could not have been aware of without divine knowledge given to them by Jesus Christ / The God of the Bible. And today's scientists agree with those facts!

Determinism posits that consciousness is a product of subatomic particles or matter. However, this notion can be challenged by the fact that your individual consciousness did not originate from the chemicals that constituted your mother’s egg and your father’s sperm. According to scientific understanding, the egg and sperm that formed the zygote, which eventually became you, are merely chemicals devoid of consciousness. So, where did your consciousness come from? The Abrahamic God did not create your consciousness because creation has concluded (Genesis 2:2, Quran 7:54). This is where true spirituality becomes relevant. Universal spirituality transcends the limitations of science, and by exploring phenomena such as levitation, we may begin to uncover the true nature of consciousness. By consciousness, I am not referring solely to human consciousness or brain-bound consciousness. There is more to consciousness than that. We must think of the quantum field as a field of consciousness.

Your "dilemma" is only a dilemma if you assume that consciousness is "stuff" that gets conserved, rather than a process. If consciousness is a process, then there's really no problem or dilemma with the materialist position, that a zygote is not conscious but the fetus _becomes_ conscious. It's like asking "where did the fire come from?" when somebody makes a fire. Fire is not stuff, it's a process that is really just a combination of runoff oxidization, blackbody radiation, and the statistical mechanics of heat rising. It can come from nowhere, without being supernatural, because it is not a material thing, and there is no "conservation of fire" rule.

@@Schrodinger_ Consciousness in a fetus doesn't simply arise from nothing. That’s the key point. Consciousness, as the very tool we use to comprehend the vast universe, cannot be equated with something as basic as the origin of fire. I’m not suggesting that the origin of consciousness is supernatural-it’s a natural phenomenon. However, it doesn’t stem from matter; instead, matter emerges from the field of consciousness. This field can be understood as the quantum field. in essence, forms the foundation from which all material reality arises, bridging the gap between the seen and unseen dimensions of existence.

@supernaturalabilitiessiddh8027 If consciousness doesn't stem from matter, we should be able to find consciousness without matter.
      Spoiler: we haven't.

@@Lordidude Consciousness is non-physical, so it eludes detection by scientific instruments, yet its effects are unmistakable. Supernatural abilities like telekinesis and levitation offer a window into this mysterious realm. By investigating these phenomena, we can gain deeper insights into the true nature of consciousness and its connection to reality.
