People need to realise just how in-trend, especially on Instagram and Pinterest, wigs actually are. On celebs too, people seem to assume "Oh, Celeb A was a red head with hair down to their ass last week, now it's a platinum bob. I can do that too!" No, lol, they're wigs.

She's telling the truth. I went from brunette to grey without having all my hair fall out; and it was about a years process. Not to mention each session I went costed about $300, and I had to go every month and a half to 2 months. So you have to pay to get your hair to grey, and then you have to pay to maintain the grey. Yes the colour was beautiful, but you really need to make the commitment to make it last. I would have to shower in cold water only, purple shampoo bottles after purple shampoo bottles, avoid the sun, and avoid chlorine. So if you are thinking about going grey.... well good luck! :)

I'd like to also just drop this off here: I have hair long enough to sit on. I also have an abnormal amount of hair, which is also curly. It's INCREDIBLY dense (ponytail has about 5 inches in circumference), and I have natural gray that I've had since childhood. My baseline natural color is about a level 3, but I also have a lot of silvery gray. My hair looks fake half the time. Just because someone's hair looks fake doesn't mean it actually is. I can't tell you how many people have walked up and tugged on my hair to see if it's extensions or told me that the amount of color I have in my hair is super damaging and that I won't be able to maintain it for long at my length (and if it WAS fake, they would've just snatched my weave! wtf?). It's hilarious because my hair's virgin and past Classic length. My hair is abnormal and I'm fully aware just how abnormal it is.
When I worked behind the chair, I had a ton of fellow stylists want to use my hair for fantasy styles because it'll do a lot of them with very little assistance or coaxing once it's been through a roller set if it needs to be wavy or straighter than it is naturally - and they'd get annoyed because I don't allow heat in my hair, so I'd have to tell them unless they wanted to do a roller set on 38 inch long hair and wait for it to dry, and agree not to tease/back comb it - it's super fine and breaks easily - or use certain products, then the answer was no. It only actually happened once, and she swore never to do it again, but at least she understood why I pretty much go wash and wear and stick with my natural curl pattern. Why don't I use heat on my own hair when I'll use it on my clients? My goals and hair are different from theirs are for their hair. My goal is length and maintenance of my virgin color and to have it there with as little damage as possible. Their priorities are typically vastly different from mine, so the path to get there will obviously be different. If they want to have shoulder length bleached hair, I'm happy to do it, but they're probably not going to get to my length AND have it bleached 6+ levels, AND use heat on it all the time for texture, etc. You have to prioritize, and a lot of clients just aren't good at that. They want EVERYTHING, and they want it now, and they tend to want to balk at the price.
But this also comes with a downside. I get intense migraines that aren't helped by the weight of my hair, and my neck hurts a lot whenever I wash it. It's also really annoying for people to assume that their hair is like mine, and that by some miracle I can give them hair they'll never have. If you have thin hair, you're just not going to have my volume without a ton of work. It's just not going to happen. Different people also just simply can't grow their hair as long as others can, and naturally I tended to attract people who wanted hair like mine when it's not physically possible. It's actually part of why I left the salon. People expecting miracles at rock bottom prices, I just can't.

omg my family owns a few hair salons and you would be shocked at how many people come in every single day with pictures of celebrities (with wigs on - not even their real hair) expecting to magically make their hair 600x thicker and longer. plus many asian women who bleached their hair orange at home, hated it, dyed it back to jet black and come into our salon a day later wanting to go grey/white in an hour, no cut and for cheap. then will be angry at us if we simply can't do it! l m f a o. then there are people who pay $200 for spectacular hair and go home to use pantene 😭 you wouldn't fill your bugatti with regular degular gas would you?! also best of alllll people who get their hair dyed, come in six months later and say all the color faded at their roots! like... they get mad at us cause their hair grows and we can't make their hair grow blonde!

another side of this though, i've seen a few stylists who don't really know how to get you to a certain hair color, so they start making excuses. They try to make you love what they created even though it isn't what you asked for exactly. They try to say your hair didn't lift well or whatever, even though my hair for instance lifts very easily. It actually very hard to find a truly talented hair artist.

keepinitreal I went to a stylist who did this OVER & over when I was younger. Like even size of highlights (thin or chunky) I do have really dark hair but i would bring in pics of inspiration and she’d basically just do whatever she wanted I swear! It was mind blowing. But would always say it was bc of my hair etc etc and until I learned about coloring and had friends learn I finally realized she was full of shit. I always think back about how ballsy she was to do whatever and charge me what she charged! Hope you end up finding someone well qualified! It’s a game changer!!! ♥️

1 year ago I wanted silver hair and I went to my very expensive hairdresser and she said she can make it, but I have to come back 2-3 times to achieve this color. In the first time she dyed my hair a pretty light blonde(from greyish brown), then I went back a month later and she made my hair darker.... and in the end she was like "look, its the color you wanted :) " and it was golden blonde not silver and I paid a lot of money (half of my monthly salary) and she made my hair even darker...Then i switched hairdresser and he said that i have to use purple shampoo to achieve silver hair etc. and I finally had silver hair (I went back to blonde because my hair became dry and I rather have healthy hair) and he was a much cheaper hairdresser without a popular instagram account. Lesson learned.Instagram famous hairdressers are not always better than a cheap hairdresser with a lame salon.

A little over two years, I made the decision to finally get blue hair. I researched and researched and found a salon to go to. After a consultation, I did not leave her chair for 8.5 hours. My hair was down to my hips and brown. She got me from that to blue in a day. It cost me a LOT of money, but it was hella worth it. I've been blue for over two years now and get my roots done every 3-4 months because I know how to take care of it. So yes, there are a lot of unrealistic expectations, but if you find the right stylist you're going to have much better luck.

First and foremost, I would just like to thank you for this enlightening video. This was really a slap to my face and also a wake-up call.
Since the trend started, I wanted to have a grey or silver hair. (I have black hair) My hairstylist said that coloring my hair in that shade would kill my hair and scalp, and that it takes a lot of time, money and commitment. She also advised me to think about it carefully. Truthfully, I was annoyed when she told me that because at that time I was so engrossed into having that kind of hair. Your video made me realize that I should really listen to what my hairstylist says. What I want may not be good for my hair. And also that I should not be so naive when it comes to trends.
    Thank you so much.

If I were you I would just invest in wigs then you can change it whenever you like. I know the struggle my hair is naturally black as well and the lightest we could lighten it to was my current golden blonde, and that took bleaching it twice. I'm not going any lighter because I don't want to risk the damage it's still relatively healthy. I also decided to do balayage instead of all over because up-keeping my natural black roots is too much money/time for me.

Daenery's hair is a wig. That's why it's so platinum and perfect and long. It's almost impossible to achieve her look, you can get your hair that blonde but it will probably be very damaged. I have naturally dark blonde hair and I couldn't get my hair that blonde without frying it. Of course, I had dyed it a chocolate brown and had it bleached several times to get it to platinum. I had unrealistic expectations of how much my hair could take. Once I got it as blonde as I could I had a keratin treatment to hide the damage. That's when my hair started to look terrible, like dry dead straw. I ended up cutting it to a pixie.
Now if I want some crazy unicorn hair, I just get a wig!

    • @kenetrice
      @kenetrice 6 лет назад +118

+Alyssa Gardner It doesn't matter. You don't just cut someone's hair to whatever length you think is best simply because you see split ends. The professional thing to do would be to inform the client that cutting only a few centimeters off will not get all of the dead ends and ask them is it okay if they take another inch or two off. It definitely isn't okay to go ahead and do it without permission. Imagine if you went to a plastic surgeon and told them that you wanted to get a C cup in breast implants and they just went ahead and gave you a DD because they think it will fit your body better? It is their job to do what the client wants and while they can advise the client on what they think is best, it's not okay to go ahead and do whatever they want to you or your hair.

Something I had to learn is that pastel colours are total bs. They look amazing, but I've had pastels washing out within a week and the upkeep ist just too time consuming and expensive for me when I'm doing myself, let alone doing pastels in the salon. So if I want to go pastel I always go a few shades darker and it'll wash out to the colour I want.

I went platinum blond a few years ago, and it took my hair stylist about two years to get it there from the brunette color I had. It took a lot of money and sooo much upkeep. Every 4 weeks I went in to get the roots done. There's no way I'd try it at home!

I tried dying my hair gray, I wish I listened to these videos and the stylist. They had to dye my hair 3 times in a week and when they finished it only lasted a week, and a half and my ends were fried, the worst time for my hair. I learned my lesson, I now want just what is best for myself and for my hair, not what's trendy. Trendy doesn't always equal healthy. I wish I had a brother like yours or any of my siblings had hair knowledge.

    • @daashazireael6613

Sloan Mckelvy did the stylist dye or bleach the hair three times in one week? Because bleaching it back to back like that in such a short amount of time with no conditioning treatments will ruin your hair.
When I had gray, i had to bleach three times to get it as light as it needed to be And i waited 3 to 4 weeks in between each bleaching and would deep condition and pur hair masks and hot oil treatments in between. That kept my hair very healthy. But it foe sure takes time and at some in between sessions your hair won't look its best but its beautiful if done right.
You have to wash it very seldom and use a toning shampoo and also a shampoo without sulfate and paraben to keep it lasting longer. But i did have to re tone to grey or lavender about every 2 to 3 weeks.

Da Asha Zireael She bleached it 3 times and then put a dark gray color in my hair. Yes, my hair was fried after all of that so after about less than a month I cut my hair short. This was nearly a year ago, and my hair is almost back to the length it once was. Not gonna lie I got 2 big bottles of toning shampoo and conditioner that's mainly collecting dust that I plan on giving away when the chance comes. I now follow a routine to show my hair some love which I should have done in the first place.

Yes! It would be great if you could get into hair types :) I have fine, semi-permanednt dyed hair which (from what I have read) sucks up panthenol like a sponge. The effect, anyway, is that the texture turns into something like straw while shampooing. It's temporary until I condition, but more info/recommendations would be wonderful :)

This video is old, but was just suggested to me. I WISH my hair stylist would have sat me down and said “bruh, if we do this it will destroy your hair. “But, she didn’t. Instead she put 40
Volume on my head and stuck me under the dryer. Then when I went home and realized my hair was fried and noodley- I texted her and she was like “what did you expect trying to go from (dyed) black to platinum in one session?” I was like what?!?!?!?!?! She told me she could do it with olaplex and my hair can take it. She never once even hinted it might be a problem. I spent $400 on a color correction at another salon and slowly grew my hair out. Never again.

I know if I dye my hair (wavy 2A, dark brown, frizzy and fragile) it literally just kills it. No matter what color but anything lighter especially. I was never told by any stylist I've ever had that my hair couldn't handle the bleach or dye. But my current stylist could tell I wasn't giving up on the ombré trend so she suggested just dipping my toes in and going a slight color lighter first and then doing more sessions to get the full effect after I saw how I liked it. Initially I was pissed because it didn't look like the pictures but now I'm more than thankful. I've finally grown out most of the damage and gotten my hair back to normal. Never again!! But it taught me a super valuable lesson that my hair type just can't handle that stuff. So I'm glad you're making these, hopefully people that don't know what they're going into (like me) can learn what's up with their hair lol I know if it wasn't for RUclips, I wouldn't know a thing about what to do with my hair or how to properly take care of it. So thanks to you and all other hair stylist/gurus that teach us 👏🏼👏🏼

    Unrealistic expectations:
I walk in to school with semi permanent dip dyed red hair which has faded considerably - to now a reddish brown (my natural hair is light brownish).
School: 'You can't have that, it is way to red and noticeable! Wash it out this evening!
Me: ....dude wtf u can't wash out red dye in one EVENING even if I used fucking dish detergent.
School: Go into isolation then. (Basically school jail, a white cubicle where you do written work the whole day)
Me: no fuck this shit I'm going home.

Okay let me tell my unrealistic hair-story. I'm a 'neutral' type, warm and cool shades suit me, BUT i have level 2-3 hair (1 black, 10 liiiiiight blonde). I have been in love with the person you named in this Video, Daenerys Targaryen. I bleached my hair with box-bleach at home. My hair was blorange and I needed to get a color correction. I went to a salon, i payed a hell lot of money for the treatment overall and I also payed for olaplex.
I loved my color, i was actually an even silvery blond, it was legit sorcery. idk if my stylist sacrificed their first born, BUT my hair was BOMB. After 4 months of feeling like my own special daenerys, my hair BROKE and it was all MY fault (for frying it in the first place). I should have done it (if even) at a professional place in the first place.. you don't walk into the drug store with natural black-ish hair and buy box dye that looks like your favored end result. i learned my lesson the hard way and i learned that i'll most likely never have this hair color without sacrificing my hairs health. fast forward to now (2 years later) my hair is long and dark AND healthy and i couldnt be happier.

I had pink/purple/red highlights, then I went blue/green/magenta and the green color didn't show...so when it all faded I was yellow-ish blond (these colors have bleaching efect in them), so I just needed my hairdresser to tone my hair down, so now I have my natural color (ashy brown/blond) and blonde (cold toned) with almost silver highlights. It looks awesome. it's better going to a professional to get done your hair than box dye at home.

I'm really happy to have found this video. I was a hairstylist until recently and part of the many reasons why I quit was due to client's unrealistic expectations. I'm the "artiste" kind of hairstylist and I take a lot of pride in my work, but sadly, people don't seem to value what hairstylists do these days. It was very discouraging to me and now I'm exploring other careers because I want to do good, meaningful work that people actually care about and appreciate. I hated it when I'd be going over prices and someone would wrinkle their nose when I told them how much their service would cost. I don't get upset and throw attitude at the guy who washes my car because it isn't free, I happily pay and tip them for a job well done because thats what it costs and I appreciate what they do. Anyway, keep up the good work! I just subscribed and I can't wait to watch more of your videos! Even though I'm not doing hair anymore, I still love it and I love the cosmo community!

Just came upon your channel and loved your reaction to hair hacks video & had to subscribe! My natural hair is VERY dark brown & my journey to platinum was a LONG one because I took my colorists advice to lighten my hair in stages so I wouldn't go bald! And now thanks to the power of Olaplex, Brazilian bond builder, going to a PROFESSIONAL & taking a lot of care of my hair at home, etc. I am a platinum blonde. Now I can just go and get my roots done (like I did today) when I need to. I LISTENED to my colorist and had REALISTIC goals and expectations for time frames etc. I also did my part to take care of my hair in between color. Nothing that can be done for cheap is going to come out well - something a lot of consumers don't understand. I would much rather pay for results I will be happy with than cheap out and end up bald. Sorry for this rant but just wanted to let u know that as an average client, I actually do understand and empathize with stylists. You guys put in so much work and you are appreciated! I also appreciate that my stylist is always honest and talks about every option and step with me. I definitely give her a higher tip than what my service may call for because she is honest with me. Loved the video ! Been a hairdresser for 25 years and have seen the unrealistic expectations many times !I am amazed by some of the DIY videos where the person talks all about how brutal they have been to their own hair with multiple box colors , bleaching ect. but then blame the professional for not being able to wave a magic wand and fix it ! It is true that some stylists do try to do things that are beyond their skills level but I truly feel that 99 % of the time , when clients are unhappy it is because they have not been honest with the stylist or do not follow through with proper haircare after the service !

You need to moisturize a lot! Leave in conditioner after shower+oil+soothing curl products and then oil your hair at least 1-3 times a day until you wash. Curly hair lets moisture out naturally plus your environment can affect it too pulling out moisture or putting it back in, so adding oil to your hair can smooth it either way. But get a good salon brand oil, store brands are not ideal.

re-wet it, use gel or oil then use a diffuser to dry. also if you don't use any product at all and then sleep on it, it will turn frizzy!!! experiment with products. any professional salon should have a return policy.. even if you try it a few times and don't like it, you should still be able to get a refund, or at least store credit. keep exchanging products until you find out that you like. find a good stylist and they will teach you how to keep it looking nice!

Raffledramento get a satin pillow case and put your hair into a pineapple ( basically a high ponytail on top of your head) make sure you don't wash your hair everyday and use some oil to keep your edges from breaking. My curly haired cousin puts her hair in protective braids before bed. That helps too. Also use a wide toothed comb and don't brush . It causes curls to separate and get frizzy.

Very good point when you addressed the professionals, telling them the general public don’t know. There is nothing worse than going into a salon and have them talk down or almost smirk because you don’t know.. imagine going to a doctors appointment and have them act the same because you don’t know what they do. I believe this is what puts people off going into salons

I went from level 4 brown to white in 2 hours. I had healthy virgin hair and a healthy scalp so my hairdresser could put a shitload of 40 vol bleach in it without having to worry about my hair breaking. Unless your hair is already damaged or (box) dyed several times going from a darker brown to white is certainly not impossible IF your hairdresser knows what they're doing.

this makes me think of many beauty and cosmetics related things. people are always looking at photos online of people with daenerys hair (a WIG, for god's sake) and airbrushed skin in good lighting, believing that it's going to be easy/inexpensive to achieve and maintain such things because of what other people put out there, whether it's stylists, MUAs, influencers or simply reviewers. not that it's those people that are to blame, but it's important to be reminded that some nice things are 1. going to be costly, 2. not going to be as easily achieved as other people because of many differing factors, or 3. not even real. the message in this video really reinforced those things and i'm glad you're putting it out there!

See how they talk to you as a person, do they only see money or do they see a real person to connect with? (I am a hair stylist) See if they show you a few products and price check, they might have a few that will work for you but suggest the most expensive. A person who sees you as a person will be a good stylist to you. One who only sees you as money in their pocket could even do services you don't need or get you into a routine to be there more often.

I used to have white blonde hair, I went to a specialist to get it done and I started with dark blonde hair. It took two sessions each 125 dollars with a month in between, 6 months into having this hair colour the specialist left the bleach on for to long and broke so much hair, I had to cut off 18 inches and it still didn't match. My hair was 28 inches, I took the time, and the money and it still got damaged, just be careful and listen to your stylist!

I went from a level 4 brown to a level 12 blonde (toned to silver/white) in 2 hours using a 40 vol. developer and my hair is still perfectly healthy. My girlfriend went from a dyed level 2 almost black to a level 11 blonde (also toned to silver) and it took her about 5 months. Her hair was already heat damaged a bit so she had to cut about 2,5 inches off but the overall health of her hair still is pretty good according to her hairdresser. Grey/silver/white hair isn't unrealistic but people's expectations are.

You are totally right about basic haircare knowledge. My mom uses only the cheapest shampoo since i remember. No conditioner. I have wavy hair and they look awful when i brush them. I didn't know what to do with them so i started straightening them. Only shampoo and straightening for 5 years. It totally damaged my hair and i was so blind because no one never told me anything. Haircare is so overhelming for people like me. I started taking care of my hair 9 months ago and i still know little but i am trying. You should keep doing videos because there is a lot of people like me.

Malleore I've wavy hair too. Brushes are evil and make wavy hair puff! Use a wide toothed comb for detangling and don't rub your hair dry. Pat it dry with a towel with a scrunching type motion and use a lightweight mousse to style. It's very important to use moisturizing shampoo and conditioner even if it costs just a bit more . I grew up with my mom buying the cheap stuff to and she'd brush it and blow dry it wrong. I always had frizzy horrible hair until I learned how to dry nozzel down with a wide toothed comb and got the right hair care I needed for my hair type. Try naturallycurly.com for more great tips for gorgeous waves!

    • @mklnelson77
      @mklnelson77 7 лет назад +1

I read this with my mouth hanging open... you have waves so stick to moisture shampoos....brush it before you shower and never after...dont rub it dry with a towel, squeeze it dry...find a serum or oil you like (cruelty free products if you can)... most curly hair clients like to use a spray in lotion or conditioner...if you blow dry it use a diffuser.... when you air dry it DONT DISTURB THE CURLS until they are totally dry. fix your hair ASAP out of the shower and dont touch it! I hope any of this helps your hair care, good luck

ayee! I love your videos, it shows from a professional point of view about the struggles you guys go through. I have best friends who are in this industry and they educated me about everything when I became their model for plat blonde/fashion color hair. A lot of clients have this misconception that when they pay for a $300+ color/lightening service that it'll last a long time. What they don't realize is that it takes a lot of maintenance, time and money to maintain the look. My hair is a level 1 and to go from level 1 to a 9/10 takes HOURRRRRS and if not sessions to prevent it from getting damaged any further, a lot of my friends are shocked that it takes 8-9 hours to achieve the color and I have to retouch it every 1-2 months due to regrowth and the color fading out.

I'm not a hair stylist but last summer I was so obsessed with the grey hair look that I asked my hair stylist if I could have silver gray hair. I was blonde at the time but my hair had been bleached three times to get to that platinum look I wanted and it took time and a lot of patience since I'm a brunette. I was so glad that my hair stylist explained me it wasn't possible because at the state of my hair it could have broken it and he wasn't assuming the risk of bleaching me because he cared more about my hair than about my money. I appreciated so much the effort he took into watching my hair, analyzing what he could do and what he didn't want to do.. After that we agreed to came back tu my natural color, and I started taking care of the health of my hair by repairing the damage that the bleach has relatively done to my hair. Now I have natural healthy hair and I think I've learned the lesson with these kind of unrealistic expectations of mine of having all different kinds of hair color I am all day bombarded on Instagram beauty profiles. I honestly prefer to have healthy locks than to ruin them and spend the rest of the time trying to fix possible damage to a hair that could have had the potential to look beautiful just the way it is. So I appreciate so much this video, and I agree with you that we are not aware, and hairstylists need to express their opinions because if they don't do it than who could? Thanks again for reading. :)

I absolutely agree. I've gotten my hair colored twice by a girl I used to work with. I wear high quality wigs to get those fun colors, but I wanted to dye my hair. Natural dark brown on top, cascading into pink. She was upfront with me immediately and told me getting bubble gum pink would take a few sessions because my hair is so dark. So we went for a bright magenta that really flattered my hair color. The color lasted about 4 months and the first session cost $120. I bought a special shampoo to keep the color in, I maintained it with semi-permanent dye to spot treat any chunks of hair that started to fade, etc etc.
I don't have to money to keep going in every couple of weeks to get it to a pastel color, but I'm fine with the color she chose. I trust her because I used to work with her at Starbucks when we were both baristas. I think it's important that you really know your stylist or you really research your stylist. Everyone not only has different natural hair color but also hair texture. A stylist that knows what your hair REALLY looks like, un-styled, will be able to make the best decisions for you.
You also cant just pop into a random salon you haven't researched and expect to get picture perfect hair. If they charge you $20 to get your hair colored and it looks nothing like the photo... well you get what you paid for.
    Do your research.
That goes for hair, skin, nails, facebook, politics, books, movies... do your own research.
Two minute edited video clips on facebook does not equal reality.

uhg YES. I've been a stylist for 7 years. I moved around a lot, so I lost my clientele and had to go work at chain salons. I've had to sit people down for consultations for at least ten minutes and they still want to come in and cry about how their hair turned brassy 3 weeks after a lifting. Its very frustrating. I am astounded at how many people think that spending 100 dollars at a chain will take them from a level 1 to silver ombre in one sitting

This make sense. My stylist was upfront and honest with me, she sat down with me and went through the colour chart and explained it's not worth going light pastel colours since it's so much maintenance and damaging for black hair, she told me darker colours fine because of less bleaching and now I've healthy dark magenta and happy with result.

Personally I love it when a hair stylist explains the process to me. I ruined my hair because I dyed it blue black over and over again as a teen (and yes it was box dye, teenage me didn't make good decisions). It was a long process to get it back to my natural color and healthy again, it took a few months to get my natural color back and all the dead hair cut off without giving me super short hair and took another few months for my hair to look and feel healthy again. My stylist was great and explained it to me and let me know that it would take time, she also clearly explained why box dye was horrible for my hair and that if I did use it to never use that particular color like I had. I really appreciated her taking the time to try and explain why certain things wouldn't work or how other things may damage my hair and what to watch out for when I dye my hair. When I go to the salon I do tend to bring a picture but I make it clear that I know it may not look exactly like the picture. To many people just go in expecting magic and that is kinda unfair in my opinion. Realistic expectations are key to getting a hair color, cut, and style you can be happy with.

I was brunette, went to a few salons asking to go blonde. The salonists told me it can’t be done, bla-bla-bla, I should get highlights instead. So some time passed, reading about hair coloring and bleaching, and said let me do this myself. I did it and my hair is lightest ash white blond, no fall out, and glorious. It took work and attentive care, I did it and it has be done. A lot of salonists don’t take the time to learn and improve his/her field, don’t blame the customer for having “unrealistic” expectations. People are A LOT smarter. Edit: my hair is about 18 inches.

This was a fantastic (and much needed) topic, and organized SO well! Bravo.
I'm 27, and I have no knowledge of anything beyond the most basic management of my hair (shampoo, 2 conditioning treatments, air-drying). I've also had unrealistic expectations going into a salon: years of red box dyes, and hoping to go blonde in a session! Haha, boy was I surprised. I would NEVER mean to be a difficult client, I just didn't have the slightest clue. I think a big part of unrealistic expectations in the area of hair is not only social media/magazines but also the whole fact that dyes &other chemical treatments now come in a box. Of course companies make no effort to educate in the slightest, because like every product, they're pushed as some one-step, one-size-fits-all, time and money saving miracle. It has taken the important science of hair and chemistry out of the equation, and made us laymen think that doesn't matter. Trust me, as someone who used box dyes for years upon years, thank god for professional cosmetologists! 😁😘
I can't imagine what it must be like to deal with clients bringing you impossible expectations and also being @ssholes. Full respect for everyone in service positions/careers! Loving the mission of your channel! You go girl 😛

I was once getting Dutch braids and I showed the stylist a picture of how I wanted the braids exactly to look and of course the girl was mixed and she had more of like a softer, curlier texture a little bit so she had like loose strands or as they call "baby hairs" but she had her braids in a specific position that I wanted mines to exactly be in. So I show the stylist the braids of how I wanted it to be braided on my head and the stylist goes "she's white. You don't have that texture of hair" And I honestly felt so disrespected, but however she still winded up braiding my hair anyway even though it was nothing like how I wanted and I was so disappointed lol

I completely understand this! I have naturally golden blonde hair and I’m able to get it to platinum blonde (I get called Elsa/The mother of dragons about once a day) in 20 minutes with 20 volume but a lot of brunettes don’t understand that it’s very hard to get to platinum in one day without 1) Killing your hair 2) Getting orange/highlighter hair. Also upkeep is very time consuming. If you don’t want roots you need to plan to be able to pay atleast once a month to get them fixed, you need to spend money of deep conditioners and hair trimming every 6-8 weeks, as well as invest in a good purple shampoo. It may look cute on Pinterest but you need to consider how cute your bank account is going to look afterwards.

I agree, it is her job to know those things, not theirs... if I come into a saloon and say 'Hello, how much would it be to have my hair done white?' (I am light brunette) I expect that the hairdresser to tell me the price and the way they want to do it (if they think I should do it in more than one sitting, will I be able to keep it bleached by purple shampoo, how bad the damage will be if there's to be any). But if she scoffs and looks at me condescendingly rolling her eyes and huffs and puffs like this chick moaning 'guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurl that so SOOOO unrealistic!!!!' I'm outta there.

I had my hair white for a while. My natural hair color is black and my hair is pretty strong. I had it done in one setting and it took around five or six hours. I had bought this purple color shampoo because the hairstylist who did my hair suggested that I buy it to keep my hair looking white/grey. My hair looked really pretty the first week after getting my hair done grey/white. After the first week of getting my hair bleached and dyed grey/white it had started to fade into a green color. It looked so nasty! I want to get my hair done that color again, however, I will be more aware about maintenance. Thank you for the video! This video has opened my mind up more to what hair stylists have to go through and the expectations and reality of getting hair done in certain styles. Thank you. 😊
