Great Video !!! I have that very set of Telefunken. I operated it twenty years ago and it was working fine. The only problem it had was, that the record player was located on to of it and if the lid of the record player fell down - by accident of course - there would be an UNELIMINATABLE hum ( 60 HZ ?? ) Sometimes that could be eliminated by switching the radio on and of but not always. I hate to get rid of it, but my wife says "It does NOT fit the rest of the decor of the house". You got me worried now, that if I turn the radio on it might blow up. I have the schematic of the set, and noticed that the capacitors in the power circuit are three in one can. Tried to get them in Germany, but so far no result. Keep it up !!

The 60Hz sounds like a ground wire to your record player is broken or has a bad connection. That's worth checking out with an Ohm meter.
Yes, forget the 3-section capacitor -- it's not needed, you can't find them, and if you can, they are at least $40. The separate capacitors are about $1-2 each. Please REMOVE the original 3-section cap from the circuit (it can stay in the chassis for display, though); I'm working on a Grundig radio now and had a persistent random crackle that was quite loud. I bypassed that antique 2-section cap with new capacitors (leaving the old one in the circuit) and the crackle was still there. Then I disconnected the 2-stage cap and relied only on my new caps and the crackle noise completely disappeared! I'm working on that video next, but have a few things to clean up on the radio first.
I can't help you with the decor problem, though!

I have this exact radio. It works puts out sound very clean and in great condition but it's a little finicky. One channel has a hiss/ static in the background and the fm seems to take a while to come in. Otherwise it sounds pretty good. Thinking about selling it as I have way too much.

Ken, Great to hear from you. I'm not sure what to say about the noise and slow turn on issues, but glad you hear you have one as well in great condition.

Wonderful video. Do you have a listing of the different capacitors and parts like the bridge rectifier that you used for this project? Was hoping to not make any mistakes in ordering components. I have the exact system, Radio works but the sound is starting to pulse as the volume goes up.

JoyeMusic i have a question. My mother has inherited my uncle's 1965 Telefunken Opus Studio 5650 MX receiver, speakers, reel-to-reel, turn table and 2 microphones. She has no idea of the value, would you hazard a guess? My uncle was a non-smoker and the setup works and is in excellent condition, he just had it serviced in 2016.

Well, I would hazard a guess of $1k, although with all those extras and the fast that it was services and works, it could potentially fetch more, but probably not more than $1500. I know the real value is in the full-blown consoles.

What would be the price if I needed this service done on my unit? Ballpark. I would love to get the old gal going, any help would be appreciated
    Thanks?

Sounds great. The biggest killer is the Reel players. They require SO much maintenance to get them working, and even then, it's another 2x the work to make them sound good. So if you just want the radio and record player working, I'd guess about $300-$1000 for a skilled side-buisiness hobbyist like me, depending how many tubes are bad and what condition the other parts are in. A servicing company would probably cost a lot more. Getting the Reel player working in addition could be double that. Hopefully there's someone near where you live, because those beasts are hard to transport, or someone has to come out to you for the repairs (and bring all the possible components with them).

@@JoyeMusiccom it’s a bit out of my budget, thanks man, I might want to take a crack at it, currently im keeping my wife at bay where she is chomping at the bit to turn this into a bar, any idea where could I find the capacitors and tubes?

@@tave9011 I like vacuumtubes.net/ for tubes, and I get capacitors at places like Electronics Goldmine, or other discount places. Digikey, Mouser, etc are fine if you need something specific, but they do cost a lot. No need to buy tubes unless they are bad, though. Capacitors almost certainly need replacement, particularly the main power supply ones. I have seen a few cases where signal capacitors (paper ones, for example) have gone bad and shorted out a preamp stage.
