    Honeslty she is worse than interviewing a politician. Zero answers...everything is "under review"....how did you and the CEO get the job if you didnt have a clear vision for the game.....AFL needs to get external people in, these answers make it look like the ship is rudderless.

    Laura has embarrassed herself enough earlier in the season saying that it was ok to hit an opponent in the head close to the contest but,not further downfield!!

    Imagine Maynard tackling him again and causing further injury, even worse. Who would be blamed? Laura Kane being ok with this is simply inadequate. Not good enough. Any rib damage needs immediate scans and the equipment needs to be bought and supplied. Ridiculous a head knock is a no-no but unknown internal is a risk they are willing to take. Laura Kane is too vague here.

    • @darhman5299

      Equipment bought and supplied? mate they're are hospitals that lack these pieces of equipment. How about some personal responsibility, no need to be a "hero" over a game of football, he should have taken himself off.

    • @GiggleGroup
      @GiggleGroup 3 месяца назад +4

      @@darhman5299 Yeah thats right, all players have to be protected from themselves, just like head knocks or everyone will be playing. The equipment needed for sideline scans are about 2-3 mil regardless of govt not supplying them for hospitals - separate issue, the AFL can afford this.

      Funny that you should bring up someone who should've been banned for 12 weeks prior to the grand final last year. He might only have just started back on the field again after finishing off the other guy's career. He jumped up & into the upper body of Brayshaw, basically slamming his torso & head into the ground. Not a deliberate act? By who's measurement? It was disgusting. We need a send-off rule for these acts.
      When Plugger, playing for Saints elbowed the Swans player, Peter Cavan out of the game with a level 2 facial crash injury, he kicked ten goals afterwards which gave the Saints the win bcos of someone who shouldn't have been playing after he did that.

    If Petracca could not raise his arms over his head, he should never have been allowed back on the field. Melbourne were negligent and the AFL are trying to spin this failure as acceptable. It was not. At all.

  • @RexAlfieLee
    @RexAlfieLee 3 месяца назад +19

    She's talking rubbish. She's probably not a doctor but even the commentators kept referring to how much pain Petracca was in. That the doctors didn't intervene shows their lack of responsibility. I was a player & I was a nurse over many years. I've had many injuries on the field including a broken arm, broken ribs, broken nose several times, plus fingers. I knew immediately when the fingers, ribs, nose & arm were broken. Petracca's constant guarding & doubling-up should have been enough for the doctors to intercede. You're talking about a young man's life & the doctor's inaction in this situation & also the Jeremy Cameron one was unacceptable. & irresponsible. I feared Chris had a pierced lung the way he was moving & I'm not that close as a spectator. I don't barrack for either team.

    Sincerely dont understand publicly what Laura Kane’s added to the AFL administration since coming on board.
    Dont discount her credentials/skills and anything she does internally, but the processes with umpiring, the management and contradictions with HIA, and just general communication and image publicly have been awful.
    She was at north prior, so surely there’s a Brad Scott nepotism hire sprinkled in there.

    I was a registered Dr for 9 years before moving industry but I can say I find it really really suspicious that we keep hearing from the AFL, pundits etc but never DOCTORS and I can tell you why. No good doctor would say "I don't have the skills to diagnose a potential internal injury without imaging" because it's not true. Yes we rely on the patient to tell us their symptoms but the mechanism of injury, the obvious injury to successive ribs would immediately make any good doctor suspicious of internal injury. In a non sport setting you would be sent for scans immediately, in a sport setting I understand the hesitation to jump to that immediately however in my opinion there is no excuse for not having him sit in the rooms with a doctor to reassess him at key intervals, 10 minutes, 20 minutes and so on because from what she is saying it sounds like once the independent physician reviewed him he immediately sent him to the ER say 35 minutes post injury. If he had been re tested 5 minutes into the second quarter by the independent Dr I guarantee you he would have been sent to hospital then and there. He was pale, shaking, going into shock on the field and for anyone who has suffered from shock you can imagine how scary that would be to be on the field and feeling that way. All the dr had to say for Melbourne was "Your mechanism of injury is very nasty, I'm not confident you don't have internal injuries, let's re test in 10 minutes and send you to ED if we see no improvement" that's it. The whole issue was avoided, the player gets better pain relief earlier which he clearly needed, gets his scans earlier and the surgeons have more time to stop bleeding. The AFL should invest in imaging equipment at the grounds so doctors can look after players properly and prevent them from being injured further or god forbid passing away.

    The first video where Laura Kane is basically justifying a ridiculous situation. Everyone knows if he had been hit one more time he's dead, would we still be saying it was all good then? The whole trust us we did everything right is a deflector for the issue especially when you keep invoking dr patient confidentiality. And regarding Dr's always doing the right thing...Dr Bruce Reid....

    it seems to me like certain clubs are hung out to dry when any issue from the medical department happens and others are protected. All medical teams need to have the equipment to make informed decisions rather than educated assumptions...and need to protect the players from themselves.

    To play devil's advocate. The medical team is coming under a lot of heat, but because of the nature of Petrcca's injuries in that they were ones where the symptoms can be masked by adrenaline and precipitate over time, it is unlikely the doctors knew the full extent of the injuries until they did. So that's why we need to take it out of the players hands because no doubt he would have said "no i'm okay, i'll push through" (like a lot more injuries than the public is privy to) and the only way you can take it out of their hands is to be able to X ray or ultrasound at the game.

Melbourne medical staff not caring for their player welfare , concerned about winning only and trying to prove that they are tough after they were questioned following the game against Fremantle
