Nobody from a victorian club was complaining about father son rules for the past 20 years. but AS SOON as a queensland side wins a flag SUDDENLY the system needs to change. rightly get stuffed. the father/son rule primarily bennefitted clubs with long history (like saint kilda funny enough), nobody was complaining when the pies won with daicos in his second year.

Well you guys clearly don't follow AFL media. It's been am issue for a while and got louder when Collingwood won the flag with the Daicos boys and Darcy.
It's a good rule to let a club have first dibs, but just make them pay a fair price on terms of draft capital because it's a joke. That's why it's changing next year. Brisbane are just lucky to win the flag and get a kid before it changes.

Now that they have the academy picks to actually keep players and have build football from the ground up in QLD people are complaining lmao Whats the point in them growing football up there if they get nothing for it? • @brujonpatrick4779
      @brujonpatrick4779 Месяц назад

Yes the draft system is one sided: I hope Levi goes straight to the Lions, however look back at the #1 picks that go interstate and want out after 2 yrs. Lynch, suns to tigers, Horne Francis, Nth to PA. Many others that want to go home or get an easy premiership. #1 PICKS MUST STAY FOR AT LEAST 3 YEARS or stand down. The AFL have continually used interstate teams as a feeder for Victorian clubs. AFL dislike interstate clubs, love the money they pay for the franchises, licences or whatever the AFL calls it.

"Riewoldt played junior and early senior football at Broadbeach before switching to Southport, where he played a big part in the club’s historic fourth consecutive QAFL premiership in 2000.
But the problem for the Lions was that he lived about 75km from Brisbane. And when the proposed extension of the club’s 50km recruiting zone to a 100km recruiting zone was abolished it put him outside the catchment area. "

Victorians have complained about father sons since Geelong exploited the system 20 years ago.
Double edged sword though, Collingwood was essentially forced to select high profile offspring such as the Brown brothers and Will Kelly and they were list cloggers for several years. Josh Daicos also looked like a bust for a while and he was selected with a pick in the 60s because there was no interest from other clubs.

    Crows 2024 trades
IMO we need 2 x first rounds picks in a draft that is more even than drafts have been in the last 5-8 years
    - pick 4 to Freo for pick 10 and 17 (Sid Draper does not want to go to the Crows which is where he would have gone at this pick)
    - pick 10 - the best midfielder that is still available at this pick as there are 10-12 great choice midfielders in the top 15-20
    - pick 17 and 42 to Richmond for pick 21 and 29
    - pick 21- Matt Whitlock - Key Forward / Defender
    - pick 25 - Alex Dodson - Ruck
    - pick 29 - Alex Neal-Bullen
    - pick 60 - the best local SA talent still available or pass
And to put a spanner in the works - I would offer GCS the Crows 2025 1st round pick for Jack Lukosius...sure he has selected Port but I doubt they have the picks to get the deal done, so why not see how strong his desire to move to SA actually is.

The AFL is not a level playing field, that is a FACT! There are numerous areas where one team or another is advantaged or disadvantaged. The end out come is some teams are regularly more successful than others. And yes, some clubs are run better than others, and that also affects onfield success. The draft and other initiatives are fine, but really the ONLY way of evening up the competition, is for the less successful club to be allowed a higher Salary cap, both on field and off. A transparent model that benefits to lower clubs each year, and less salary cap to the higher placed clubs. With this system, leading clubs would be forced to trade, and lower clubs could "buy" the players its needs. It should and would be impossible for a Premiership team to repeat their success, because they would have the lowest salary cap. Now it doesn't have to be huge difference, but at least 10% which would mean probably 1 A grader, or 2 B Graders.
The Goal the AFL should be aiming for is each and every club wins a premiership every 20 years or so. That would be a healthy competition. Currently, successful clubs, stay successful, and attract the best players, coaches, staff. Less successful clubs, can draft, but then lose the player a few years later. Horne Francis is the classic example. Gold Coast have had enough stars but they all left for successful clubs. Salary Cap Money is the answer to levelling up the competion, not draft picks or $handouts because the AFL makes your team play Sunday twighlight games. Its a simple fix and would work, thats why the big fish clubs won't allow it.

So St Kilda will have access to the sons of other clubs champions...to ruin and cast aside after their bad system turns them to shit. Yeah, how about you fix your own club's culture both on and off the field so that the children of champions want to come and play for you?

  • @dejeynes

Bidding system 100% needs to be fairer for F/S, NGAs and Northern Academies. With that said, Northern Academies should not be lumped into the same category as the other two.
GCS, Lions, Swans and Giants have been absolute feeder clubs for the traditional state teams for years and years. The Northern Academies helps to equalize the system, given these clubs constantly hemorrhage players that want to “go home” without getting any “go home” players themselves.
What purpose does F/S play other than romanticism? NGAs were only brought in because other clubs were whinging about the NAs - and now they get first dibs on highly rated players without putting in any meaningful development. Guys like Mac Andrew, JUH, Quaynor etc were already playing footy and were only eligible because of their nationality and they fell into a certain zone. NGAs in particular are an absolute rort and serves no real purpose to draftee development. The fact the AFL re-invoked the old NGA bidding rules is a complete slap in the face to the draft.

11:20 Harsh. I'll be the first to say these young men are paid way too much on top of the elite 24/7 health and fitness support the rest of us could only dream of and so many of us just simply go without, but the anger and bitterness with which you attack Oliver, particularly around his weight and sense of belonging - no doubt psychosocial for him and something no multimillion-dollar contract, as sickening as that is to me, can resolve in a highly prioritised team environment - is shameful. Fine, talk about fitness and performance, but please desist, at least for the sake of the many young, impressionable and vulnerable people watching, from attacking a person's weight or a person's psychological wellbeing. Enough is enough.
