I have been searching around trying to figure out how to put some seats I have out of an X-5 in a street rod. This is best solution I have found Awesome job on the car too. I would love to see it done.
I put the same seats in my 68 el Camino. Went the more complicated route and hooked up a square wave generator to the CAN Bus High line. Keeps them awake and works great. I like your simple solution as well.
Hey man, would you please help me out? I bought a BMW electric seat. I already asked a car electrician. He couldn’t help me. But he provided the circuit diagram for the passenger seat. I have two thick wires (One red/brown the other brown), then three thin wires (green/orange, green and red) I saw a guy how solved the issue with a cheap pulse generator (Part NE555). Is this what you did? How would I need to connect the module? I know from the wiring diagram that the green/orange is CAN High. But how am I supposed to connect it? I WOULD OWE YOU SOMETHING!
Man, I can't even get my 3 Series seats to move. 12v to power and ground to ground, no luck. Just 2 reds, 1 large and 1 striped, 2 browns. Got me stumped! I like your fix if I can ever get that far.
Just about to pull the trigger to buy a set of these BMW seats. Now that I see them in your Camaro, and knowing they will fit in my 83 Toyota Pickup 4 by 4
I am putting the seats out of a wrecked 2005 Mercedes-Benz into my 66 Chevelle I only have the wires going to the motors, I only want them to go up and down and the the seat to lay back and come back up of course. But I can only get the motors to hum, they want turn the gear at all, any body got a idea what is wrong and how I can fix this.
Thanks for the explanation. Did you reinforce the seat on the floorpan? I am concerned that in an accident the seat would tear out of the stock seat platform?
I was thinking of bypassing the control module completely and using a bank of relays to control the motors. Is that ill advised? Seems like an unnecessary headache to make that switch so you can temporarily turn the module on the make any adjustments you might need
i have added bmw seats to my cutlass. I have an auxillary fuse box hooked direct to the battery powered by a relay.Shouldn't the relay when off act like a power button and reset the can-bus. It does not- you think adding the power button would make a difference?
How about the heating ? I'm planning to fit the same E93 convertible seats into an old Land rover defender 300 TDI and I would love to keed pe heating option
For me that isn't even a consideration. But I would think you would need to send signal to the module for that. Or trace the wiring diagram and figure out the elements and if there are sensors for high temp and design your own module.
Hi Toby, I've got a 1971 VW Bus and bought a couple of E90 seats and have been looking for wiring diagrams for the heat. do you know where to find them? thanks
@@ACPro thanks for getting back to me. Since my bus is in the shop I decided to make sure the basic stuff is working. Several months ago I connected the seats to a battery and got the in and out, the up and down, and the recliner to work on both seats. Today on the passenger seat I couldn’t get the in and out to work. And nothing on the driver’s seat! GRRRR! Does anyone have any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong? I’m a kinda old guy (74) and I frustrate easily!! LOL! Thanks in advance
@@ACPro Hi again, I hooked up the wires to each seat and got the seats to go up and down and lean forward and backwards, but not in and out. I can hear a clicking sound from the in/out motors and I can feel them trying to turn, but they don’t turn. I’ve applied WD-40 down the rails and let them soak a bit but still nothing. Have you heard of this kind of problem? There’s only one motor that I can see that moves the seats in and out. Thanks Toby!
Ive tried this method hooking them up to a high amp button and the only thing that works is the air cushions. If i hook the positive and negative through a relay they work for the first touch and then they the can bus shuts them off. Pressing the button does not reset the system like yours does. Any suggestions please i need help😢. Also do you have an email or possible easier way to get ahold of you. It looks like you know your stuff and I'm having a hell of a time not only this but my aces efi kit not cranking. Everything turns on the module but no crank. 🙏
Im going thru same thing with a set of f30 seats from a 13' bmw 335i. Im wondering if my holley dominator can send the recquired signal needed to satisfy the seat module in lieu of the bcm?!?!
@@ACPro right on. Im a 65' chevelle SS with a gen 4 big cube stroker motor. The Holley Dominator is a very capable ecu. I dunno what the requirements are, but im going to look into it knowing that lil button is a fine fallback option. Maybe its a pwm signal, I dunno yet.
Really good job on the seats and the console. I myself am doing a 1968 Chevelle convertible. I have a question though. I have some BMW seats out of a 650i that are similar but I believe a little more complicated than yours. What model are your seats out of? I'm having a nightmare with that canbus because it even has more accessories that I don't really need. Also what car did that console come out of . I myself have a 2013 SS Camaro one that I'm using myself. Thanks
This console is out of a ct6 cadillac. There is a guy on ebay has them new . The side trim is alittle hard to find. You just have to go junk yards and hunt. And I forgot to bmw series they out of. It was a newer convertible. Maybe 2016
It will power down after you finish moving the seat . That is what the switch is for . Move the seat then turn off the switch. When you want to move the seat again just power on the switch and move it. Without the bus connected the module will go to sleep if not controls are used.
I'm not good on bmw models. I actually already forgot. But the important part is they are from convertible. They have seatbelts built in. That is what I was after for the shoulder belt
I am if I power the wrong wires. But if your only powering the module and don't send power to the small airbag wires how can it trigger it? Besides what good is a power seat if you don't power it?

I've got them going in a 1969 Firebird. This is probably the simplest solution that I have seen for this issue.

Maybe you need to tri k the can wires to get module to power up

Check voltage of the motors . They could be low voltages.
Thanks for the explanation. Did you reinforce the seat on the floorpan? I am concerned that in an accident the seat would tear out of the stock seat platform?
I guess if the accident is bad enough it could . But I'm not concerned. I was raised in family where we didn't wear seat belts anyway.
I was thinking of bypassing the control module completely and using a bank of relays to control the motors. Is that ill advised? Seems like an unnecessary headache to make that switch so you can temporarily turn the module on the make any adjustments you might need
You can try it. Will take alot time digging through the wires .

One way to find out. Just disconnect the power wire and try it manually like a switch first

Would these be hooked up to assesory or straight power?
Straight power.
@@ACPro I tried hooking a red wire straight from my battery to the red power wire on the seats and I'm not getting power. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks I'm going to do this in my application.
Great!
Hi Toby, I've got a 1971 VW Bus and bought a couple of E90 seats and have been looking for wiring diagrams for the heat. do you know where to find them?
thanks
I do not know . Heat will be tricky. With some testing I am sure you can find the elements but I don't know if it is cycling or a built in temp sensor

Actually pressing the button kills power and resets the module. Make sure you are removing all power for at least 1 minute repowering
How is your head room and did y ou make any adjustments? I am doing my initial fit today and my head is looking to be going up into the headliner.
Actually I have really good headroom. But I did not use the factory bows for headliner. I put in a glue in headliner

I thought same thing as I installed a genv lt1 but I was not willing to chance it on my ecm.

installing the seats this way (switched power on/off) will the memory function work?
Memory will not work
Did you connect the can bis high and low? I ran the switch like you, but the module still powers down. Works great at first, but then nothing.
I did not

@@ACPro thank you! Works great!!!
Did you make your own seat rails?
Yes I used angle and welded them level then drilled holes for seats
What year and from what model BMW seats are these and what other seats have you had success with in a 69 Camaro? Thank you!
I'm not good on bmw models. I actually already forgot. But the important part is they are from convertible. They have seatbelts built in. That is what I was after for the shoulder belt
I have seats out of a 2020 m340i. I never got the harness that plugs into the seat so no plug. What did you guys do to power the seat?
Look for red and brown wire. Maybe different on yours but should be the largest wires. Don't power the wrong ones you can pop a air bag out.
Thank you.
Are those memory seats? Will this switch work to kill the memory so the seats will work with just the adjustment buttons?
They only work with switches. It will not hold any type of memory
you’re a damn genius.
🤣
Aren’t you worried about triggering airbags in seat?
I am if I power the wrong wires. But if your only powering the module and don't send power to the small airbag wires how can it trigger it? Besides what good is a power seat if you don't power it?
