  • This is our favorite creek for a GOOD reason. We've had plenty of chances to walk it this spring season thanks to a lot of heavy rains that keep moving through our area. I ended up finding a beautiful piece of local history that hits close to home for me, and I couldn't be happier to have found it. Hope y'all enjoy!

Adding some relevance to the value of item found, would be interesting! Some of the marbles have value, and a few of the bottles found are quite valuable to collectors!! "Loving" every mud-smear junk object is not!

3:50 the pattern on porcelain is called "cibulák" in Czech, onion in English :) It has been produced in Bohemia since 1885 in Dubí, but it was originally used in Meissen (Germany) in 1738 - 1739 based on a model from China.

Wow! The last bottle is amazing. Natalie is the marble queen. I read that marbles were used as a weapon as sling shots. So that is probably why there are so many. I do find the odd marble here in the UK in my garden when planting my veggies. xx

I drank a lot of Nehi grape at summer camp 48 years ago. We all did until the machine ran out of pop mid-week, it was a 2 week camp, very sad when the soda machine was empty! The purple flowers with the bee is Hairy Vetch, it is a southern wildflower. It is so pretty.

I found an amber glass apothecary bottle yesterday on a walk by my creek. It was buried in the path and I dug it out with a stick. It’s embossed with a 1/2 cup mark. I believe it was blown in a mold. I wish I could put a picture in this comment.

So, prior to about 1940, most medium sized towns had their own brick factory. My house was originally built in the 1930's, and I have dug up bricks in the yard with "Morgantown Brick Works" stamped on them. After a little research, the Morgantown Brick Works closed in the late 1930's because of the Great Depression pretty much stopping new construction, which understandably reduced the demand for bricks to such an extent that an awful lot of brick factories went bankrupt and shut down. The old Brick Works with it's massive brick kiln chimneys still stands by the Monongahela river which runs through our town, and is now a historic site full of restaurants and small shops. The huge brick chimneys are inhabited by thousands of swallows, who nest on the interior walls of the chimneys, fly in and out during the mornings and sunsets en masse, and look like smoke clouds they are so numerous.

Yall find some amazing things and it would be amazing to make some into pendants, rings, bracelets etc. You can hunt thrift stores etc for old sterling silver and use that to melt for findings. Even Natalies marbles would make an amazing necklace or bracelet or maybe even a ring. Just watch some of the RUclipsrs that make jewelry. Also some of the fossils and chert you find would be great. Unfortunately some creeks were used as dumping sites back in the late 1800's - early 1900's and then people kind of just kept using them as a place to dump. There are no good laws or enforcement in place to prevent this from happening, and I think it's because our politicians simply don't care. It's incredibly sad and unfortunate, and so that's why I try to educate people here on my channel to pick up trash while they're out.

Why is there so much garbage in this creek? Is it close to a road? Why do we continue to ruin beautiful natural edens? When we were kids, in the 50s & 60s, we always had marbles & played them in the schoolyard. The goal was to win boulders, the largest marbles. Our favourite were puree boulders which were very rare and did not have a cat's eye. Happy marbling!

back in the mid 60s when I was little everyone burned their own trash in a backyard or alley metal barrel..and took things to community dumping..before that people used hillsides and waterways as dumps on their own large property..
and manufacturing did the same.. waste management has never been our shining moment here in US.
..and agreed, marbles are a favorite..
      I have a few🙋🏽‍♀️

I think I have a blue puree.. I found a limestone sphere about that size also, here in Indiana. in a creekbed..not sure how it was made..no knapping marks..
It's a perfect round marble of limestone..
      a favorite ⛏️

If I recall, due to it's location, this creek becomes the final resting place of many things carried away in floods.
