Did I leave any safe places out? Let me know in the comments. If you want to see retirement in Iloilo next, let's get this video to 1,000 likes. Appreciate you Savvy Expats!
Knowing that we're on way over 100th spot for being an unsafe country is quite alarming and embarassing. This explains our very small share of expats and foreign tourists compared to Asian neighbors. Kidnapping in the past had to do with this and at the moment, the growing number of scammers which we don't see as being taken seriously by the government It's always safety first before a country's beauty.
Having grown up in the third world ghetto of East St Louis Illinois which in one video was ranked as the sixth most dangerous city in the world the Philippines seems rather tame to me.
I see what you mean. Where you grew up, Detroit, Compton, South Side of Chicago, are all places that would make the Philippines look like a elementary playground

I’m British. I have traveled all over the World and I’ve lived in London, Jamaica, Miami, Philadelphia, India, Thailand, Belize and Costa Rica. I now live in Makati in Manila, here in the Philippines, and I feel perfectly safe living here.
We have been living here in Davao City for 15 years and I am happier than ever. There's no place in the Philippines where I feel safer and protected. Thanks to Davao City Mayor's good governance. I really can say this is the best place for everyone to see and experience.

Lived in Oakland, bars on the windows. Metal doors and gun shot of anger every night. I felt safer while deployed to Afghanistan than I did at home in Oakland.
Davao City has a low crime rate because criminals are being murdered by the Davao Death Squad. That's not how you preserve peace and order. Lol. Crime can't be solved by another crime.
It's misleading information. A major reason why the PH ranked last are the risks of natural hazards. Yet Batanes, one of the most hurricane prone places in the country, made it to the list. Also Davao is not exactly safe if you work for the free press. And how on earth could someone call extrajucidial killings "law enforcement" while clearly no laws are enforced at all with such an approach.
Thanks Evan, that’s good information to know. Just like most places it’s always good to be vigilant and be aware of your surroundings at all times. No place is really 100% safe…there may be a few, always try to practice safety first. 🇵🇭👍🏾
Ideas for videos. Uptown nightlife, because it's really fun as the pandemic fades. Also, tour the Japanese/filipino condo in Uptown. I think it's a federal land project.
The number one reason for Batanes and Davao to be so safe is respect of others. In Batanes that is a natural virtue. In Davao it is a forced virtue. But in both places it is learned also. If there is a strong active police force and citizenry, people just know they must respect others. It is unfortunate that in some of the big cities that does not exist and in some cases there is corruption in the police. In the US, respect for others disappeared a long time ago. I was in the US in 2016 and during daylight (midday) I said hello to a lady (like I do here) and she took off running out of fear I was going to hurt her because I said hello. I had neighbours from Haiti and they were friendly even though we had some difficulty with communication - they spoke French and my college French just wasn't very good. Thank you for the video. I enjoy the videos you are doing.

I walked and taxied in Manila and found it quite safe, for a city. This is a real city. I would much rather walk the streets of Manila than LA or New York. I also saw a security guard every 20 feet, sometimes less and they kept a close eye out for me. Some would walk over and walk with me to the mall which was where I was headed. You not know they are there you not know they walk you, but I did. They all had guns many had a shot gun too. My girl would kid me, saying, He is watching her, or here to protect us from the police. I believe the second one

I don't wish to commit the most horrendous crime here, But I will ask a political question. I'm 65 years old and looking to retire in the phil. Having spent a few years there in the military (many years ago) and having a female friend there that I have known for 20 years, My question is this why 60 years later and 30 years after the U.S. left, why is this still "a developing country"" . Its a rhetorical question of course but at some point we should stop using that term as a reason for the crime and poverty there.
However, in Davao - I think you mean the reported 'crime rate' - clearly the 'death squad' according to Du30's own words is guilty of a large number of murders - but these crimes were not reported - you even noted Du30 boasted of turning off the life support system of an 'alleged' crime lord. There is clearly no 'rule of law' in Davao, just the rule of a dictator that does not give 'alleged' drug users etc their presumption of innocence until proven by a court of law otherwise.
Exactly. It totally puzzles me how any sane and intelligent person can even use the term "law enforcement" when referring to extrajucidial killings. After all the victims of these killings are not only drug offenders but also journalists for example. And even innocent children have been shot by government-approved killers.
Maybe you are too intelligent to understand what works in the Philippines. You can't bring your own values and thinking in to the Philippines and implement it Then nothing will make sense to you.
I suggest you learn Spanish-style pronunciation, especially for obviously Spanish names. Thus Valenzuela is pronounced as [vah-len-ZWEH-la], with the accent on the second-to-the-last syllable. The "UE" letter-pair can be pronounced as either [WEH] or as [EH], depending on the letter that precedes it. Please ask a native-born Filipino rather than forging ahead by yourself in guessing how local names are pronounced as it is off-putting to us locals.
